- In this video we'll head to the graves of Henry Tate (Tate & Lyle Sugar/Tate Gallery), Henry Doulton (Doulton Pottery) and Sir Horace Jones (Tower Bridge Designer) oh and also the grave of William "Shakspeare" Which confused me a bit.
I also step inside my first columbarium where I have a bad experience.

Charles Haddon Spurgeon was known as “The Prince of Preachers” from the mid to late 1800’s. A prolific speaker, he drew enormous crowds. He is still widely read and respected.
Charles Spurgeon is a well recognized preacher among reformed Christians. So very cool for me that you walked by his grave! Love your channel

Rev. Charles Spurgeon was a very famous minister in London. 1834-1892 who had the largest Church the Metropolitan Tabernacle. I’m glad you showed his grave. His wife is buried there also. Look him up. Amazing stuff.
Walking around old cemeteries has always been a bit of a hobby of mine, I love reading the inscriptions and finding the oldest graves. My friend and I back in the 70s when we were young teenagers, spent many days in the warm school summer holidays just wandering round respectfully reading graves. We'd even take our lunch. Unfortunately she ended up in one herself far to soon, died aged 46 from leukaemia.

Tragic. It saddens me that we still cannot find a cure for illnesses like leukaemia.

So peaceful with the bird’s singing, I get a great sense of calmness watching. It’s a wonderful way to explore the people of yesteryear, the architecture & how they remembered their loved ones with the magnificent memorials.

Wonderful tour, enjoyed seeing Charles Spurgeon's grave. He is quoted many times in sermons or lectures, one of the all-time best.
I knew his great-great grandson at Uni.

My dad, nan, grandad and sister are all laid to rest at that cemetery as well as friends etc. I love to walk round there. I have a pretty good knowledge of the history of the cemetery, the famous and influential people buried there and it still fascinates me and I always find out something different each time, or from listening to people like yourself. The Greek cemetery is stunning, amazing tombs in there. The bit up the steps was the old rose garden and catacombs. They are now no longer burying people there unfortunately. I want my ashes spread with my family when I finally pass. I've always felt watched there but always at peace at the same time. Spurgeon was a baptist preacher who was born 19.06.1834 in Kelvedon exactly 100 years to the day as my nan, who was also born in Kelvedon and now rests just yards away from him (random fact you probably didn't need to know)

@@deadgoodwalks Roy Rogers and Dale Evans, movie stars back in the 50’s , 60 ish area, are buried in Apple Valley California on a mountain area. It was his property from a ranch he owned there. Beautiful place up there. They use to only let certain people be buried there. My Sister in law got permission from the family when he passed to bury her husband there, then her daughter’s step son. They actually have hollowed out big boulders and buried people in them. They have now for sometime allowed anyone to be buried there that can afford it. They do bury family members on top of each other. Now they have a beautiful chapel there, that also has crypt burials within the walls, they have those cremated urns behind glass. Some people have their urns made out to be of something they enjoyed in their lives, such as a replica of a antique car, sports car, butterfly. They are there to see like they are art. The thing is in this huge chapel there is a beautiful tree , I mean BEAUTIFUL. The lady was showing us this tree that really looks like it is growing, it was imported I believe from Italy, if my memory serves me well, in the chapel and my daughter a teenager at the time was like take my picture by this tree and was leaning against it, touching it smiling. Then the woman says you know you can be buried in this tree? Your ashes can be placed in part of the tree. I never seen my daughter move so fast, jump away from it , freaked her out lol 😂. This chapel also sits on a big lake and the lady tells us they hold weddings there. Now that freaked me out but guess to each it’s own! 😮 I thought you might find this interesting.
I used to live near the cemetery and also have relatives laid to rest there. My husband's parents are both there and a few friends as well.

When my son was born, in 1986, I lived two roads away from this cemetery. It was so peaceful. I would push his pram through there and spend time marvelling at the beautiful memorials.

They are just like us, only they don’t have their bodies anymore. This is why I call them corporally challenged! Just like living people, there are nice ones and there are evil ones at the other end of the spectrum (spectral) lol!!
@@tonysmith9005 The bible (God's word to us) makes it VERY clear that is a NO NO. They're not in the graveyard. Only their bodies (if any are left that is). We do not have to be afraid of Satan and his impersonations of the living and the dead, if we give our hearts to Jesus and stay away from all satanic activities such as séances, Ouija boards, and other activities of spiritism. It’s in the Bible, 1 John 4:1,4, NKJV. “Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits, whether they are of God. . . You are of God, little children, and have overcome them, because He who is in you is greater than he who is in the world.” It's in the Bible, James 4:7-8, NKJV. “Therefore, submit to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you. Draw near to God and He will draw near to you.”

