That one tear down larys's face while talking with aegon was amazing, it was subtle and felt real. That whole scene between those two was excellent, this show has some top notch acting
Larys actor really is fantastic. Arguably the most evil character on the show, but that scene was so emotional and sympathetic. And then he snapped right back into manipulation mode.

It was Larys and Otto that made me decide to actually start watching. I’m all about actors that can portray subtle menace and cunning.
Him taking away the painkiller felt really symbolic of his character to me. I think Larys believes he gets his strength from his pain, and is "giving" that to Aegon. But similarly he now seems to live his life revolved around pain, being a torturer.

Just realized that the Beesbury seat is Honeyholt, which is across the river from Oldtown. They most likely have a smaller force than their liege lord, but being able to keep a crossing might be crucial and maybe that is what slowing down the Hightower army. Very interesting from the military history pov.

1.Seasmoke is hurt from his missing rider.
2. Seasmoke knows his rider is out there too , because of the deep connection that dragons and riders have.
3. Seasmoke is anxious riding over dragonstone seeking for Laenor, and then he found a fisherman who looks like like Laenor but with black hair, and Seasmoke claim him.

I love he’s facing his demons every night, then waking up the next day having learned nothing from each one. Daemon was pretty shook this episode though.
@@MourningCoffeeMusicI think he did learn. In that last vision is seemed like he chose to respond to Viserys’s grief like he should have. In the real moment he probably just stood by while his brother mourned. He’s slowly learning the errors of his ways. I don’t believe for a second that someone like him could ever be redeemed. But it is nice to get these looks into his psyche.

I love how Daemon remembers Viserys's heir for a day lecture differently. In episode 1 Viserys was furious and wrothful, but in Daemon's memory Viserys is just sad, distraught, almost weeping.
Maybe a combination of his guilt at knowing just how much he hurt his brother but maybe also a bit of convenient memory melding, choosing to forget about Viserys's more stern and wrathful side since Daemon is *supposed* to be the strong one while Viserys was supposed to be the weak one in his mind.
Also, it's how Daemon actually felt at the time. He was grief stricken when he made the comments about Visarys' son. Daemon is seeing his brother understanding his intended meaning instead of taking it as a slight as he actually did. How much of Daemon's issues is because Visarys took everything Daemon did in the worst possible light?
I think he might be seeing the hurt and grief behind Viserys's anger that he missed earlier.

Things I enjoyed this episode: seeing baby dragons (aw so cute), Seasmoke playing chase with his chosen rider (again, adorable), Matthew Needham’s acting (not adorable 😆 but kinda captivating), the owl, and Alicent getting fish slapped in the face.

I'm glad Alicent finally acknowledges how responsible she is in her kids turning out the way they did. She raised her kids to hate Rhaenyra and their nephews. I'm sure Otto would have still tried to manipulate them somehow, but still. It's definitely telling that out of her four kids, the only "normal" one is the one that was raised half a continent away. Though I suppose holding grudges is what causes a lot of issues in Westeros.
Aemond's all on Alicent as well. She wasn't a good mother to him (or any of her children), and now he removes her from the council to focus on "domestic matters."
He's telling her in no uncertain terms her failure as a mother has earned her removal.
Alicent was a child being asked to raise her abuser's children, it's understandable she wasn't the best mother presence in her children's life.. Viserys failed his children at least as much as Alicent if not more, by pretty much ignoring them and letting them run wild.

I think Gwayne is genuinely correct that it's the place and the system at large that are ultimately at fault. None of this would be happenning if Alicent was not forced to marry the king and produce Hightower heirs. It's not that Alicent is just a bad mother, it's that a political system built on personal relationships is inherently detrimental to those relationships. Daeron wasn't raised with that pressure, and he's fine. It calls into question the "Targaryen madness" Cersei and Tyrion talk about in the main series. The incest obviously didn't help, but nobody questions if inherent faults to the political system are causing these tensions in the people involved from a very young age. Gwanye's statement calls this out directly.
Larys’s bedside chat with Aegon was an incredible scene. One of the highlights of the season imo. I was truly touched and felt a lot of empathy for these very hard to like characters. In that moment, Larys’s pain was palpable. This speech was reminiscent of Tyrion’s bastard speech to Jon Snow. Using your perceived weakness as your strength.
He didn't go to Aegon until he realized he would not be able to manipulate Aemond. Switching Larys for Otto, best move Aemond could make. Can't trust that dude

The only reason Aemond didnt kill Aegon in this episode is he knows everyone already suspects him, there are maestors all around, and threats will be enough to silence him at this point.

