New Big 12 teams, meet Kansas State University! An Introduction

- As new schools get added to the Big 12 conference at a staggering rate, it becomes apparent that fans of these new schools might not be too familiar with their future conference opponents or the universities they represent. The Big 12 itself is full of schools that have strong regional brands, but not national ones---yet. One of these schools is my alma mater, Kansas State, and I've noticed a trend amongst fanbases online of confusion over the Wildcats. So, as an introduction to K-State for those new seven schools (and Colorado, welcome back Buffaloes), I decided to make this brief overview of the Cats for anyone who might need a refresher on some of K-State's heavy hitters.
In this video, I cover some basic traditions of K-State, like the Pride of Wildcatland and the Wabash Cannonball, as well as some brief histories of the football and basketball programs, from Bill Snyder's greatest building project in college sports history to the arrival of Jerome Tang as head men's basketball coach last season, and even some insight on K-State's biggest rivalries with KU and Iowa State.
As always, the comments are always open to response, as long as nobody flings any mud or starts any arguments. K-State fans, be sure to add things in the comments I missed that you think is important enough for the new fans to know. Fans of the new eight schools, don't be afraid to ask questions, like where the best place to eat in Manhattan is or where to go to tailgate.
Given that I'm a K-State grad, I won't be making any videos on the other Big 12 schools, since I flat out don't come from a position of knowledge for them. But if you have the means, I'd like to challenge you to make an introductory video as well. It's not every day a conference as competitive as the Big 12 adds eight programs, so insight like that would be greatly appreciated! - Спорт
I know I'm angling myself differently here than I normally do, but it's still a video I've wanted to make, especially with UCF coming to town in a few weeks. K-State fans, be sure to add things in the comments I missed that you think is important enough for the new fans to know.
Fans of the new eight schools, don't be afraid to ask questions, like where the best place to eat in Manhattan is or where to go to tailgate. I'll try to do my best to answer some occasionally, but the hope is some other K-State fans can answer them too. We like to be welcoming to opposing fanbases!
I'm at my parents’ house in Nebraska for Christmas, & the TV news anchor just made a joke about K-state’s bowl game that I think you'll like; “the loser (of the Poptart’s Bowl) is just Toast”.
I’m an ISU fan through and through. Farmaggedon is the most dreaded and anticipated conference game on the schedule. It never fails to give me grey hairs.
We feel the same way about Farmaggedon. I’ve never been more stressed when watching Football than when we play Iowa State. It’s a shame we won’t have it annually.
Lubbock resident and TTU grad here, who spent some time in Topeka and sided with K-State over KU. Thanks.
Oklahoma fan here who will greatly miss my every other year trip to Manhattan. Great town, beautiful area of the country, and a fun environment for a football game. Highly recommend new big 12 teams make the journey to the little apple.
We will miss you too.
Bearcats fan here and very glad to be playing K-State for the foreseeable future! I'm pumped getting to face Kansas, Iowa State, and Oklahoma State, my father is a texas fan so grew up watching Big 12 teams as well!
As a Cincy Fan, thanks!
Really appreciate the shine Bill Snyder got in this video. I was raised an Alabama fan but I’ve always loved the underdog story and I think Snyder’s story is so underappreciated as far as college football goes.
one of the only things you forgot to really mention about our school mottoe is FAMILY, hence why we always say "family," or you'll see FAMILY postered around a lot.
Great vid. As a KU student I learned a lot about our neighbors to the west. To our new or returning members, welcome to the Big 12 from Jayhawk nation!
Good video. 👍 Welcome to the new members of the Big 12. Go 'Cats!
Seeing as CU needs an in-conference rival (it never worked with Utah and now Utah will be reunited with BYU anyway) I would love to see a rivalry with Kansas State reemerge. It was never to the level of CU-Nebraska, but CU-Kansas St had some bad blood back in the early 2000s. Sko Buffs
Made my way through Manhattan on my way to California. Hidden gem of a campus right there!
When I graduated, my mom said that is the way a college campus ought to look!
Thanks for this! As a UCF fan, I honestly can't say that I know that much about many of our conferences mates, so it's great to have this introduction and learn more about K State!
