I am also a quilter and have an expensive machine. My advice to get a cheap machine at Walmart or wherever, and it doesn’t have to be big. I have a small machine I use for paper, it just needs a few basic stitches. I say this because most of the time you are sewing through glue which some is going to be on your needle which is going down into your machine and eventually into the gears. I kind of shutter whenever I see someone with an expensive machine sewing glued paper 😮 That is just my opinion.
Yes, you are very very right! I plan on buying a cheaper machine for crafting and keep this one for fabric sewing. It's just that I wanted to make this tutorial for so long I didn't want to postpone even more by waiting until I "finally bought that cheaper machine". But I recommend indeed a cheap machine for this.
I don’t have an expensive machine and have not used it for paper yet.I will be super careful anyway. But I was hoping to find a used $20 machine thrifting for paper. I have another machine but its in need of service and no one here who can do it.
Amazon has really inexpensive ones, most have multiple stitches and it’s really all you need for paper. It’s really not so much the paper as it the glue. I don’t even use fabric tack because the cost to service these is also expensive 🙂I would rather just spend my money on fun stuff (I don’t need 🤣)!
Hello Tinne. This is your friend and big fan Linda from Wisconsin USA. Your are my favorite teacher and creator. Thank you for making this video. I have many machines but my favorite is an 1889 Singer 12 hand crank sewing machine.
I love this! I've seen crafters use a sewing machine to stitch a booklet, but I love the edge treatments. I'm also thinking about doing hand cut or die cut 'applique' - stick a die cut piece down with glue just in the center to hold it in place, then stitch around the edges. Zigzag over the edge of the die cut would look cute for that.
Hi Tinne: I sew fabric and paper on my Brother (nothing real fancy.) I think you did a great job explaining how to use your machine with paper. Thank you so much for the freebie. Great little happy mail. 💜😎🇺🇸
Singer is one of the best Sewing machine Brands. Singer and Pfaff are really really good. If you are working with Paper I highly recommend to use cheap Needles. Paper makes it, like it does with scissors, dull. But the Effects in your Projects are absolutely stunning.
I have heard some people say they use one needle for fabric and one (same kind) for paper as it will dull the needle quicker. They just switch between the 2. I only just started sewing for my journals so haven't needed to switch the needles out. Also if you glue things before sewing make sure the glue is dry, glue sparingly (you won't need to use alot) and glue in the center of the item to hold it and not around the edges where you will be sewing. That will reduce risk of glue damaging your needle or the machine.
Thank you Tinne, I’ve always been a bit afraid of using my machine with paper but you make it look really easy. And with your lovely freebie I’m going to try it today.
Thanks Tinne for this tutorial! I printed ur freebie and I am ready to do this! I tried teaching someone a DIY recipe for making glue today, and instead she made fun of me. I am glad I can come here where ppl appreciate one another❤ and do not tear each other down.
Thank you so much for a great video and the freebies to practice on. I'm a junk journaller however not confident on my sewing machine as the few attempts to practice with paper stock, I couldn't get the tensions to work correctly and the pages kept ripping with the needle holes. However with your video and freebies, I'm inspired to try again. LOL wish me luck. Blessings. Vanessa xo
This is really helpful!!! Why didn't I think to pull the thread to the back? I always went back and forth, and it looked horrible, and so I stopped the sewing-thing after a few tries.
Hi Tinne! I enjoyed your video. I have used my sewing machine but I’ve been having trouble with the tension. I can’t seem to get it right. But I’m not giving up on it. Thanks for your tutorial💖
I had to leave my sewing machine behind when I left the States - I bought it because it was quite cheap, and had a lot of fun with it. But where I live now they are quite expensive, and I cannot justify the expense for a few crafting projects. I will use the printies for notebooks, or notepads maybe. Thank you for the tutorial, you did a great job! :)
Tinne, You did an EXCELLENT job of explaining how to sew. I have been sewing since I was about 8 years old. That was 70 years ago. LOL Yup, I learned how to sew on my mother's treadle Singer machine. Boy have we come a long way. I never thought to thread the end pieces to bring them to the back. See you can teach an old person new tricks. Thankyou for all you do. I am recovering from cancer and I can sit and play with your designs on my laptop. I do share your shop and UA-cam channel with my crafty friends.
Oh this is wonderful Tinne and I was hoping you would show us one day how to sew paper. It’s a bit daunting because you’re not sure if you’ll break your needle or if the paper gets stuck. Your tutorial helped me see that it can be done quite easily. Thank you for the demonstration and the cute freebie which is appreciated. Be well and stay safe.❤😊👍🤗🇨🇦
Thank you for doing this, I see lots of people sewing in their journals but I have never had the confidence. Now I know to experiment with paper and different stitches
Hello dear Tinne! Tysm for sharing this interesting tutorial. I love how the paper looks with these sewings on it and I like the grungy style too. You always care about how to craft, mainly for beginners, and I am always learning from you and all the people who crafts with your marvelous creations. I wanna thank you again for this tutorial and all the generous freebies you are always sending us. Love them all ❤❤❤
I have sewn for years. I love sewing for my junk journals now. I am curious though. Why are you using a needle to bring a thread forward? Just pull up on the thread on one side and it will bring the back thread with it. Then I grab the little loop and pull it up till the back thread comes up, and then I tie the threads as you have done. No needle necessary.
Thank you Tinne ❤️ I want to try paper sewing for a long time but not sure how to do, so thankful for your sharing and with all the demonstration step by step to help me, and give me confidence to have a try on it 😀. Many thanks for your tips and tutorial 😊 ❤
I have 3 sewing machines that I've purchased in the past 10 years, specifically to use on paper. I have never been able to get them to work. I'll get one out and try again. It looks easy when you do it, but I get frustrated and just give up. I'll take my time. Thanks fir the tutorial!
Thank you for this tutorial! I've wanted to use my sewing machine with my paper crafts, but wasn't sure how to start. Now I'm going to go experiment! ❤
Thank you Tinne, you explained everything very clearly. I do have a sewing machine (different from yours) but not a real good space to use it, not yet anyway. I found it interesting that your brand of sewing machine said, Singer Confidence 😁. Do you know where I could purchase some confidence 😮 LoL 😜. Thanks again for the amazing freebies and videos you share. Take care and God bless you and yours. Sincerely Becky B from Arkansas
I used a glue stick here. Definitely wait until the glue is dry. But I even plan to buy a cheaper machine just for crafting. The glue could over time indeed be an issue for the machine.
Okay, how does this freebee work exactly 🤔? I wright down my name and emailadres and push the send button. Than what happens? How can I print the freebies?
@@vectoriadesigns Hello, these stitches look beautiful on the machine, unfortunately... I was unable to download these files, I have already written to support.

