Interceptor 650 Tubeless Rims Conversion For Only Rs 5,000: Way2Speed Kit Installation

  • For those watching a video of mine for the first time, I have a custom Royal Enfield Interceptor 650 that runs on 17 inch custom aluminium rims that are wider than stock.
And I have been wanting to convert them to tubeless from a very long time.
The safest, tried and tested option that I wanted to go for was an Outex kit. Outex does make a kit for the Royal Enfield Interceptor 650, however, that kit was useless for me.
Since Outex kits are pre-cut according to the motorcycle's rim's width, and my rims are wider, I could not use the standard kit.
Outex also does not do custom kits.
So, if I were to still insist on Outex, I would have had to buy two separate kits from two different motorcycles to match my 3.5 inch front rim and 4.25 inch rear rims.
Now, an Outex kit in itself is Rs 13,500. And buying two kits to mix and match would have meant Rs 27,000 for just the kit and Rs 2,500 for installation.
That is steep. I am sure you would agree with that.
And so, I was stuck running tubes inside my custom rims.
Until, Melvin from Way2Speed decided to help me out.
Way2Speed has come up with their own way to convert the rims to tubeless and it essentially entails you applying a solution on the rims and letting it dry out, sealing the gaps between the spokes and the rims.
The video explains it better than my words here.
The kit costs Rs 5,000 for a regular Interceptor or Continental GT650 but since my rims are wider, Way2Speed sent me an extra bottle to cover the surface and I had to pay Rs 6,500 for the kit.
Still, nothing in comparison to the Rs 27,000 I would have had to pay for Outex.
I've been using this kit for over a month now and have even done a 190 kmph run with them. The tyres have not lose any pressure whatsoever.
So, the kit has been working brilliantly for me.
Melvin told me that he has installed this tubeless conversion kit in over 20 motorcycles and none have reported any failure so far.
The one drawback of using this kit that I can think of, it is applied by hand, manually.
And that means, it will never be spread as evenly as the Outex tape. Which means, the wheel will never be 100 per cent balanced. Even though we will probably never be able to tell the difference, which would be minimal, it is still something that I thought I should highlight.
The long term reliability of this kit is yet to be seen. Since it is such a critical component, I am only laying the facts in front on you.
I am neither asking you to buy it, nor am I asking you not to. I can tell you though that it is working for me.
    The rest is your call.
Melvin from Way2Speed can be contacted here for the tubeless kit: / way2speed
    and +91 88258 61835
Needless to say, this kit is not just restricted to the Interceptor 650 and can be used on any spoked rim.
I hope you found this video useful.
Thank you so much for giving me your time. I hope you have a great day.
    Cheers

Good work. The only problem with these conversions is once you need recalibration of the wheels i.e. tightening or loosening of the spokes then you got to go through the whole process again which is cumbersome. In the long run its better to go with puncture resistant liquid which can be refilled incase of tyre change or tube change and it's very cost effective and a tried and tested procedure. It costs only 1000 to 1200 for both the wheels

Like the way you made a simple and uncluttered video. Had got outex done formy Triumph Speedmaster rims. However in the last 1year it had to go back to the servhce centre thrice!
One will know the efficacy only with about 3-5000 kms done on the odo.
Suggest speak to the Manufacturer to understand how is this different from basic silicon which some here commented on. The difference in chemical composition (if any) will help people decide better

This may work for a low power bike like the RE, but rims for tubed and tubeless tires are different and doing this on a more powerful bike may just spin the tire on the rim. Tubeless rims will have "serrations" to grip the bead.

The front shocks are great and effective in the overall bike's stability.
I loved the 17" modified rims at the rear and the front. In order, to fit the 4.25" x 17" rear rim, did you change the swingarm, spokes and the hub?
Also, what are the total number of spokes, in the rear and the front wheel? Thanks, Jorge Frois

Bro this is a silicone tube which is available in the range of Rs150 to 500Rs depending on the hardness & use u can easily get it from any hardware shop get the automotive silicone that they use to stick windscreens , they have better heat resistant which will be needed to combat tyre heat generation of long drives.
Another point that i read on other comments they have rightly pointed out that if you rebalance the weel & tighten the spokes it will definitely loosen the silicon grip, even then it's cool u can do this every 10 k kms , this is a grt money saving idea if u buy silicone tube from the hardware store , under 500 + labour 😢

Great Video bro...Your videos are so informative and detailed. Can I use 3M Marine sealant for the same job? it will be more cost effective. Just not sure about the longevity. Kindly advise.

But down the line when you need to adjust your spokes, won't this process have to be repeated again?

Hi there and thx for the tip. I have a question: if the rims of the interceptor are fit for tubeless on what concerns its internal structure: the bead flange /seat / hump of a tube fitted rim is different from a tubeless rim so that my concern whether a tubeless tire will fit safely on a tube rim (as done with your Way2Speed Kit). A second question is: Does Kineo Wheels or Alpina Wheels manufacture spoked tubeless rims for the Interceptor 650 ? Understand that is quite expensive, any other manufacturer around ? perhaps in the USA ? Thanks and all the best.

Hey Abhinav, good info and thanks for sharing. Do you have long term feedback on the Outex based on personal use or anyone you know having used it? Mine are stock rims (motorcycle yet to be delivered!) and I'm heavily leaning towards the Outex kit. Cheers

    • @abhinavbhatt
      @abhinavbhatt  4 роки тому +1

Hi. Outex works like a charm. But if you break a spoke during heavy off roading, you will have to redo the process again.

Hi Abhinav. Nice mod on i650, loved it, although i have some different individualistic plan in mind. Can you provide link for wider rims that you used for your mod, to accommodate 120F/160R tires. Where i can source from? Thanks. Also, your new drive sprocket is 15T instead of stock 16T, What's the stock teeth count on rear sprocket, and what's yours modified?

    • @abhinavbhatt
      @abhinavbhatt  4 роки тому

Hi Prashant. The rims are custom made. Contact HDT Customs on UA-cam for the rims. I do not remember the stock teeth count of the rear sprocket. It is stock on my bike.

Brother there is an Engineer at Chandigarh who charges Rs 4000 per bike and seals the rim so that you can go for tubeless on Spokes wheel. He also have the set up to balance the rim but there are extra charges for it. And instead of using Silicone based compounds, He uses his specially formulated compound that doesn't deteriorate by chain lubes or oil or even heat.

This is general purpose silicone caulk....no need to pay 5k for it...available in any hardware...the down side is each time the spokes have to be adjusted after "wheel out" u may have to rw do the entire process....just like the other 27k kit....so riders it's u r call
However for silicone to make the spoke nipple hole air tight the following has to be followed strictly
1 remove all surface coats...paint powde coating etc...base metal to be visible
    2 degreasing is a must
3 the surface should be highly polished and buffed because if u have to resilicone after rectifying wheelout it will be next to impossible to remove the old silicone
4 the silicone takes from a couple of hrs to semi harden...so either keep rotating the wheel slowly so that I he silicone doesn't flow to one side or lightly run teflon tape on the silicone to avoid flow....
    Now u r done.
Last step is to install a valve on the rim....all the best
Personally I feel this is way to much of an headache....