Love the college vids. The research on the MAC video was top tier.
Great job of presenting the Cats and MHK! I lived in Manhattan from 1988 to 1990, and it is by far the best of the many places I have lived. I became a K-State fan while I was there, even though it was during the "Futility U" era before Snyder arrived. When Snyder won his first game, the town went absolutely wild because it was the first victory the team had won in 3 years. It was comparable to Lincoln, NE when Nebraska won a national championship half a decade later. I actually have fond memories of the "nightmare" version of Willie the Wildcat, as he occasionally visited the elementary school I went to at that time. When the current design, based on the Powercat logo, was introduced in 1997, I wasn't impressed at first, as I thought he looked more like a badger than a wildcat (due to the stripes). The new look has grown on me over the years though. I live a few hours' drive away now, but I've returned to Manhattan for the Cats' season openers each of the last 2 years and intend to keep doing so in the future.
As a UCF fan, I appreciate the rundown on K-State. Looking forward to seeing the Knights back in Manhattan. #ChargeOn
Happy to be here! Go Utes!

have so much respect for K State as a program, as a Sooner fan I'll miss playing y'all the most (excluding Okie State)
I’ve told some cincy fans who think they’re hot stuff that they’re going to get exposed to the k state treatment from the big 12 pretty quick. Great video
Wabash cannonball is awesome. Go cats.
Fellow KSU grad and 5 year member of The Pride here. I found your channel through your video on Tulane, Georgia Tech, and Chicago and thought "man this guy should talk about Coach Snyder" without even seeing your profile picture. Awesome video! Hope you do more KSU stuff.
Found your videos while searching for pac 12 history. Loved your work and immediately subscribed. Didn’t know you graduated from k-state as well. Go Cats!
I know that I'm extremely late to the party, but as the weeks have gone by over the latter half of 2023, I have fallen *madly* in love with the new Big 12, and especially our Cincinnati Bearcats.
While UC's football season left a lot to be desired, there will be a lot more money and high ranking prospects coming to the Queen City, and I could not be more excited for the future.
As for all the other sports, men's and women's basketball were fantastic in non-conference play this year.
The Bearcat himself is quickly becoming my favorite mascot in sports (sorry, Big Red 😭💔)
I'm going to see the Bearcat womens' first ever Big 12 game vs Kansas State on 12/30, and I'm really excited to be a part of Bearcat history.
I love your videos, and I hope to see many more in the years to come. ❤😊
Being born and raised 20 miles from KU, I highly appreciate this video. I live a little further south now, but Lawrence is still home turf. Most of my family has gone to school at one of the old Big 8. Really cool to see a good video on ksu by someone who's actually lived there. Keep up the great work!
As a UH fan, glad we're now acquainted. We go to Manhattan for football, women's basketball, and soccer this year at least. Looking forward to it
Love the videos man, keep up the solid work. Any chance you could do a history of the Missouri Valley Conference? Especially after they split from the big 12
Arguably yr best video, it’s up there with the big 12 vid
Rule number one of the big 12 new guys: Blame UT for everything
most underrated channel, watched this video as an iowa fan 😂
Great video! would love a video about big 12 rivalries. Maybe include some historic games and some possible new rivaries with new members.
This is a very well made video.
You could always do a video on rivalries and why some don’t develop like Maryland-Rutgers but others do. Or could just focus on some of the more interesting ones
I like this idea. Maybe some of the longest running rivalries that don’t get much national publicity. Kind of like Farmageddon .
Great video, I’d watch one for every school
Great video and amazing production value! I don’t know why but it seems like Kansas State should have a good baseball program.
Dude. I’m obsessed with your videos. Please do more like this.. FIU if you can
Excellent story and accurate dude. It makes me proud to be a wildcat. I just subscribed to your channel.
Very well done!
this was a great video. i wish every school (read someone in the fan base) would produce one.
Another positive factoid to attribute to Prince - he brought Klein to Manhattan.
Please do a history of the Ohio Valley Conference. It is a very weird conference from its inception and teams move every few years.
Well done.
As a TCU Alum, I’d love to help you make a Horned Frog video!
Great video man! As a K-State Alumni and now living in Houston and married to a Texas aggie with lots of aggie friends it's tough sometimes to explain to them how great Kansas State is they just think of the mediocrity. I'll have to show them this!
As a KSU fan (Kennesaw) I appreciate you using KSTATE instead of KSU
With a video like this you have to make decisions regarding the length of time to spend on particular elements. This one is probably best in a comment. I have been attending road KSU games now for several years. One of the things I like to take in at an opponent's venue is the pregame. I mean, sure, tailgating when possible, but I mean inside the stadium. I've enjoyed several and others have been rather disappointing, but it's made me appreciate what is unique about the schools. I really like KSU's pregame. It has been in place for a long, long time. If you attend a game in Manhattan (or elsewhere), I encourage you to make time for the pregame.
well done
We’re coming for your crop judging lead, mark my words.
Great video!!!
Greetings from Raiderland. Hope to see a Tech Video soon *wink wink*
Pornstar Jimmy ftw 👌🏻
You should do history of the SEC
Utes next?
Kansas jayhawk fan here but id emd you if we were to meet
"Thank you for the amazing content keep it up, I love all the in depth history research and amazing facts"! "Go The Ohio State Buckeyes though:)"!
Go cats!
The Oklahoma State University is looking for a new in-conference rival ANY TAKERS? 😂
I for one am a proponent of the Dust Bowl between oSu and Tech. Lots of bad blood there anyway, what with the "Xerox Bowl" claims and all that. Shootout at the OK Corral would be a good nickname, too.
ACC please ??
How about F conference videos(no I love them lol)?? Make a video or if necessary a series of videos about the non conference aka the fbs independents. Conferences are for losers.
EMAW 👌🏽
So basically K-State has won 31 national titles in the only sport that anyone cares about?
Crop Judge U
In terms of hating Iowa State, Kansas State 🤝 Iowa
Go Knights ⚔️⚔️
I want Cocaine Willie to return!

Yall need softball!!
100%. I'm upset we don't have it. It's a money issue, but adding softball and men's and women's wrestling would be my first move as AD if money was no object. This state is very talented in those sports and watching athletes go elsewhere and succeed because we don't have those sports really stings.
@@lukeontheplains softball has grown significantly throughout the country, so I feel it would be a good investment for K-State. I would say wrestling too, because of the talent in that area for it as well like you said. Look at Oklahoma softball, they’ve completely revamped softball for the big 12. But they are moving to the sec where softball has exploded so idk how that move affects the big 12. But the big 12 still has some solid teams in it for softball. Oklahoma state, Baylor, KU has gotten better, as well as Texas tech. With the addition of BYU and UCF’s softball programs, that list will grow since they’re pretty good too. Not to mention Arizona and Arizona state too. I go to the university of Tennessee, and going to a school with one of the best softball programs, softball is a worthwhile investment for sure. Sorry for the softball rave, I’m an avid believer for women’s softball at every school haha.
Great video up until you claimed KU and K state were equal in hoops until the 1980s prior to 1980 hawks had 37 conference titles cats had 17. Cats had 4 final 4s hawks had 6 2 pre tournament helms titles and one NCAA title cats have 0. You claiming they were even is bad propaganda
In the time frame of the big 8s existence, on the eve of the 88 elite 8 matchup between them K-State had more sweet 16s and elite 8 appearances as well as more big 8 titles. KU had made deeper pushes in the tourney including the National championships but it was very much a matchup of goliaths at that point.
@@blakewewer4901 now look at big 7 big 6 and MVC it’s not close.
@@milesstevens456 trust me I’m well aware of the distance between the programs but it had been nearly 30 years since the big 7. And both programs had only played in one ncaa tournament championship each with KU winning there’s. The gap has gotten larger for sure since but it wasn’t a blowout by any means before our program collapsed following that season.
@@blakewewer4901 nah hawks played for the title 3 times before the big 8 cats did once cats never did during the big 8 era and the hawks did and won
*4 times

Hey guys! Love your work!!
Wow. Didn’t know Mr. Woods played baseball, let alone baseball for K-State.
