I find it really hard to be critical of either of these two this morning. They both do a good job in really harsh changing conditions. I like the fuji colors.
They are effectively both great. I would take the Olympus since the XT4 IBIS is still messed up and the stepping exposure problem. Also, Olympus Pro M.Zuiko lenses are world class optics.
Colors? Eterna is less saturated than other Fuji profiles. It’s not too hard to switch to Velvia on the fly to get your shirt to match the Olympus. There is nothing you can do today about the IBIS or warp on the very wide lens.

i was able to tell right away which one was the fuji, not because of the stabilization or lack thereof but because it always looks to me like the "tint" is off slightly.
At first, I thought the over-saturated colors were fuji in velvia mode. The exposure and dynamic range gave it away though. In this video, the oly looked like the fuji with velvia mode. Eterna is less saturated
I actually liked the Olympus more. Better stabilization, color, exposure, autofocus. Fuji is coming out with a firmware to fix that, lol. I have been hearing that for every issue Fuji has the past 3 years. Never fixes anything. I agree Sony and Canon are better overall. I would like to see what Nikon can do now with their latest firmware. It’s now Peter Gregg approved !
The Olympus is underrated for video. They might be fairly basic in the video department, but what they do do is done well. The stabilisation is gimbal-like.
The Olympus looks better, as it is much more smooth! But I also would not buy it, it is too bulky. I wanna have something with a similar performance in a Sony A6600 Body...
Time to go to a different reality where the physics within that universe makes it possible lol. The reason it has that performance is because it is bulky and it has a smaller sensor :(

Video AF on olympus bodies, generally needs olympus lenses for good af. With panasonic lenses stills are fine, but video hunting is a thing, especially on contrast only bodies.
If the X-T4 is anything like the X-T30, you can fix the stepping in the exposure by fixing the aperture and leave the ISO in Auto to handle the exposure (with a variable ND filter). Then it will be the holy grail of the perfect camera! (99% of it anyways...)👍
Olympus was sold yesterday :-( You finally find the perfect camera, and things get dubious for it. You must stop this madness, or there will be no cameras left!!
I think for the handheld, self shooting (vlog) use case, yeah Olympus. Fuji, the user needs to be more involved, more for "filmmakers" since the output can be so good, but you can't rely on the automation to do it for you. I think the aperture stepping you see on Fuji, might be a lens selection issue. Like the 18-55mm or any of the small F2 or the 16mm 2.8 don't do that. I wonder if the 1.4 Viltrox's for Fuji do that.
Well said. However, all of the Fuji lenses do that stepping. I have all of the F2’s, the 18-55, and the 16-55 2.8. Even when you zoom on the constant aperture f2.8 - it does weird stepping too. I really do like my XT4, but I find myself reaching more often for my Canon 90D. The 4K is not as crisp, but it focuses better, and it handles exposure so much better.
Fuji has exposure stepping even with fixed aperture when you are on auto iso. They don't have a clue how to fix that since years. It doesn't matter what lens are you using.
Ah I see I only have an old xe1, I don't use it for video. I use a Panasonic zs200 for video lol. That's strange, if it still steps when the apeture is locked, So it's caused by iso changes? weird. Just stick with the Olympus, the try the em5 III lfor lightness lol.
In the first 30-50 seconds I could tell which camera seemed to retain detail and dynamic range when pointing towards the Sun and back... my guess is both cameras handle sensor saturation and exposure correction quite different as seen where the Oly sky looks damn near white and the Fuji sky turns blue and you can see clouds... for both cameras I would be more critical in my settings in varied lighting situations... I always set my shutter speed, dependant on my fps, and my aperture... I set my exposure for the the lighting conditions along with assistance from ND filtering... I do not zoom in or out via a zoom lens while recording video footage... If vlogging was a top priority I wouldn't pick either of these cameras... they are both feature-rich and pricey for doing vlogging, but they can do it if needed.
Get the OMD EM1 M2 you get just about everything you need, especially with the 3.0 firmware update. The IBIS is the best on the planet and the Autofocus uses phase and contrast detection. I think the autofocus is smoother than the A7III (I own it as well). You can get a new one for cheap and its weather proof. Get the 12-40mm standard zoom 2.8 pro (weather sealed) and you have a beast of a light weight monster for vlogging. The Pro series Prime lenses are incredible but are expensive. The standard zoom can be had for a good price on ebay. There are also the great MSC lenses that are so light weight (non - weather sealed) with a variety of focal lengths to cover every need.
