Emmet Cohen - Piano
Bruce Harris - Trumpet
Patrick Bartley - Alto Saxophone
Russell Hall - Bass
Joe Saylor - Drums
Even Patrick’s phrasing is so similar to Cannonball, let alone his sound, his first chorus is something Cannonball would play 100%
my thoughts exactly !
Have a listen to Spontaneous Combustion. So much language from there I hear in his solo 🔥
pat literally transcribed and learned an entire cannonball solo from scratch on a livestream
I love all of these live at Emmet’s place videos, but I must say, these ones with Bruce Harris, Patrick Bartley and Joe Saylor are definitely some of my favourites
But, have you Heard the one Oh and Charlie Parker? OMG. I’m still sitting here shaking my head LOL. Emmit is phenomenal. Where he stores all those different cords in his head it’s so perplexing to me. Love that guy to death.
I agree a also really liked the one with erena terakubo
i think, there is no best one. the jitterbug waltz with evan christopher, ... well, every single recording is simply crazy stuff.
but yes, patrick bartley always gives some little extra.
I've got to agree with you - what band! - Album Please!
I love how Bartley loses himself in the music. His souls transcends the corporeal to the spiritual. Its what Jazz was made for ❤️
It's inspiring.
Bruce Harris is the perfect guy to watch while listening to this music. His joyful, amazed expressions reflect my own. He's a great player too.
Amazing performance! But this drummer, Joe Saylor... what a lyrical drum solo!
Patrick sounds amazing!! His tone is really incredible, his phrases can shift from traditional blues, bebop and ultra modern in a few seconds, always choosing the right sound for it. He demonstrates that sound is a concept and a skill and has little to do with gear
And on top of all of that, he still manages to maintain his own unique sound. Incredible.
he's playing one of the best altos ever made by Yamaha? :)
As far as I know he plays a YAS-62 with the same Meyer for many years. I love his sound!
@@Nestor_Fernandez I thought it was a 61. Same difference, however
@@JS-dt1tn it ain’t the sax
Another masterful display of emulating the masters, Patrick sounds so much like Cannonball here
Definitely. 1:36 is a direct Cannonball quote
@@5h5hz He’s quoting sandu for a hot second. So hip!!!
This performance is a testament that Jazz is alive at a high level. Congrats to all, the alto sax and piano improvisations were really inspired, I like the energy employed by Emmet here.
I love Patrick's solo and his T-shirt printed こわい in Japanese meaning fearful in English. I live in Japan and I'd like to see you and Emmet's band! Love you all!
This set is goated
Doesn’t get much better than this. I would LOVE to see this group of five in concert!
Hidden gems always hit hard
Not hidden tho
Incredible!
Awesome !
Amazing!
Sounds great Emmet and gents! Play on!
Amazing performance. Such a pleasure to listen to
Love your swing!! Yesses!!
YES! This whole set - Vol. 52 off the charts amazing 😁
Lol instant smile at the start "cheeky" so playful ❤
These all kill, but this one is some serious fun!❤️
Hey Bruce salute yall
Spontaneous Combustion language! So good!
Never get sick of Russell
Cannonball lives!
I was already entranced by after the first few notes. Such an incredible Cannonball & Nat (with Joe of course!)…and it only got better.
What a quintet! What a great feeling of time demonstrated by all players. I think I need a rest to process this…but I’m addicted…😁
IWhen I see that purple hat, 8 know it’s gonna feel great! Keep on keepin’ on Lawrence!❤️
Playing at emmets place is the dream
Joe Saylor, virtuoso!
MORE PATRICK YES
Album please - of this band:
Emmet Cohen - Piano
Bruce Harris - Trumpet
Patrick Bartley - Alto Saxophone
Russell Hall - Bass
Joe Saylor - Drums
Goats
The Bass player, Russell Hall I believe, is looking fire
I like the drum tuning. He definitely has the "humm in the drumm"
1:28 cool line 😎
8:22 💫💫
Joe Zawinul tune. Great.
Enoooooorme !!!! :-) C'est Cannonball qui joue ou quoi !… 😮
Swingin'
1:49 3:24 5:00
Dang y'all are hanging. Smokin' rendition. So nice to hear idiomatic jazz done supremely well and without the modal fusion stuff injected.
1:05 a little Marmaduke!
1:49 note to self for transcribing purposes
3:28
So melodic
What's different about this form?
An 8 bar bridge! Think rhythm changes, but the A sections are each a blues form
A ludian bridge
Blues w/ Lydian bridge.
I’m listening to a better Cannonball rn 😦
Screaming, scheming, fealing solos with meaning.
Bartley plays increasingly undisciplined, like in a self-help group. No matter what piece he plays, his phrases sound similarly random.