What I read is that the cushion or pillow in the biblical sense represents when someone is about to sleep, rest or respite from worries. So perhaps it means that they are free of earthly worries and they may now rest.
Stunning architecture, it would be great to see these unique places looked after for future generations as it's part of our history. It was very fashionable in Edwardian and Victorian times to have fancy and ornate resting places. Looking forward to the next video.

What a beautifull old cemetaries You have in England. In Holland we miss this kind of cemetaries. After sometimes 10-50 years Graves Will be ‘deleted’ because there is no family in life that will pay for it !

I like the scenery of a graveyards or memorial parks, cemeteries. It reminds me that we are just travellers in this world and all of us will end there. It's so peaceful and you can always reflect how short life is and our ultimate destiny is a hole in a ground

Remembrance: Summer 1978, metal detecting, again, on the site of the Battle of Linlithgow Bridge, 4 September 1526. I was on a 'new area', where, after the battle, Knights had been buried in cysts and discovered at ground level by railway navigators employed in building the viaduct over the River Avon. The Knights, within their cysts, were subsequently re-interred on the adjacent hillside.
After a very loud signal from my old C-Scope detector, I dug carefully into the earth. Within two minutes, I was completely overcome - mentally - by a very evil presence. The feeling was all-encompassing. I, inwardly, apologised for my disturbance. The evilness continued to invade my mental capabilities.
I then quickly covered up the disturbance of the earth which I had caused, still apologising for my folly to this invisible vice-like grip. I went down the wee hill and walked swiftly to my auld MZ 250cc motorcycle, packed up my stuff and drove carefully home to my Family.
I still have a dozen or so artefacts from previous visits to the Battlefield, mercifully inert.

Hey Rab, I wonder was it was you found...the holy grail? lol. I tried it once myself but lost interest in finding tin cans. The cemeteries are a great sanctuary for the birds, I think the ones from the my Heptonstall video was the loudest I'd every heard, they could have woke the dead

What a great man of bible teaching and preaching was Charles Spurgeon. One of the great men of Protestant Christianity.
I've seen at least eight monuments which have been damaged or eroded and coffins can be seen. The spectacular mausoleum at 13.32 is for Otto Berens, a coffin is on view. The Shakespeare is Shakspeare with no E. I was fooled as well. I went today and took more photos including that tomb and have only just noticed there is no E.

You're right about being watched, those are evil spirits allover who are in their natural habitat these are the spirits of death.
As you walked around that building one could hear some kind of sacral choir in the back

I am from Sweden and there they take great care for the graves. Super organized and one of my favorite place to sit and relax.

What a strange place…beautiful mausoleums and headstones, yet some of it so overgrown and in need of repair, but others are just fine. I found that very odd. It’s a gorgeous place ! I loved that ship. I’m sorry there were 1,000’s of eyes on you, when you know only I have eyes for you 😍😂🤣. Thanks for the walk it was seriously a good one !

Dan, I enjoyed the Terracotta mausoleums. I'm from Detroit Michigan area originally, and they have large mausoleums at the cemetery on Woodward Avenue. I have never seen terracotta Mausoleum that were very interesting. Some really beautiful architecture in that Cemetery. Beautiful tour thank you so much for giving us a glimpse.

It's such a shame so much history , yet the place needs looking after, it almost looks overgrown and run down, a lot of broken resting places, shame , people love looking at graveyards and walking round them reading up on the history.
I believe the graveyards when 1st opened were privately owned but once the cemetery was full there was no more cash to be made so many owners just abandoned them. We are used to seeing local council owned cemeteries which are maintained.
Would love to know the years on some of the headstones you’ve pointed out. Thanks for an intriguing tour. I wonder if the people you sensed in the columbarium were those whose remains rest there, or those who had gone there to visit them and are now gone themselves.
Good question! Maybe it was all in my head, but I'm always honest and say what I'm feeling or if I've seen anything. I'll be back there soon for a more detailed look and I'll focus on more of the dates