I've seriously given zero consideration to Oly as new system but I'm starting to look. I have an Oly Pen with pancake 17 f/1.7 (my first m43 cam) and it was horrible in low light.
After "Toneh" found the AF of the Olympus EM1MK3 not good enough to be mentiond in his lastest Video of VLOG Cameras - it is so good to see your Videos - thank you for that! By the Way, both Cameras did a good Job!
That autofocus just isn’t right on the T4. The Toneh Northwood was also having difficulties. It’s not a problem on the 3. Fuji clearly released this cam in a bit of a hurry for the Olympics that never happened. I used to have an Olympus. It was my first camera that had manual settings etc. Damned thing was built like a tank. They still are. It’s be nice to see them get out of their rut. Would be even nicer to see them do APS-C, or even better, a sensor the same size but with a 4:3 ratio still. You’re lucky to have both mate. They’re good cameras.
X-T3 will have the same problems as the X-T4 with the lenses selected by Mr. Toneh... every single lens he chose is decent for stills, but are pretty old and not recommended for video use due to their stepping motors. Even for stills those lenses are pretty slow to AF. Their newer lenses are better options, but not enough bokeh for Mr. Toneh. Oly's are nice, but they sacrifice too much light gathering capability for my liking... auto exposure does not seem to be doing anything during the harsh lighting scene because it was way blown out! I was wondering if Live ND was utilized? Actually, not sure of any settings applied in this vid.
I feel like right before Olympus died they decided to break free from the secret camera company pact and made the perfect camera. 7.5 stops of stabilization insane! , great autofocus, flip screen, great colors, AND this thing can shoot in prores raw in 12bit with an atomos v.
In all seriousness (like this channel always was and will be!) after watching the first 5 minutes, my answer is: either. I mean - if these were not in split screen, side by side, vast majority of people would not make a difference or wouldn't care. If one tell people it's the same camera, they would believe. Having said that, from all the bashing Olympus cameras have for video, and all the praise late Fuji ones have, the results are surprisingly similar. Yes, it depends on the user too, but do you think majority of users would have much more expertise than this youtuber? I kinda doubt it.
In regards to the Exposure Stepping on Fuji. Even if you lock ISO and exposure with full manual, If you use a Fuji zoom lens - the stepping still occurs. Even with the 16-55mm F2.8. The F stop is not changing, the ISO is not changing. Nothing is changing, yet it still Steps as you zoom. I have noticed that when I use Canon lenses on the Fuji with the Fringer adapter there is NO stepping. This problem is with the Fuji lenses.
@@ahtong5416 ... I'm afraid I see it, too. I did not see any exposure correction in the Oly... the sky looked almost white instead of some blue with a few clouds. Wondering if Casey used Live ND for any of the scenes...
'Out of camera' performance goes to Olympus for stabilisation and colour. AF, however, is a more complicated issue, as Philip Bloom's recent and excellent video shows. It depends on matching lenses to bodies (eg., you used mismatching Leica lenses on Olympus), the AF features themselves, such as Tracking and Face/Eye options, tweaking Sensitivity and Transition speed, whether the system is all Phase Detect, like Canon DPAF, or Hybrid Phase and Contrast Detect, which perform differently according to lighting/exposure/shutter. The Fuji is disappointing even when using Fuji lenses. The tests in Toronto parks under direct sunlight one minute, and walking under shade the next, with brightly-lit leaves and buildings in the background, are a nightmare for cameras. The best colour and AF I've seen recently, is Sony's FX9 with the new S-Cinetone. Let's hope it comes to their new A7..
What the hell, I was sure the Fuji would smash the Olympus in this test, but it the Olympus looks amazing this time. Honestly, the Fuji's IBIS looks like you lost a frame here and there. Olympus's problem is it takes forever to adjust to exposure changes, but it does adjust to a good level. But in stabe and AF and overall vibe, Olympus is better. Just compare when we first started seeing Olympus on this channel and it looked pretty awful vs. what he's getting out of it today.
You're spoilt for choice. They are both good cameras but we won't have a perfect camera until it can read your mind and know what you are thinking. Is focus limiting available on either - would negate the hunting problem present on both in the board meeting. The Olympus does remarkably well against the larger Fuji sensor, but ultimately the Fuji will win - noise and dynamic range. Big selection of lenses for mft and the IBIS is compelling - Fuji 8/10, Olympus 8½/10. Good video that balances the technical reviews by others.