I think daemon also burst into tears after hearing of Grover's death, not only because of his brother but because of relief, it has been going pretty dismally for him at harrenhall, as far as gathering an army, and he must have been feeling desperate to have asked for Alys' help and hearing of her assistance, or perceived assistance is relief.
I interpreted it as him finally feeling bad for his schemes, but maybe I'm giving him too much credit 😅
I think I totally misread it, but I thought it was him being so relieved that he cried 😂 I laughed 😅

I dunno guys...when you have a really vivid dream where you're interacting with a recently lost loved one, it can be really jarring upon waking.
To me, Simon yanked him out of that real, mental interaction he was having prematurely and went straight into talking business. Daemon barely faced him and once he left, he immediately succumbed to the wave of emotions and suppressed grief that the dream helped draw back up to the surface.
It probably took all his effort to act normal and respond to Simon while still emotionally reeling. Once the door shut, it's released.

My favorite scene has to be Larys at Aegon's bedside. It just makes so much sense for him to be empathetic towards the King, and Matthew Needham's performance in that scene was exquisite

that scene with alicent and her brother was some absolute cinema. They said absolutely nothing to each other while still conveying so much emotion and understanding for each other. The most direct thing said was alicent wishing her 3rd sons kindness was also something aemond and aegon had.

Seasmoke might be the less expensive dragon to animate since his model is so similar to Daenerys' dragons. I don't know how CGI works but I think that "reusing" that same design could save them some money

@@gandalfdengra5580 if you mean it was shoehorned in feeling I'd gently disagree. The scene felt super touchstarved to me, like both women felt overwhelmed and shaky with emotion when just hugging, I think it was pretty well done as a lesbian/bi awakening.
I reckon Rhaenyra started Steffon Darklyn with Seasmoke because Seasmoke seemed lonely, and therefore might be more open to a new rider.
Also, I really enjoyed seeing "cripples, bastards and broken things" but ~~eeevil~~ between Larys and Aegon. GRRM really does like reusing themes and characters in different situations!

@@blueblack2 My problem with that scene is that even if Laenor is dead, Rhaenyra doesn’t know that. If she thinks he’s still alive, then she knows that nobody would’ve been able to claim it. @@lukasmadrid1945 cause Rhaenyra “kind of forgot” that a dragon can only have one rider at a time. They made a change from the books (Laenor not being dead), forgot about the consequences (Seasmoke can’t be claimed) and instead of touching that the writers are just ignoring that and acting like nothing happened. Not even a mention of that.

You can't win w/ guys like you because if they had a scene somehow showing that laenor died in essos it'd be dumb, and if darklyn got killed by another dragon people would complain about lack of canon.There are issues w/ the show but i don't see this as one

Their wooden poles/sticks are also kinda pointless, are they going to whack a dragon with a stick? Maybe it has a symbolic use or something or purely cosmetic/costume purpose but still
@@user-u7u8b im pretty sure its just like part of their standard equipment and typically they use it to just kinda gesture the dragons around. the dragons seem pretty chill with the dragonkeepers. I'm guessing they're kinda like animals and zookeepers, comfortable around them because of the exposure but dont have a deep special bond that lets them fly on a dragon like the riders do.
That bedside scene with larys and ageon was powerful stuff. I was thinking he was gonna kill ageon but he definitely wants him as king over ameon.
And I wonder what might befall aemond now that he has crossed larys

at no point did I think Larys was going to kill Aegon. It was clear after the humiliation from Aemond he was going to come back with a vengeance and Aegon is the most powerful ace up his sleeve.
we kinda saw in previous episodes that larys wants aegon on the throne becasue he can control him, larys even stopped stupid aegon when he wanted to go to war, so he don't hurt himself (he stopped him once, the second time he didn't and aegon got burned)
i was hoping they would kiss and bond some more over their twisted legs. team aerys, etc, etc…
I really don't want to see our favorite villain Aemond die anytime soon. Such an interesting character. Please keep the actor around for as long as possible.

