Musiq’s catalog is unmatched. Those first two albums are top tier. Although, he’s not always mention in the conversations of great R&B talents, he is indeed appreciated this way.
Music had everyone on that "M-A-R-Y-H-O-W-C-O-U-L-D-Y-O-U-B-E-S-O-C-R-U-E-L-T-O-M-E-M-Y-LOVE!" MEMORIZED since the album released! Everyone who had it knew it and we were VIBIN'! Whole album full of hot lines. And that was the BEGINNING! What!?
Like SERIOUSLY!!!! EVERYBODY and I mean everybody that has been on this pod has mentioned her in some form or fashion. Brandy is underrated and AMAZING!!!
This interview has now entered into my top 3 of all the interviews y'all have done. #1 is still Jamie Foxx #2 is Babyface. Okay now I would love to see Raheem DeVaughn, D'Angelo, Monica, Jasmine Sullivan, Avant, Kem, Faith Evans, Ledisi, Anthony Hamilton, Brandy, EnVogue, Toni Tony Tone, Jill Scott.....just to start lol.
Seeing this interview has given me a the true perspective of Musiq. Only people that are truly introverts will understand where he is coming from.. I hope he finds peace with his childhood. We all need a support system and you can see he had to figure it out on his own. When you are comfortable in the background and you have a talent that puts you out in the front...it will always be hard to take a compliment and be comfortable to getting your flowers. You are coming from a pure place and people try and take advantage of that innocence.
J Valentine, you were not lying. That debut CD of his is one of the BEST!! I can still play that album ALL THE WAY THROUGH WITHOUT skipping songs because ALL of them were GREAT!! Genuine talent.❤
I haved loved Musiq since the very beginning!! 143 has been my most favorite song for the past 15 yrs!! My baby was killed at 10 months in 2015. My husband and I went to his grave for his first birthday. We took some Mickey Mouse balloons bc that is who he loved at the time. We were weeping and so sorrowful and as the wind blew, one of the balloons had 143 taped to it and I lost it! If you don't know, 143 means I love you and I felt like my baby boy was talking to me. I am crying rn as I remember that day. Thank you for this interview.

He had so many songs that were where I was as a young man. Me and and my now wife, had just started dating and songs that captured the things on first meeting, new love, previous relationship baggage, sustaining love, talking about the real things that you need in a meaningful relationship, Musiq captured it all! And even on songs like Dear John, he captures what it's like when the relationship comes to an end. I call my wife "Baby Girl" from his song of the same name... The way he was taking to the girl, "Pardon me mydarling, but do you have a second... Just so I can tell how you caught my full attention... How is that you look so well put together, flawless as can be it just doesn't get no better. Ya bodies picture perfect and there ain't a brick that's missin, you look like ya momma raised you on that grits and chicken..." Yes, He did appear to be. Seif aborbed, however, things are not how they appear to be....I learned a lot about Muszik SoulChild. He was experiencing real life while manifesting his musical legacy!