What you experienced was real the cemetery is the headquarters for the evil spirits of death, don't be naive or deceived, the dead are either in heaven or hell period, this is the outcome awaiting us so I hope you believe in JESUS'S Christ because he will give eternal life to anyone who will follow him✌

It was so weird Laarnie, maybe I imagined it but I always share how I feel at the time. Yes, I try to be respectful, I'm glad it comes across on the videos. There was a lot of new internments in there with personal items and photos of the deceased and I won't show that stuff in detail out of respect for the dead and their relatives x

I visited a big columbarium in San Francisco one time. I was the only (living) person in there at the time but I didn't feel "alone" in there. I too had a creepy vibe like what you had in that one you went into! Thanks for your videos! Europe has such beautiful cemeteries!
This is an amazing cemetery .It’s obvious that work is being done to repair and make safe the tombs and Mausoleums.The work is obvious,but limited by the volunteers and of course the funding. But it’s got some amazing tombs and even beautiful headstones. The statues and decorative cruces were so nicely carved and I have never seen some of the statues or that cross with the birds on.. Should not say that now I will see them everywhere lol. I loved the Captains tomb !the carving on that was just beautifully done. It’s sad it’s a dying trade now and most of it is done by machines. Thank you for the lovely peaceful walk through this amazing cemetery .. By the way did you see the lady sweeping .I did not but heard her clearly right next to you. By the way Spirits enjoy visiting cemeteries you know? ..They see old friends and neighbours and catch up. Sometimes they can be seen or heard too..Love n Light 🥰

There is something so peaceful and tranquil and magnetic about graveyards. Obvs these folk were rich to have these monuments. In one of our local churchyards (not as grand as your rambles) there is a 14 century posh grave monument with the story of how a ploughman got killed by his Plough carved into pictures. We were shown this on a school outing in the late 70s. It's kinda macabre but fascinating. Thanks for sharing. I will share this weird experiance with you all. Back 10 yrs ago I was researching a local mill owner who had a substantial house and estate on a what's now a sports field next to were I live (now long gone) he owned cotton Mills in the 1800s and the local mill he owned is still going but his family died out in the 1950s it's believed. Anyway I was discussing him with the local historian who has a local history website. I asked where the daughter and her husband were buried (the last to live in the big house prior to its demolition and poss last family connection to the mills) he said its unknown. He knew where one of the sons and father were buried(a town 10 miles away) but not his daughter and other son (the daughter was run over and killed by a lorry in the fog crossing a road across from the big house in 1932). Anyway I was going to one of the local churchyards a few months later to put flowers on my mates grave. I do this on his birthday every year (sadly he died aged 13 in 1984 ) its in the same yard as the ploughman I mentioned and as I entered the path to the churchyards a couple of Robins were flying around and this one Robin kept making a hell of a racket jumping from Bush to grave stone and it stopped on this gravestone monument and just jumped up and down flapping and making a racket. It was indeed the daughter of the mill owner and her husband and her brother was the next grave down. I never noticed them before and the writing for some reason was on the other side of the stones to the rest of the graves.

It’s so sad that families go to great expense having such elaborate resting places built for their loved ones, but not realising that in the future, with no family left to visit and take care, they fall into such rack and ruin, which is an awful shame. They should look ahead and leave money in trust for the upkeep and maintenance of these places which most of us would never be able to afford. Thankyou for such an interesting walk. I’m also interested in your awareness and sometime sighting of spirit, it’s not to be scared of, we all go the same way. But would love to know what you see. I am similar to you and pick up voices, or even children once, but dressed in Victorian dress, but looking almost solid. I think we have some lovely graveyards in comparison to some I see over in America. Just seen one in Detroit, just breeze blocks and stacked and unkept. I've only these last couple of years realised we have moseleums ! None where I live but I saw them in America and thought it was they're thing ! 🙈 I'm now educated !
I have lived in the surrounding area of west norwood, but have never been round the cemetry, did not realise how big it was, like all older cemeteries certain areas are becoming overgrown and neglected due to up keep costs, but not to bad condition overall compared to some, hope they keep maintaining it and do not cut back anymore
I have been to a couple of funerals in the cemetery but like you I never realised how large it is.

