- The amazing story of Damian Aspinall reuniting with an adult male gorilla named Kwibi whom he hasn't see in over 5 years. Damian raised Kwibi in England and then released him into the wild in Africa when he was 5 years old.

Honestly, I think Kwibi understood that Damian wanted him to be FREE. That type of love will never be forgotten.
Shooting a gorrila is not badass, Badass is getting accepted and get cuddles from the Alpha like a boss.

I’ll just never understand people who trophy hunt. It’s one thing to hunt for food to feed your family but it’s a whole other completely unacceptable kettle of fish to kill animals for the hell of it.
You just need to look into their eyes and you can see how complex, intelligent and emotional these animals truly are. They are not mindless brutes.

This broke my heart.....I understand how important it is to rehabilitate the animals and to release them, but he loves Damian so much and he abandoned him!! I could not imagine having to do this!! Im sure it was equally as hard for him as well!!
I know that must be so heartbreaking. I wonder what kwibi thinks happened. Does he understand why this happened. I could see myself being angry at Damian if I saw him 5 years later because he abandoned me, not embracing him like he did. Idk. Humans suck haha

@@junn679 true animals often remember the greatfulness they received especially if they are not even abused in the first place unlike humans.. who always points out everything and anything.
He didn't abandon him,he set him free to be what he's supposed to be,free.
And not some trinket to be stared at through a cage for what,amusement.
It's worse to be alive and be caged,denied your identity and the world you belong in.
Every animal in captivity knows this,you can see it in their eyes always.
Why I can't go to zoos anymore,because one day I saw and understood what that was.
I totally feel you. I nearly cry when I watch this from the sheer beauty. Gorillas are just so pure and innocent and they are beyond words. I just want them to be happy and healthy.
You clearly see the gorilla smile at first sight. So touching the face on him lights up like he was happy to see his old friend 😢 I come back to see the gorilla smile every now an then.
It made me cry to think how much he missed his friend - how happy he was to see him again - but then, of course he lost him again.

when i saw this i was almost in tears. we dont give animals enough credit. when i found my siamese cat abandoned in my neighbors back ground i adopted him. he lived with me for 3 loving years before i lost my best friend to cancer. needless to say i named him kwibi.

AMAZING ... I don't know how he did not just break down and cry this is so sad but at the same time great . This man loved him so much that he let him go free like it was meant for him to be and after all those years he still LOVED and RESPECTED his " HUMAN DAD" .

Wonderful to see...we were regular visitors to Howletts in the 80/90s and watched with awe (And envy) seeing the aspinall family playing with the young gorillas and the amazing relationship John Aspinall had with the male silver back (Gus I think). Wonderful foundation.
What an amazing encounter Kwibi definitely still remembered Damian and the bond they had before was automatically immediately there.
I DON'T THINK I WOULD BE ABLE TO LEAVE IF I WAS IN HIS SHOES. IF I SAW HIM THEN FOLLOW MY BOAT WHEN I LEFT I WOULD HAVE TO PULL OVER AGAIN TO SAY GOOD BYE AGAIN BECAUSE IT WOULD JUST BREAK MY HEART. SWEET. SO SWEET.
At their parting, I felt such emotion. I had tears for the Gorilla as he was sad to see his friend go. However, their reunion was beautiful.

We could learn so much from animals. He was hurt he felt animosity from being ABANDONED!!!! HELLO PEOPLE!!!! I understand why be had to be let go but if one could have a makeshift home it would help. Tricky “ si won’t elaborate on how tricky and complicated this is. But the LOVE. Just LOVE . This made me cry I love animals and nature so much but gorillas are different from other animals. Wow truly amazing, in a sense. Shows there mental mentality, how the gorilla remembered he's companion. (: sweet! @halcyon0830 zoos hold animals based on the "logic" that seeing them up close will bring awareness of their plight and cause pepple to want to save them and their habitats. its a tough call deciding whether to keep them there or release them all but spread less knowledge and awareness.