Some of these artists have PTSD bad. Tank and J are the music therapists because they understand their life as artists and the business side. This podcast is needed. Us as fans don't realize what has happened behind the scenes of why some of our favorite artists disappeared. I can tell Musiq is having a hard time.
This interview has to be in my top 5. J. Valentine is asking all the right questions. Musiq Soulchild albums that listening to it with my friends in the car, reading the credits, and breaking down the lyrics. One of his most underrated songs "Previous cats ". Love all of his gifting. Thanks R&B money ❤❤❤
Him and ERo made a classic with that one! Every argument me and my child’s mom would get into bets believe I was either playing or singing that for the rest of the day
Musiq Soulchild created so much great music! One of my all-time favorite artists! That first CD helped me a lot with the ladies! Thanks Musiq Soulchild!!
Musiq is unquestionably in MY top 5 all time. His story resonates with me & I love he is able to express himself on a deeper level in this...musical therapy session. This is why Neo Soul is my favorite branch of R&B.
Musiq Soulchild is a HUGE part of my childhood. He made me, as a little girl, feel beautiful and loved...helped me to appreciate my differences when others saw them as "flaws". I, as a child, felt seen and important. Not in any wrong way...but he said what my father would say to me, in lyric form. I love his artistry and timeless music 🥺🥺❤❤
This Dude never disappoints ! He had a cold when he came to Houston and still gave a stellar show. I've bought every CD he has made. I Love Musiq Soulchild ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Aijuswanaseing dropped my Freshman year in college and was a true gem! So glad they had him on. Hearing the backstory gives me an even deeper appreciation for his artistry! Awesome interview.
Musiq Soulchld is so philosophically artistic! He’s a creative and a thinker, and I can 100% identify with that. It can be torturous. Sending him lots of love and light! Amazing interview Tank and J!!!
I don't know if Bilal will ever do the pod but I would cancel all plans just to watch. Im so glad the guys gave him his flowers. He is a gift from elsewhere ❤
Around the 2:20:00 mark is where I got emotional. Because it's true for so many of us artists. Who don't quite fit the mold and who have been through so much, and don't feel like we'll ever reach those dreams. Falling into the darkness of disappointment. I appreciate Musiq's transparency so much and his willingness to share his trauma and his pain and just being where he is now, the respect and admiration of his peers and the masses. That's a blessing.
I love Musiq Soulchild!! He never does interviews like this and to have him on for almost 3 hours is amazing!! Love his music!! I missed the first hour so I will go back and watch again!! Keep the R&B Money Podcast Train going!! ❤️❤️🎼🎼
My FAVORITE effing podcast! Love Tank & J. Had to stop it and write this: When Soulchild said, "I'm here for you," and J said, " Boy you pimpin'" I laughed myself into tears!!! Listen to a woman, make her laugh, open her door...., it's GOLD!
I watched and listened to the ENTIRE INTERVIEW. I've loved this man from day one. Sir we love you and always have. What you've done for R&B will never go unnoticed, we love you Musiq Soulchild. Tank and J, 🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾
I love that he mentioned past trauma and living a life not wanting to be seen or noticed, basically tryna hide yourself...it's so relatable and inspiring ❤🧡💛💚💙💜
Tank and Musiq got me through middle, high school and college. Literally my top 2 artists of all time. Y’all’s music is cemented in my dna and always will be. Appreciate this dialogue between you all!
Musiq 1st album was 1 of my prized possessions in 7th grade 2003. I loved him and I knew who ever he was he was greatness ..and to this day musiq soul child only make hit records. His albums never flopped and every single goes #1 EVERYTIME. He's the "nas" of R &B low-key 1 of the greatest neo- soul r&b singers to me. He's with D'Angelo and Raphael saadiq 👑
I agree, Bilal's voice and the authenticity of his music is dope to experience live. He opened for Jill Scott in Nashville last month and I was stoked! The audience didn't deserve him; they weren't hype enough for me!😄 Bilal performed!
I agree. I go wherever Bilal is and many times the audience pisses me off. Bilal is doing all kinds of vocal arrangements on the stage and they're sitting there looking dumb... I'm over there yelling Sing B!!!! Ready to throw my shoes off...and they're sitting there. Bilal is the truth in every way that matters.
I love this interview. Musiq telling the straight up tru-true. I never heard such a real heart pour out such wisdom from such a spiritual place. This brother the real deal. Respect 🙏🏾
An interview that was long overdue. Too see this side of Musiq makes everything about him come full circle. It all makes sense. His childhood, his hustle, his innocence, his humility, his trauma...I get him even more. His 2nd album got me through the death of my mother. She was my world. I was listening to him as she passed away. I will always love and be a fan of his...even more so today. As always, great job Tank and J. V. MANY Blessings to you all and Musiq❤

Just WOW. I ❤️ this podcast for so many reasons. The authentic appreciation and love. The comedy. The nerding out on music. The R&B voltron. This interview was so intriguing. Musiq’s trauma is palpable when he speaks about it. I appreciate his music even more given his journey. His genius and artistry are a wonder to behold.
I instantly fell in love with Musiq's music the first time I heard one of his songs. He's the reason I love Neo Soul to this day. He's such a humble and genuine person that no wonder why he sings the best songs!
I love how Tank & JV just pour so much positive inspiration, love & support this show is amazing frfr sometimes people don’t understand or see their own greatness until it’s coming from someone else! 👏🏽🥰❤️🥹✅💯

THANK YOU! I will be 47 this year and am finally finding my voice. I Am blessed with the gift to sing but never got the support or reassurance and therefore stayed in my shell. Was once even told to shut up when attempting to show my uncle my talent. He started a gospel/hip hop group with his sons and I really wanted to be part of it. Forgiveness is what's helping me to persevere at this point in life. Y'alls podcast is more beneficial than you probably realize. THANK YOU!!
I can somewhat relate! I’m 48 and have been singing along time still trying to find my voice. I did a couple of cd’s HIPHOP/inspirational style with several videos here on UA-cam. Keep pushing in your dreams and may the Lord order your steps 🙏🏾🎼💯