I've really liked these past few episodes in terms of characterization for the side characters, i think that everyone's relationships and struggles are being made more complex
I think that Seasmoke was going to allow Stefan to ride him until he said "I've done it." He saw the dragon as a prize to be won - not a partner to work with hand in wing.
It looked like Seasmoke got the ick from him. Tbf I got too, the way he was walking towards him was odd 😂
Jason never got his dragon, so he's going to catapult lions at team Black's to show House Lannister doesn't need them.

I think the "black ink" in the tapestry is actually what happened to Sunfire when Meleys ripped open Sunfire's chest. I don't believe it's actually blood (which is what everyone believes), I think its a chemical reaction that the dragon's organs make in their chest to produce fire. It's like hot oil. That's why the soldiers in rook's rest screamed in agony when coming in contact with the assumed blood. That is also why Sunfire wasn't able to fly when Vhagar spewed fire at her, she was covered in her own "bio-oil". I also bet that the "bio-oil" is apart of making Valerian steel.

People conplaining about the pace: what’s the rush? Some of us are here for more than dragons burning shit. The interesting thing about this world and these stories is the people and the politics, the personal and the spiritual. There’s plenty going on in every episode. This story needs a slow burn to be fulfilling. That’s what left most of us so disappointed about the end of GoT.
other than that this episode explored different themes and if I may say so was all around great
I’m enjoying this slow burn approach! Daemon and Alys are throwing down in the river lands with the Weirwoods, dragons creeping up on riders, Aemond being black or white, Larys is feeling personally attacked, so I know some shit is about to go down! Alicent is losing her damn mind, Christin is traumatized, Gwanye is throwing down serious truths, and Rhae and Mae are just two women planning murder! Popcorn ready baby!
I am all for taking ones time - but I still wish every episode had more of a ‚flow‘ to it. The last 2 episodes seemed like they were merely exploring characters- with barely any plot points moving forward.
Also god damn - I wish they were faster in producing these. It’s such a shame we had to wait 2 years for like a an 8 episode season.

I’m very conflicted on how the the kiss between Rhaenyra and Mysaria went. The moment makes sense but the timing was very creepy to me, especially right after Mysaria came out about how her father assaulted her. I can see it as them both comforting eachother in defiance of their trauma which I’m sure is what the actresses and writers were going for but the timing was a bit wrong in my opinion.
I would add that mysaria was kissing rhaenyras neck before she did anything, is a bit weird i agree but also felt kinda real. But completly understand what people are saying
Being sexually inappropriate is also a truma response. For me it made sense in every way
I just wanna point out though that kissing the wrong people at the wrong moment is an important part of most people's love lives. Like that guy I kissed at 31 and stayed with for two years? Yeah. The conversation between Alicent and Gwayne was interesting because of how honest Alicent was, sharing her insecurities about her abilities as a mother with him. I can’t remember her ever being that honest with Otto. It shows that she is close with Gwayne.
I think she's realized how frayed all of her relationships with her family are and she's trying to reconnect. Talking to gwayne, who is annoyed with her because he thinks she started this war while being insulated from the violent consequences. Talking at Aegon who is so fucked up because she made him king (not really totally on her but she feels responsible). Praying with Halaena, who's already forgiven her for the situation she's been put in. Trying to encourage Aemond to put his abuse behind him, something she never helped him with when he was a actual child. She's trying to fix things she feels guilty for, because the system that relies on personal relationships to function has destroyed them in the process.
Is it strange that I really love that Alys is just a healer. Like she just like fixing people in the most ruthless way possible?
Like, you can’t fix age so she did the best thing she could for Grover and is forcing Daemon into therapy because he REALLY needs Therapy.

While theres some things i absolutely have issues with like what theyre probably doing with rhaena and the "dragon in the vale", i really enjoy the characterization of both hugh and ulf, theyre like two different sides of the everyman coin and both relatable as hell. Much better than fire and bloods portrayal of them. So far atleast

I feel like a lot of people expected HOTD season 2 to be this massive war season, where each episodes had the characters fighting each other, armies clashing, characters dying everywhere/getting wounded on the campaign trail. Which I, for one, am glad they didn’t do.
Instead we got a more political, methodical, administrative perspective on the civil war, with battle tastefully sprinkled in. Where to deploy the forces, contentious debates on how to handle the logistical challenges with the blockade etc.
While the pacing can feel inconsistent, like we go from the slow, methodical nightmares, to those council meetings. This show continues to keeps my interest, and the story, acting and writing keep it steady. Especially the acting, Jesus.
In Fire and Blood, I think it’s implied that Rhaenyra was bisexual in the books, gonna have to check me on that information.
I agree but I do think it's dragging quite a bit and not a lot of these supposedly BIG moments in each episode hit very hard. The riot in this episode was very watered down. The music made it sound epic and tense but... it wasn't particularly.
I wish that Daeron's introduction is epic but other than that I don't really care about the rest and that's why I have no problem with how the show progresses
@@krissuyx Probably budget and time constraints. The battle of the gullet was to appear in season 2 initially, but they pushed it to season 3, so that’s probably why this season feels a little different.

My interpretation of Hugh's scene with the dog was him questioning himself if he was desperate enough to get this meat, dog meat, for his family.

My friend who is a show pleb saw that scene and asked me " is he going to smother him with a pillow or something? " and I really had to bite my tongue on that one.
No matter what the other viewers say, I really really liked this episode. It was fun to see the Queens run, the conversation between Larys and Aegon, the Seasmoke scene (gosh I fancy that boy, felt sorry for Lord Darklyn), Alyn and Addam scene, Mysaria-Rhaenyra conversations, Alicent and her brother catching up, and more. Also, I kinda like Lady Arryn. She looks so cool and powerful. Anything I missed?

I noticed in the intro not only the update to the tapestry sequence but also the visible sparks and fire and smoke sounds. History written in both fire and blood in the intro and the dynasty beginning to go up in flames.
I still think. Balerion didnt die of old age, but died because of that weird parasite he got when he disappeared for a year with Aerea. Its said he had wounds that never really healed after that, and thats when he seemed to really slow down and not fly as much. The parasite probably just took time to kill him since he was so big and strong where aerea did so quickly to it

Wounds/parasites taken in Valyria
Balerion and princess Aerea returns to Kings Landing in 56 AC. Balerion is then the first dragon housed in the dragonpit. Fast forward to 75 AC princess Alyssa goes to the dragonpit specifically to claim Balerion. Quote “it was all the dragonkeepers could do to persuade her to take another dragon” unquote. This was not a hi and bye conversation. Princess Alyssa was not convinced when the dragonkeepers said Balerion was too old and slow. Why would I say that? The dragonkeepers tell princess Alyssa that surely she would want a swifter mount. She ends up claiming Meleys. And Meleys IS swifter than Balerion. But in 75 AC there’s another dragon in the dragonpit unclaimed. That’s Dreamfire. Would Dreamfire not be swifter than Balerion as well? But Alyssa chooses Meleys over Dreamfire. Why? Because Meleys is swifter than EVERY other dragon. That ultimately is the only way the dragonkeepers could persuade princess Alyssa to take any other dragon besides Balerion. Not because Balerion was too old and slow. Fast forward to 84 AC. Princess Saera gets caught at the dragonpit trying to take a dragon. (I do believe she was going to claim Balerion. She does directly compare herself to Maegor.) Jaehaerys is pissed. And he says “Saera with a dragon”. So that must not be a good thing. Then he says “would Saera have taken Balerion”. What’s really funny about this quote is in 84 AC Dreamfire is still in the dragonpit. In 84 AC Dreamfire is still unclaimed. In 84 AC Dreamfire just so happens to be 52 years old. The exact same age as Vhagar at the start of the conquest. Would Dreamfire not be comparable to Vhagar not in raw strength but at least in fire power? I would say yes. Vhagar provides the fire for Aegon I’s funeral pyre. Vhagar’s fire is called “common”. Dragonfire ain’t common fire. So I have to assume that means Vhagar’s fire is common amongst dragons. Even when Dreamfire was just 22 years old Rhaena threatens to make another Harenhal out of Storm’s End to Rogar Baratheon. And it does seem like he took Rhaena at her word!So 52 year old Dreamfire is comparable to Vhagar at the start of the conquest. Jaehaerys never says Balerion is too old and slow. And Jaehaerys doesn’t even bother to mention Dreamfire. Because in 84 AC Balerion was still that much of a FREAKING UNIT!! In Jaehaerys’s mind Saera plus Balerion was more of a threat than Saera plus Dreamfire a dragon comparable to Vhagar at the start of the conquest. So that’s Alyssa, Jaehaerys, and possibly Saera all seem to believe Balerion had healed up from any wounds taken in Valyria just fine. (I would even say probable in princess Saera’s case.) And none of them say anything about Balerion being old and slow. So no lingering effects from Valyria.

