American here. Most cars are automatic here. But they still make manual cars. You dont need licenses specific to manual/automatic. And my driving school only taught me how to drive a manual car. Also the trick to parallel parking is to just find somewhere else to park. Parallel parking is the most horrific task ever. Parking in general is terrifying, but parallel parking is way worse.
That‘s great parallel parking advice! ;) Manual cars are cheaper (here) so that‘s mostly why they‘re still so popular. But on top of that they‘re just inexplicably popular. To the point that I‘ve had a (friendly) argument with a friend about whether there will be manual electric cars, despite the fact that these could technically be driven with just one pedal... (I maintain manual electric cars are not going to be a thing...)