I think cudos should go out to all the hard work put into building these mausoleums, headstones, flat grave markers etc. Such perfection. I can just imagine them working with primative tools, hours n hours, carving, smoothing, matching sides, measuring n putting information like names, verses, Biblical scriptures etc. on so many of them. Yeah, today's graves stones are pretty plain in comparison, I'm all for bringing back skilled craftsmanship.
some of these ornate tombstones and mausoleums are only about 100/150 years old and they had quite sophisticated tools , they weren't constructed 5 at the time of Stonehenge 5,000 years ago
Seems I have bags of catching up to do but just saw this one. Tons of amazing markers & mausoleums. But I had an overwhelming desire to get at that place with mowers & weed eaters. At least it looks like repairing is going on. Thanks, love the tours & you take the time to make these videos.
Thanks for your really interesting and respectful video, it’s such a shame to see the place so neglected, can’t imagine the cost of building some of those mausoleums way back then, must have been very wealthy, when you die, your body is put in a box, someone builds a house in a field and puts the box with your body in the house, lock the door and walk away and leave you there forever, may they all RIP

Well that's just it, with that one, where he peeked in the hole with the camera, there WAS a face peeking back at him! I don't think it was a ghost or anyting though, just a body, but I swear I could see a pale-face with a pair of eyes and a nose. 😳 Go back and look, tell me what you think. (Around the 9:50 mark)
You do know who Charles Haddon Spurgeon is, right? He was one of the very best Pastors of that era. So awesome. He was a follower of Jesus Christ and if I'm not mistaken was a writer as well.
The thing about graveyards and cemeteries is how loud the bird song seems.

Wow!, amazing headstones and mausoleums, why is it so grown up with weeds and grass? It would probably cost a fortune to hire ground workers to keep it mowed, or is the tall grass part of the intrigue? I enjoyed this walk, wish I could see it in person, maybe next year . Well for one thing, trimming the grass with so many monuments would be a long, involved and most importantly hand done job. The only other option would be to use weed killer which would be a travesty. Graveyards are some of the very few areas in modern cities that aren’t groomed and manicured to within an inch of their life. And because of that, they’re a haven, not only for wildlife and birds but also for plants. The long grass isn’t hurting anyone and those “weeds” are food for many creatures. Leave them be.
Ah--that 'William' is actually the family of FAKEspear--you know, the one spelled 'Shaksper', and found amongst all the Disneyland-dressing in Stratford-upon-Avon. Load of tosh--glad you didn't linger!
What isn't tosh, is your reliance on two of your six 'clair' senses: clairvoyance (seeing) and clairsentience ('the feels', heeding your emotional responses). Sad that no one appears to be doing any upkeep. The grass and weeds have taken over
Despite the disrepair, this cemetery seems in relatively good condition compared to some of the other big London cemeteries. The scaffolded area is interesting: it looks like some sort of arena, with stands at each side for an audience: perhaps it was a kind of semi-outdoor chapel for larger funeral services?
It was nice to see our son Anthony Russell mentioned in this walk. We do t get to visit nowadays

I tried to look up something about the bible on the pillow. Not much on it, however I did find a mention of the resting promises of God. Resting in God's promises. God's word being a place of meaningful rest.

I used to live in south Norwood I think I may have visited that cemetery in west Norwood I know live on the Isle of Wight which is the most haunted place in Britain I was born in Kingston around the Thames we have loads of grave yards where I live and most r old and uncared for which is sad you would thimnk there would be some sort of volunteer group that could maintain them maybe the brownies or guides ect could scrub some of the dirt of the headstones as a community badge

We were looking at a mausoleum like this on St Michael's Island off of Nice France and there was a dead man behind it laid out on the ground

In 1881 Lucy gallup and Henry (clay) gallup were living at 39 Marine Parade, Brighton with their six year old son, Henry Junior. In the census returns for that year Henry lists himself as a retired merchant. Less than two years later Lucy was dead at the age of just 35. Henry must have been devastated. He only lasted another couple of years himself, dying in 1885 at his home, Preston House, The Avenue, Upper Norwood, leaving an estate valued at £131,947 14s 9d to his 11 year old orphaned son.

William Annie and Sarah Shakspear were buried there. They are on findagrave. No mention if any connection to William Shakespeare (different spelling)

Very unique and beautiful model limbs grave sites but it needs a little bit of upkeep on the yard part the greenery