Nice content. I did expect the XT4, but after my testing, it is really sorry I have to say. Just only talking about the auto-focusing of pictures taken, as the speed to compares my EM-1 Mark II ... I bought A6600 for my Vlog/Video. hahaha
Hi Casey. Great comparison. How are other Fuji film simulations compared to Olympus ? I am curious how Provia or maybe Pro Neg Std (with setting Highlights and Shadow on -2) compares when it comes to dynamic range. Those two profiles have nicer colors and especially skintones than Eterna in my opinion.
The Micro Loser sensor is easier to stabilise than ASPC. XT-4 is handling the exposure changes nice and smooth whereas Oly isn't doing anything. Overall it's obvious the XT-4 is in it's own league. 15fps with AF, 14bit raw files, rivals canon FF in low light and tons of video options! 4k60, 10bit, slow mo and all. The IBIS is the best in the APSC class of cameras.
yeah that's weird my X-T3 too looses me more than at the begining.. ( it seems .. ) could be the new firmware ... :s but the blacks are more accurate in fuji that's how I recognize one immediately ;)
I wonder if the high shutter speed can degrade AF performance in video -- on either camera? Could it make it more difficult for the camera processing to grab/track items to focus on?
wow! In my oppinion, the two best cameras so far. Tough choice, since they are both really good, but that Oly Ibis...man, smooth as eggs! Still the best Ibis around, hands down. I prefer the Olympus overall. I was thinking on getting an E-m1III...now i probably will! P.S: You gotta try the m.zuiko 12mm f2 on the E-m1 III Cheers!
If you where using the eterna lut on the Fuji it drops the contrast and can turn reds more orange. Also the X-T line is made for photography the X-H line is the one they have said will be video orientate one so the X-H1 might be a good thing to look at because the X-H2 is confirmed but nothing else.
Glorious colours, and the picture both those primes gave was really pleasant. Good times for content creators looking for a new camera. The Fuji's high contrast B+W profile was extra immense, maybe it was better lit/framed in that scene too. Is there a way to up the contrast on the Oly B+W profile?
It's so weird. Your exclusive out-of-the-box Fuji review looked amazing. Colors were great. Super responsive auto-focus and contrast change. Not too shaky. But now...? wtf?
I have an Olympus Tough camera, fantastic little go anywhere camera. I am interested in Olympus just for the rugged weather sealing; but sell my a73 for micro-fourthirds? Can't imagine I'd be happy about that.
I’m wondering if you might do a comparison, just with Olympus - EM10, EM5, and EM1? There’s such a big price difference, is there really a difference though for vlogging?
Pretty sure that when making turning pans the image will get more "jittery" the higher the shutter speed. Just for grins, take *ONE* camera and in a shady area on a sunny day, test out the same turning pan movements but with various shutter speeds -- same FPS, adjust exposure each time to match exposure (aperture/ISO), but start with the 180-degree rule shutter speed and go up from there to faster shutter speeds. I am guessing that the smoothest pan of the tests will be with the 180-degree shutter.
@@ookiemand -- I did some tests on my Panasonic G85 and the "stuttering" was definitely worse on the higher FPS rates (with IBIS off or on, OIS off or on), so then I experimented with forcing the shutter speed up and, all other factors being as equal as possible, it did increase the stuttering as well. I'm just not going to say definitively that it is the same issue with the Olympus or Fuji -- but I would be interested to see the results of testing.
Man people probably think, theres the guy again walking with the camera on a stick 😂 but honestly its great content! You are probably burning every cent on rentals for cameras and lenses 😭

I feel like right before Olympus died they decided to break free from the secret camera company pact and made the perfect camera. 7.5 stops of stabilization insane! , great autofocus, flip screen, great colors, AND this thing can shoot in prores raw in 12bit with an atomos v.
They did not die, they respawn.
Olympus looks great, the skin tone look great
In all seriousness (like this channel always was and will be!) after watching the first 5 minutes, my answer is: either.
I was so sure that the better one would be XT4 and then you revealed it to be Olympus haha....
Fuji is over rated and the Olympus is under rated
Me too, but I don't think the 18mm f2 is a great performer compared to some other lenses
Did you start filming in 360p after a while. Went weird. Still loved the video. P.S. cover your mouth when you sneeze 🤣
Olympus is far better 👍
0:50 The Fujifilm handled the highlight-shadow transition clearly better.
