Former NBA player Smush Parker reveals how his basketball journey began and his experiences in the professional league. Parker grew up in a basketball environment in Brooklyn, with both his parents playing the game to some extent, instilling the passion in him from an early age. He shared how he acquired his nickname 'Smush,' which was passed down to him by his father through a family tradition. Despite not being heavily recruited and having good grades in high school, a series of connections steered him toward a basketball career. This eventually led to him playing for the Detroit Pistons, where he witnessed the infamous 'Malice at the Palace' brawl between his teammates and the Indiana Pacers, specifically Ben Wallace and Ron Artest.

My Uncle is a NBA ref and when he refed in the NBA G League in 2009 in Colorado i met Smush after a game right outside the locker room. He gave me his G League wrist bands that had the official logo sown on them. Smuch was a chill and cool dude.

Smush was ahead of his time having air Smush hats and jeans at 16 years old. Played with him for 2 years on 23th street AAU team in manhattan. Best player I ever played with. I knew he was going to the NBA at 17 when he was shooting from Steph Curry range and dunking on everyone in the Roberto Clemente tournament vs Alan Ray and Julius Hodge. He dropped 51 points. Total score was 168-169 action pack game. 1999-2000 Legendary. Wish someone had videos of the games
I’m proud to say that I beat smush Parker in a 2 v 2 lol game at Newtown HS back in 97..we had the same PE class including Villanueva…him and Villanueva stood out a lot as basketball players and not shock to see their accomplishments…

As a fan I'm disappointed in myself for making fun of Smush back in the day. I was a young kid that was rooting against the Lakers and didn't really realize how amazing it was for him to even make it as a starter. Glad to see him doing well!
