Trying to argue, reason with, or seek answers from an abuser is like trying to hold a serious conversation with someone who’s under the influence of drugs or alcohol. An abuser doesn’t care how you feel or what you want, they’re only interested in what’s going on for them. She made the mistake of telling him she doesn’t deserve to be treated badly but not taking action to prevent herself from being treated badly. He has zero reasoning adjust his behaviour based on how she feels because he’s already chosen to be abusive based on what he gets from it. Save your breath and your energy and walk away. You can’t win through being reasonable with an unreasonable person.

There's a lot of truth to the old adage, "if they hit you once, they will hit you again". I lived through this for nearly 10 years as my self-confidence dissipated. I look back and I don't know the person I was. I certainly wasn't perfect but I came from a home where my parents NEVER, EVER fought in front of me. In fact, I never saw any animosity between them. He came from a home where screaming at each other from the break of dawn to bedtime was status quo though they were seemingly a tight family. We usually when something is not right and not meant to be. I knew from almost day one but I was afraid of being alone. How silly I feel now because the day it was finally over, my life instantly did a 180. And on his final days, he had the audacity to say that I was the best thing that ever happened to him.

Abusers try the first abusive thing to test the waters. When you give them a 2nd chance it keeps escalating until they are comfortable with doing any and everything to the person they are abusing. The first abusive thing my ex done to me was throw an Indian takeaway over me. I was so shocked and hurt at his behaviour. I forgave him but I was so confused and didn’t realise I was pregnant at the time so I was very emotional. Anyway I should of left his ass then but I didn’t and the abuse only got worse and worse until it was unbearable and I had to leave. Whenever I watch something like that, I wish more parents would send their daughter to martial art classes from a young age. Teach them that girls aren't fragile little things who can't defend themselves in front of a man... Yes men will always have more muscles, but body conditioning, flexibility, technique, discipline and self-confidence taught with martial art would compensate for this little disadvantage...

I've been here. Stayed for 13 years...trying and trying. First I stayed because I was naive. Then I stayed thinking I could change him. By then I had become accustomed to it. Next thing I knew, I was pregnant. Thought that having a daughter would change him. Nope. First picture of my daughter was nursing her but all I see is the huge scar on my breast next to her little face from where he had gouged a chunk of me during a fight. Finally left when he tried to hit me when I was holding my baby. That wasnt the end though. I tried and tried some more. Even to the point that I started to drink just to be able to handle the constant verbal assaults. Finally, God gave me strength to stop trying. My beautiful daughter is now 15. Im in a healthy relationship with a wonderful man who loves us both! No fussing, cussing or ducking! Im 43 now and even though its been years, I still have the physic as l reminders but the worst is the mental aspect. I work on this part and Im not sure it will ever resolve but, all thats over now.

There's a lot of truth to the old adage, "if they hit you once, they will hit you again". I lived through this for nearly 10 years as my self-confidence dissipated. I look back and I don't know the person I was. I certainly wasn't perfect but I came from a home where my parents NEVER, EVER fought in front of me. In fact, I never saw any animosity between them.
He came from a home where screaming at each other from the break of dawn to bedtime was status quo though they were seemingly a tight family.
We usually when something is not right and not meant to be. I knew from almost day one but I was afraid of being alone. How silly I feel now because the day it was finally over, my life instantly did a 180. And on his final days, he had the audacity to say that I was the best thing that ever happened to him.

Look for signs of disrespect, belittling comments, insecurity, jealousy, hatefulness, saying harsh comments and then say they are just playing, making you feel like YOU'RE overreacting and not respecting your boundaries. This can be a male or a female. Men are NOT the only ones who can be abusive.

The first abusive thing my ex done to me was throw an Indian takeaway over me. I was so shocked and hurt at his behaviour. I forgave him but I was so confused and didn’t realise I was pregnant at the time so I was very emotional. Anyway I should of left his ass then but I didn’t and the abuse only got worse and worse until it was unbearable and I had to leave. I've been here. Stayed for 13 years...trying and trying. First I stayed because I was naive. Then I stayed thinking I could change him. By then I had become accustomed to it. Next thing I knew, I was pregnant. Thought that having a daughter would change him. Nope. First picture of my daughter was nursing her but all I see is the huge scar on my breast next to her little face from where he had gouged a chunk of me during a fight. Finally left when he tried to hit me when I was holding my baby. That wasnt the end though. I tried and tried some more. Even to the point that I started to drink just to be able to handle the constant verbal assaults. Finally, God gave me strength to stop trying. My beautiful daughter is now 15. Im in a healthy relationship with a wonderful man who loves us both! No fussing, cussing or ducking! Im 43 now and even though its been years, I still have the physic as l reminders but the worst is the mental aspect. I work on this part and Im not sure it will ever resolve but, all thats over now.
