Emmet is so melodic on piano. I think of his solos more on the melody than just chord progressions. He is a dynamic player-always great to hear.

The drummer seems to be in a constant grinning teeth communication with Emmet, totally ignoring the nuances of Rudresh's solo, as hard as it was to play with - Rudresh is not a Jazz player! The bass and trumpet duo at the beginning of the trumpet solo revealed the bass players lack of coherent story telling and a wayward interpretation. The drummer continued to ignore Giveton's solo. From what I can tell, the drummer is just happy to be there. Where's Kyle Poole?

It is very easy to criticize when your behind a screen. You have to remember that these are very real people, playing very real music, and very real mistakes may happen. As for Mahanthappa’s solo I feel that his solo may have a little bit of the wrong interpretation (to my ear), however I would never go near as far as to call him « not a jazz player. » Especially with a tone like that he possesses. Wolfe’s duet playing with Gelin may have lacked the usual drive and forward linear motion the walking bass should of had, however I believed he played very well throughout the rest of the tune, especially during Cohen’s solo! And also Carter was pretty locked in with the drums so I don’t understand the problem there.