Real bummed there's no Nettles. Rhaena and Nettles aren't interchangeable, they are interesting mirrors of each other, but they aren't the same character.

Just because it's implied doesn't mean it is true. The book is unreliable, which means you shouldn't take everything it tells as right.
Is Daemon stupid? He drank some strange liquid from Alys, and then complained TO HER that someone poisoned him. He doesn’t seem to suspect her at all

He knows she’s a true Queen. Alys is showing him the softer side of power, something Visarys knew. When the Gods fuck you up with dreams, you’re to be greatful that they are choosing you for a duty. Most people aren’t bad people, but they also aren’t called to a higher purpose either. They’ve been spared a role in destiny. Daemon has been chosen for something bigger than himself.

I think Alicent doesn't consider her brother's and Crispin's trauma from battle because she was raised to believe that that's what men are supposed to do. They go to battle, they wage war, while women are taken to court to take care of sick kings and birth babies. I think she didn't pay much attention to Crispin telling her about the burning soldiers or she event might have thought to herself, "well, that's what you're supposed to be good at, Cringon. Deal with it." This system at place hurts all of them, keeping them from real connection.

I think its clear that what got the knight killed by Seasmoke was his sudden overconfidence like "ha yeah this dragon is mine now." Its right after his line where he says "I did it" like hes beaten the dragons will or something. Its not his fear because that's respect, its when he takes the bond for granted that he gets toasted.

Rhaenyra definitely wanted it, to an extent. She says as much in episode 8 of season 1, when she mentions that :"I thought I wanted it, but the burden is a heavy one" to Viserys on his sick bed.

Alyse didn't assassinate Grover Tully. Alyse is just a greenseer like Bran and is seeing the future; telling Daemon to quit being a whiney bitch, continue his redemption arc, and just wait for Episode 9/10.
I kind of like (or at least understand) the way that Alicent "misunderstood" Viserys 's last words--because it actually does give her more agency in the story; since she does get clarification from Rhaenyra later on, but she doesn't change her mind or tell anyone that she was wrong or support Rhaenyra's claim.
1. it changes her flaw from being "evil" to being wrong and stubborn (which has a better message imo)
2. it allows Alicent to slowly begin to realize that she wields no power in the patriarchy she supported
(instead of having her speak out immediately in support of Rhaenyra, and realize her position at the start)
The Sept scene had me going from internal panic to near screaming. "No. No. No, no, no nononoNONONONONONOTHER! NOT HER! NOT HER!"
It was so obvious what was going to happen, which made it even worse to be right; luckily the expected subversion of expectations was a fish, and not something horrible.

Daella Targaryen was a daughter of King Jahaerys who did marry an Arryn. She was the mother of Rhaenyra's mother.
I think this episode and the whole season does a good job of showing the humanity of the more evil characters like Daemon, Criston, and now Larys. The show is wasting so much time glazing Rhaenyra to the point we're probably getting another "The Bells" and people will lose it when Rhaenyra does something bad and it will seem like it's out of nowhere.
I see these comments a lot, but weren't the starks in game of thrones also portrayed as "the good guys"? You need people to root for in shows or people will lose interest. If rhaenery was just as evil as aegon/aemond, what's the point?

I definitely agree. I'm actually not a fan of how absolutely psychotic all the characters are in FaB; I think the humanized versions we get in the show are way more realistic and interesting than the outright lunatics GRRM imagined; but I definitely want attention paid to how Rhaenyra *isn't really a good person.* Yes, the smallfolk starve, but why is that again? I really wish Mysaria had framed the food boats as something like "hey do the right thing and feed your people" just for Rhaenyra to dismiss it and be like "don't care about them, BUT it would be good propaganda."

I feel like if he’d been more bold in taking the saddle when Seasmoke seemed to be offering it, he might have at least got a little bit of a ride before he got buckarooed off and then toasted.