A Fuji fanboy grasping at straws. Lol.
@@ahtong5416 ... I'm afraid I see it, too. I did not see any exposure correction in the Oly... the sky looked almost white instead of some blue with a few clouds. Wondering if Casey used Live ND for any of the scenes...
@@ahtong5416 Look for yourself and I'm sure you will see it.
YOu look attractive on the Olympus and I can't believe I said that.
Thank you for this! Will you be recording a comparison in low light situations?
Finally you got a hair cut... well done!
I don't know about other details, but indeed the colors of em1 video looked better.
The Olympus looks better
I'm sorry, but as always (except for vs the Sony zv-1), the Olympus easily looks the best
Whichever is the cheaper is the best.
Olympus🧡
Nice content.
I did expect the XT4, but after my testing, it is really sorry I have to say. Just only talking about the auto-focusing of pictures taken, as the speed to compares my EM-1 Mark II ... I bought A6600 for my Vlog/Video. hahaha
Hi Casey. Great comparison. How are other Fuji film simulations compared to Olympus ? I am curious how Provia or maybe Pro Neg Std (with setting Highlights and Shadow on -2) compares when it comes to dynamic range. Those two profiles have nicer colors and especially skintones than Eterna in my opinion.
the olympus looks really good
Any update on xt4 now? Has the autofocus improvied now?
Olympus E-M5 Mark III or zv1 for vlogging? Thanks
Almost died on the Fuji - Olympus conversation 😭
Is the stepping thing for fuji correctable via firmware? Seems like it would be.
Yes it can. At least on the panasonic gh5 it did.
Isn't BOOST for the additional battery pack features that come along with it?
I like how Olympus has better colors although everyone praises the Fuji Mountain.
Hey man, i cant remember where i’ve seen you before but was it from a movie or a tv series?
Love your show!
Please reply!
wow! In my oppinion, the two best cameras so far. Tough choice, since they are both really good, but that Oly Ibis...man, smooth as eggs! Still the best Ibis around, hands down. I prefer the Olympus overall. I was thinking on getting an E-m1III...now i probably will!
P.S: You gotta try the m.zuiko 12mm f2 on the E-m1 III
Cheers!
Fuji Xt4!!
If you where using the eterna lut on the Fuji it drops the contrast and can turn reds more orange. Also the X-T line is made for photography the X-H line is the one they have said will be video orientate one so the X-H1 might be a good thing to look at because the X-H2 is confirmed but nothing else.
XT3 was better than the XH1 in every way for video, I tested both. XH1 was never for video, Fuji said it was the more rugged option.
Glorious colours, and the picture both those primes gave was really pleasant. Good times for content creators looking for a new camera. The Fuji's high contrast B+W profile was extra immense, maybe it was better lit/framed in that scene too. Is there a way to up the contrast on the Oly B+W profile?
Fuji colors top notch
Holy cow this dude is insanely hilarious never mind the camera review lolz sub'd for support!
I believe the boardroom meeting... since Oly and fuji shared xd memory card technology until 2009.
It's so weird. Your exclusive out-of-the-box Fuji review looked amazing. Colors were great. Super responsive auto-focus and contrast change. Not too shaky. But now...? wtf?
Different light conditions
I have an Olympus Tough camera, fantastic little go anywhere camera. I am interested in Olympus just for the rugged weather sealing; but sell my a73 for micro-fourthirds? Can't imagine I'd be happy about that.
WHATS YOUR GERBALS NAME? HE LOOKS HAPPY LOOKING OUT FROM YOUR ORANGE T SHIRT.
It has to be said, props to Olympus.
It's also because of the IBIS has a hard time with fast pans.
Hmmm....I liked the look of Fuji much more. The transitions were subtle enough
Black and white Fuji way better than Olympus. More cinematic. Olympus kept focusing on bg
You should buy the Sorricam from Potato Jet. That way you could hold three cameras at one time.
Is the sensor on XT3 or XT4 change the color science from the XT2/XH1? It make think again to upgrade from XT2...
No...
Man people probably think, theres the guy again walking with the camera on a stick 😂 but honestly its great content!
You are probably burning every cent on rentals for cameras and lenses 😭
With OLYMPUS your tshirt Looks RED 👍🏻💪🏻