Yes Singer is to good for that. Paper is bad for sewing machines

I would love a free project! I am terrified about stitching, for fear the paper will split! Thanks for the turorial

Thank you Tinne. I've had a sewing machine for three years now. I've practiced on plain paper but never on any project. Now is the time.
Very helpful - and thanks so much for the freebie too!

Indeed, the tension is different for each machine and can be a hard thing to get right.
This is really helpful!!! Why didn't I think to pull the thread to the back? I always went back and forth, and it looked horrible, and so I stopped the sewing-thing after a few tries.
Great tutorial. TFS. Thanks for freebie ❤

Hi Tinne! I enjoyed your video. I have used my sewing machine but I’ve been having trouble with the tension. I can’t seem to get it right. But I’m not giving up on it. Thanks for your tutorial💖
I hear you. I only had tension problems with older machines that were past their best days, so I always thought it was an "old equipment" problem.

Thank you Tinne for taking the time to show us. I love the look of stitching on paper but don’t know how to use a machine.
Great idea! I will have to try it.

Such a coincidence, I’ve just bought a sewing machine😄thanks!
Muy buen tutorial, espero que nos enseñes a hacer mas cosas con la màquina de coser. ❤
I bought a portable machine over a year ago but haven’t even set it up! Thank you for giving me some confidence to use it!

Hello, so sorry you've had a problem with your machines. Maybe purchase a heavy duty needle that says it's for Denim.
Thank you Tinne for showing how to stitch our paper projects and thank you for the freebie to practice with xxx
This is excatlly what I needed. Borrowed my mums machine yesterday and trying to figure out. So this was kismet❤
Great tutorial! Thanks for sharing the freebies tags. They are so pretty! ❤

Hello Tinne ! Très joli ! Moi j'ai plutôt l'habitude de coudre des tissus 😉 merci beaucoup, bon week-end et à bientôt. Bye bye
Awesome, thank you 🙏 for showing. To "clean" up my loose end of thread I use a floss threader, which works really good.
Really Really needed and enjoyed this! I am insired and off to my craft room! TY!! again, and again, and again.. ;)

Hahaha, I only noticed the brand name after I already edited the tutorial :') What a coincidence indeed.
This is awesome! Thank you for the tutorial.❤ and the freebie~
I'm going to do it Tinne ♥ I Promise ! Thank You for All You do ♥
So helpful! Thank you, too, for the freebie to practice on…very thoughtful tutorial.❤
✨🌼❣️Thank you❣️🌼✨
Thank you veey much Tinne ❣️❣️❣️
I have a commercial machine that works great it's all metal parts 😊
I use machine for cloth n paper . Does well . The needle size is important
Thank you dear, looking forward to machine practice.
Thank you, for the freebee and i think i try IT......🥺😰
❤
😍❤️
Very informative tutorial Tinne. =^^=
Lovely tutorial!
You talked about stitching chipboard with a leather needle. What thickness of chipboard can you sew like that?
I'm not sure yet, I need to do some more experimenting. I hope 1mm chipboard + a few layers of cardstock will be doable.
Thank you. What kind of glue did you use? liquid or glue stick? I'm worried that the glue will gunk up my machine eventually
I used a glue stick here. Definitely wait until the glue is dry. But I even plan to buy a cheaper machine just for crafting. The glue could over time indeed be an issue for the machine.

It opens automatically plus it gets send to your email address. If that doesn’t happen it’s best to send an email to support@vectoriadesigns.com
