Now here's a video I never thought I'd make! Thanks to some incredible timing of a lucky eBay listing, I was able to acquire a prototype of the cancelled Jazwares Big The Cat plush prototype! After literally not being seen by the public for 7 years, I can finally share with you guys this great plush! It's an incredible honor to own and showcase this plush, and I hope you guys enjoy this video! This video is the first in a new series I'm going to be making titled "History & Showcase", in which I showcase usually a single item that has a unique, interesting backstory and history. Those items may be other prototypes, or just merchandise that I feel warrants its own video. I already have quite a few in mind that I want to make, and I can assure you this will be a very, very cool series (which I'm sure you could imply if THIS was the first episode).

These Jazwares plushes are a few years old now, so you can no longer buy them directly in stores, though eBay and other second hand sites/shops will have them. I'd suggest searching Jazwares Werehog plush on eBay and seeing what you can find.

This must have been the biggest achievement you have made yet. If you can't tell already by taking one look at me, I'm one of the few that actually like Big, and having a full look at a cancelled plush of him makes me really happy. Thanks, man.

I work with embroidery machines, the white is from the bobbin thread. Sometimes it will show through since the bobbin thread is on the bottom of the colored thread.

I'm not sure I agree about Jazwares' figure line being one of the best. The quality is mostly pretty poor, and the scaling of the 3" ones is appalling. Fair to say that the number of characters was incredible, but when Sonic, Super Sonic, Super Shadow, Vector, Espio and Charmy don't stand up at all, even with the stands, that's not great.
I remember in 2008 or 2009, I got a Secret Saturdays 3" Owlman figure on amazon from the U.K. I was hyped since it was my favorite character in the show so I got it for about $10. I haven't seen another listing at all since 2010-2011.
I really like the looks of Big the Cat, minus his eye and ripped off belt! IDM Big the Cat, even if he wasn't the best in Sonic Adventure... he gives me nostalgia and and has a cute design. Hey, I own that Jazwares Sonic plush! I got it when I was really young, but his shoes ripped...I asked my mom when I was kid, and I don't know were he is now. Hoping to get a new one.
You could always hand wash him. You don't need to dunk him. Plushies that are fragile or with felt (that falls apart) can be washed without dunking it into water. Also the belt could be vinyl or pleather. But this is so interesting to see. I'm sorry i ramble. I make costumes and plushies so i get excited xD but they could have done big the cat as a limited plushie.
I don't think I was at the age where I was able to get sonic merch when this would've come out, or I was just getting into it. I'm just glad they had a good run since they're line is when I got more then just the games. Also loved the video!
I would have bought him actually. I remember back in the day when Sonic Adventure plushes were hitting the stores/arcades I won two Big plushes from Game Works.
I'd like to believe that instead of destroying these prototypes, some employee(s) asked to keep them. After all, if the higher-ups have no use for them, why NOT just give them to someone else? Besides, the Kenner Boba Fett prototype with projectile action managed to survive, and that was back when toy collecting was still a relatively new thing.
There's often internal reasons for them being destroyed. For example the Big plush I have was rejected by SEGA, and given that SEGA directly said to them yeah no you can not make that (from what I know at least), they probably wouldn't be too happy with some of the rejected products slipping out like this one did. So because of that, they usually destroy them to prevent them leaking out, which is a shame but technically makes sense. As for samples/prototypes of released items, I guess they just don't care about them to keep them around. There are some instances of employees keeping prototypes, I've talked with many people who do have some from their time at companies, but usually they don't get that lucky.
I think that your right about them cancelling big because he wouldn't sell but I believe there is more to it than just it not selling consider this as we all know big the cat is very powerful so imagine how much of a safety Hazzard 20 would be people would get electricuted and it changing colors so fast could cause seizures with some people

My first Sonic plush was Tails, but for one birthday, I got Sonic and Shadow from Jazwares.
