2500 still seems so high for a mortgage but I don't know anything about new orleans real estate lol - I'm pretty confused on how her cousins own the property but she "manages it", she didn't mention paying rent at all despite the title.

@@mssonoma1 NOLA is being gentrified like crazy, so houses are costing more and more. My aunt had to put a sign on her fence because realators have been harassing her to sell her historical home in Uptown. The lady in the video did say she "pays $2500/mo". But the whole thing with her "managing the property" for her cousins who own the house, but also listening it on Airbnb...something feels off to me. This is not a normal rental situation.

Hey girl hey! Airbnb can be troubling when people who don't know or live in the city come to reap the benefits of it while not empowering their community. However, my family who owns the property are pillars in the black community. Beyond this property that is sometimes available via Airbnb they own several properties which are rented out at fair housing rates to not block black people out of their communities. 🙏🏽

SO GORGEOUS! I know your street! Our family hails from NOLA- You’ve done a beautiful job. Your home definitely reflects your world travels as well as your personal familial history! Your color palette & art work are so fine & well-curated. Anyone would be fortunate to stay in your home! In fact, I’m making note of it in case we’re in need of a home during a visit-& of course it worksw/ your schedule (I also attended graduate school in L.A.! & undergraduate in SFO, so also ♥️ Cali). Everything you’ve created vibes w/ me. We’ve renovated 6-7 🤔 historic homes I think. Mostly in neighborhoods such as yours in D.C. & Lafayette. LA-old town & Bendel Gardens - there a mid-century home we sold to the neighborhood’s first African Americans, which honestly caused a ‘stir/few phone calls which were promptly ended!’ among some of the older residents, but I desperately hope the sale was only the START of a REVERSE gentrification 👍🏽✅😱🥊👏🏽❤️‍🔥. You’re inspirational & I wish all & only the very best for you & yours. Perhaps we’ll meet one day soon! Our October trip to NOLA sadly has been cancelled due to the recent hurricane, but maybe our next visit could bring us to your very special gem 💎! In the meantime, my 21-yr old daughter may head down to do some disaster relief w/ an organization she’s worked w/ 3X; twice in St. Thomas repairing schools for kiddos, & 1X in Houston. Goddess-speed to you & All hurt by the hurricane! We went through a hurricane back in around “03 (?) in Lafayette- lost our roof on our 1890 home 🤷🏼‍♀️. Now we’re up in fire 🔥 country in Colorado (work brought us here). Guess everyone has their dangers these days-Thx to environmental changes 😭. Onward Progressives!💡✊We MUST save our Mother 🌍♥️

Haha so it's a family home. I want refinery 29 to understand that putting out videos in this series showcasing people who lucked out with their housing situation, (i.e. family owned, lease passed from parent to child, or have been in a rent controlled apartment for 10 years and started paying that rent before the housing crisis in America) thats not the norm for people who are watching these videos and those apartments don't actually reflect the real housing price of the neighborhoods they're situated in and are advertising. Most everyone is hurting from the rent spike w/in the past year and I think these videos would benefit from the audience seeing authentic situations that mirror their own realities. Show me an old school nola house that has been chopped up into shoebox apartments thats literally falling apart because the cheap slumlords who own it won't fix the cracks in the wall, allowing termites in to swarm at night. Show me the moldy overpriced basement shot gun where the landlord lives upstair but wont fix the mold bc its expensive and what one tenant wont stand for in a unit theres a 1000 other prospective tenants that will bc their desperate to find a home. These are both real situations i've lived in and my houses were cute af. Let me not even bother to get into the rental I lived at where my floor, so my neighbors ceiling, collapsed and we just lived like that?? for 3 months??? bc our landlord really said oops cant fix that rn??? but like both our apartments were cute. So all i'm saying is show me those apartments bc if rental prices stay like this I know I'm never gonna see a video like this one posted here and go wooowww living in xyz city is so attainable and relatable to me, a renter looking for apartments in the same city that aren't like this at all bc it just not possible unless u know somebody or ur family does.