So glad we got this personal and eye opening conversation with Musiq! Aijuswanasing is one of my favorite R&B albums, no skips!!!! I remember meeting & taking a picture with him at Essence Music Fest & seeing him at House of Blues in NO!!! Musiq always gives great live performances!!!
T AND J, yall interviewing skills are just at an all time level & ESPECIALLY on this one, yall 'handling ' of this 'necessary artist' was on point & to get so mush great info/insights out of him and both of you in respects to the music business. JV's question About the age 17 record resulting in its own 'funny and f'd up' situation was invaluable and funny. I LOVE laughing along with yall waiting on him to come up with his TOP FIVE singers. As an old 90s songwriter his approach and regular honesty resonated with me on JUST FRIENDS . Love hearing the stories about the songs. THANKS R&B MONEY. YALL DID IT AGAIN! STANDING O! ❤
One of my favorite collaborations is when He worked with Robert Glasper and the song was Ah Yeah among others Musiq’s voice flows like water no matter what song you hear from Him you will be over taken away and taken on a journey through the currents of His soul ❤❤❤❤

Musiq Soulchild created so much great music! One of my all-time favorite artists! That first CD helped me a lot with the ladies! Thanks Musiq Soulchild!!
Previous cats goes down in history of being one of my favorites. Cuz baby, I am not the blame for the pain that was caused by previous cats!
Musiq is unquestionably in MY top 5 all time. His story resonates with me & I love he is able to express himself on a deeper level in this...musical therapy session. This is why Neo Soul is my favorite branch of R&B.
A whole Care Bear in these streets! 😂The visuals
Not "When I am on the Greyhound, I think about us"! 🤣🤣🤣 This Tank version is pure comedy💜
I love his artistry and timeless music 🥺🥺❤❤
that's beautiful to hear!!❤💯
Same here🔥🔥🔥🙌🏿🙌🏿🙌🏿❤️❤️❤️😍😍😍😍🥰🥰🥰☺️☺️☺️☺️🙏🏿🙏🏿🙏🏿love him for being there for us through his music. 😊😊😊💯💯💯💯💯💯💯💯💯💯💯💯💯💯💯💯💯💯💯💯💯💯
JOE. JOE. JOE.
JOE. JOE. JOE.
We NEED Joe!'
This Dude never disappoints ! He had a cold when he came to Houston and still gave a stellar show. I've bought every CD he has made. I Love Musiq Soulchild ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
This feels like therapy. Loved the reflection and vulnerability shared. Another great episode!!!
Aijuswanaseing dropped my Freshman year in college and was a true gem! So glad they had him on. Hearing the backstory gives me an even deeper appreciation for his artistry! Awesome interview.
same here.. Was the best Freshman yr ever… He came out, Voodoo dropped, Donnell dropped… Man it was a time to be alive
In the 20'sum years Music has been out, this is definitely the most of I've ever heard him speak!
I was just thinking the same...matter of fact, this is his first interview I'm watching
From a another planet, another Philly talent.
On point
They need to get him!!!
Been chasing him through clubs in DC for years. His live show is immaculate ❤
Yes yes yes!!!!
I absolutely did not want this to end. What an episode. 👏🏾
Me neither too on an unmatched undisputed level🙌🏿🙌🏿🙌🏿🔥🔥🔥❤️❤️❤️💯💯💯💐💐💐💐💐💐💐💐💐💐💐💐💐💐💐💐💐💐💐💐👑👑👑👑👑👑👑👑👑👑👑👑👑👑👑👑👑👑👑👑👑🙏🏿🙏🏿🙏🏿🙏🏿🙏🏿🙏🏿🙏🏿🙏🏿🙏🏿🙏🏿🙏🏿🙏🏿🙏🏿🙏🏿🙏🏿🙏🏿🙏🏿🙏🏿🙏🏿🙏🏿🙏🏿🙏🏿
R&B Money never misses! I'm proud to be a fan. ✨
Yooooo when Tank gets on the keys singing top 5 it takes me out every time!!! 😂🤣😂😂🤣
I love when pod episodes are over 2hrs. It’s like watching a good doc or movie. This was legendary.
I love Musiq Soulchild!! He never does interviews like this and to have him on for almost 3 hours is amazing!! Love his music!! I missed the first hour so I will go back and watch again!! Keep the R&B Money Podcast Train going!! ❤️❤️🎼🎼
Musiq Soulchild was always my favorite artist. I rarely used to purchase albums, but I purchased EVERY album this man dropped.
Timestamp?
He said... Did YOU hear YOU?
I HOLLERED at that part 😂😂😂❤💯. Not to mention he said it with a straight face. J is a damn fool 😂😂😂.
I’m so glad I watched this episode! You never know what someone is going through. Thank you for your transparency, Musiq Soulchild!
Jasmine Sullivan always making the top 5 is my fave part of these podcasts
So she needs to be on the show!!! (She or Brandy will do 😁)
I love that he mentioned past trauma and living a life not wanting to be seen or noticed, basically tryna hide yourself...it's so relatable and inspiring ❤🧡💛💚💙💜
Time mark?
Agreed. The crowd was disrespectful to Bilal. I was shocked.
Respect 🙏🏾
Exactly 💯💯💯💯
Tank’s spot on impersonation of Kem was definitely worth watching until the very last minute. Salute fellas! “LOVE-ing you, GIRL!”😂😂😂
Would love to see Marsha, Jazmine Sullivan, Eric Roberson, Glenn Lewis and Dwele
Yes!!!!!
Joe Thomas and Brian mcknight..for our African Market since they influenced us a lot here on rnb music
Dwele for sure, musical genius
I loooovvvvveeee Musiq!!!! His first 2 albums were all hits. No skips.
This is THE guest I have BEEN waiting for!! We are listening 👂🏾
Yes, I feel like they scrolled through the comments and saw my request ❤
One thing J Valentine gone do is bring it back to the five heartbeats some way some how. 😂😂 Great episode! Musiq is one of my favorites!
Y'ALL DON'T MISS!!! I'm already re-watching!!! I love how your format gets so much out of the artists. And I LOVE Musiq and have never seen this type of interview with him. THANK Y'ALL!!!
E V E R !!!

Not from Philly, but loved how Musiq showed love and appreciation for Philly artists in Top 5.
@@BabyGurlnJP 🤔YEAH I WAS SHOCKED TOO. I ALSO LOVED THAT HE MENTIONED STEVIE WONDER CUZ HE DID A COVER OF STEVIES SONGS BEFORE . MUSIQ 🎵 IS THE DEFINITION OF HIP HOP SOUL LIKE HE SAID .🤔SEE IN PHILADELPHIA WE ARE VERY SOULFUL WITH A SPLASH 💦 OF HIP HOP AND HES THE DEFINITION OF BOTH HIP HOP AND NEO SOUL 😎✊🏾🙏🏾🫶🏾 HONESTLY I THOUGHT PRIOR TO WATCHING THIS THE DESCRIPTION OF HIS STYLE AND HE SAID WHAT I SAID 🤣✊🏾🎤🙌🏾HES ALMOST EVERY AVENUE OF SOUL MUSIC CUZ HES MORE ABOUT HIS VOICE JUST NOT HIS IMAGE THE MOST YOU PUT OUT THATS WHAT SHINES ✨ BRIGHT AND HE FOCUSES ON HIS VOICE AND HIS VOICE IS JUST AMAZING 🤩 GOD BLESS HIM 🐐✊🏾🙏🏾🫶🏾🙌🏾🎤
Philly right here 👋🏾
Philly in the building 🙌🏾 what’s good?!
Philly the building ..facts been waiting for my hug .
Musiq Soulchild is so gifted musically. I love his melodic voice and songs. 🥰
Mary Go Round is that ish.
3 hrs long!?!😊😊. Grabs charging bank, earbuds and popcorn 🍿. This finna be good.
I instantly fell in love with Musiq's music the first time I heard one of his songs. He's the reason I love Neo Soul to this day. He's such a humble and genuine person that no wonder why he sings the best songs!
Shout out to J.valentine for having the understanding to help "Navigate" this industry.. he truly understands both sides of that coin❤
Musiq Soulchild is to music, what Tony Gwynn was to baseball…He don’t miss 👊🏾
MUUSSSSSIIIICCCCC SOULCHIIIIIIIIIIIIIIILLLLDDD! I BEEN SO EXCITED ABOUT THIS ALL WEEK! His music is the soundtrack to my teen and young adult life!!!
I love how Tank & JV just pour so much positive inspiration, love & support this show is amazing frfr sometimes people don’t understand or see their own greatness until it’s coming from someone else! 👏🏽🥰❤️🥹✅💯
This interview was great. I listened the whole 3 hours. Musiq Soulchild started from humbled beginnings. He came from a big family
He’s one of them individuals I consider timeless with timeless hits. His music make you feel. I can’t even think of my favorite they all are bops. Thank you MS and the team as usual.❤❤❤
The scream I scumpt when I saw Musiq’s face! Ugh love him!
2:09:46 You got jams......😂 . Musiq is and will always be my favorite R&B artist ever. Soo many songs that put you in a place and time in your life. Thats a gift...thank you sir we give you your flowers 💯🙏💐
Musiq is a cornerstone of soul music and is humble about it. From his first album has been killing the game...a vocal genius in his own right. Tank and J you two are doing your thingwith the guest we all want to hear from. Please keep them coming R&B lovers need this...

Whatever “Childhood Trauma” he has experienced, it has affected him and scarred him for life.
Keep pushing.
They really dont miss with these interviews....classic.
Tank, you get more & more ignorant every time you do your top 5 R&B singers intro but I LOVE IT!!!!😂😂😂
I thoroughly enjoyed Musiq’s transparency, and how he learned from his past, and is still learning! May his career continue to flourish 🙏🏾❤️🙏🏾