    • @annkat100

You ARE accurate in explaining to people what the majority of the neighborhood is actually like; having to live in. I wouldn’t argue that EVER!! The only thing is-what you write could be said for nearly EVERY one of these ‘Fantasy Tours!’ And yes, she’s indeed fortunate to hv had the house ‘in the family.’ I cannot begin to imagine what that feels like-nor will my children! Ha! They WILL know what it’s like to inherit a home w/ a fully unpaid 30 -year mortgage on it!! Sell it as fast as possible- get a few bucks to divide among three. We’re in Denver where home prices for freaking BOXES OF DRYWALL are so exorbitant-ridiculous. We HAVE lived in Lafayette, LA, where housing is substantially cheaper than NOLA, more integrated, & apartment-living is much more stringently monitored. We renovated & rented out a couple old homes- for extremely reasonable prices. Truly. And ALWAYS tended to ANY complaints- no matter how small. Sadly, we lost $ on our investments, even though we’re builders, did the bulk of work ourselves, as in massive # of hours of back-breaking labor, I while pregnant. Sucked to hv made not a penny-but that’s how real estate goes sometimes. Probably needed to hv stay longer than we did- but after 7 years of my bat-shit crazy MIL hounding me daily, lying about me to others-I insisted on a move or a divorce. Probably should’ve taken the later-lol. Not lol. Anyway- I think it’s best to remember this channel isn’t like an investigative one. It’s entertainment to me! Pure entertainment. I never take it very seriously. I ALWAYS wonder HOW the eff so & so managed to get their place- which always manages to look pretty awesome- for the price they’re paying. You’re not alone. This one probably hit a nerve as it’s YOUR neighborhood- maybe (??) If they came to mine for instance- to our home- LOTS would cry out- but we got an amazing deal: a desperate “short sale”-a sick mother in a different state- who just paid for EVERYTHING for her son to get to her quickly. Then, b/c my husband/myself are builders- we easily upgraded things; from odd sources most people don’t hv access to/we NORMALLY couldn’t afford. SERIOUSLY. So it looks way nicer than our salaries!! And our monthly is probably half of everyone else’s in the neighborhood. THEY don’t know that. STILL- our kids won’t inherit it- as we can’t afford to pay it off!! NEVER!! And if we sold it- took the sweet profit-we couldn’t still afford Denver. We’d nd to move to some farm town hours away- w/ a population of about 300 white Trumpsters… then, maybe we could leave them a house-which they WOULDN’T EVER WANT-as all 3 are in mixed race relationships-wouldn’t EVER live in some crappy little RED town where everyone STILL believes the election was stolen 🤦🏼‍♀️ So… I try to not care-& only very occasionally watch these-w/ only entertainment in mind. But the REAL STORY OF the U.S. Housing Travesty?? I’m ALL TOO AWARE OF-and it makes me sad/sickens me/keeps me voting at all levels/volunteering for/donating my kids’ ‘inheritance’ to Habitat for Humanity as well as my various immigration projects; some legal & some less so. I send you my my heartfelt best ♥️🌍🥊
ps it took me over 10 years to get my bachelors degree; going 1st to SFO City College, a class at a time for years, at night- & FINALLY taking out a loan to attend Cal State-SFO full-time the final year. Worth all the time & the loan! YEAH, it was hard, & sometimes I had 3 jobs at 1X, something my irritating kids can’t imagine or appreciate. But it was what got me out of the Tenderloin in SFO, and eventually into a house 🤷🏼‍♀️ Even someone who ‘looks’ like me knows all too well, exactly what you’re saying. I hear you-loud & clear. Best of luck. Truly. Cuz everyone needs a little, along w/ all of the trying. For sure. 💕

so innacurate, Frida Kahlo had a very different view about architecture and interior design, a quick visit to the two houses where she lived in Mexico City will give you an idea...

nooo this is a restored, historical home in a historical neighborhood. original details have been preserved and everything else is in pristine condition. with 3 bedrooms, this is not an out of line price. I'm also from new orleans. and the prices are just going up and up and up in treme. great time to be a landlord.

@@da504ever Are you trying to invalidate my point considering thats where I am from and understand property value there? Also its in a white neighborhood... that doesn't make it historic nor does it make that home worth the cost. Many whites are able to remain on that street and streets surrounding due to the city choose to protect the white neighborhoods rather than black ones during Katrina.

I DID note that as well- but we cannot hold how someone speaks-especially someone who it seems travels constantly, against them. Seems sorta ugly to me- & my husband hails from NOLA- as do his parents & grandparents-& we lived in Lafayette, LA (a different ‘accent’) for nearly a decade. This is an entertainment channel, far from a social commentary or documentary channel. For those; personally, I’d go elsewhere 👍🏽✅

@@jamiep9694 Unfortunately, that's not what happening. Due to the past segregated living, banks did not let Black and Brown people loans for housing. Nowadays, it's similar but it's called gentrification. I really reccomend to revisit history books. (:
