My Black UK parents taught us kiddiwinks, that should an AUTHORITY figure stop you:
▪︎ Keep an open posture, maintaining eye contact
▪︎ Answer their questions, but do not elaborate or say anything that may incriminate
▪︎ Remain calm, be polite and respectful. Do not lose your temper and start raising your voice, displaying irritation or anger and start waving your arms about. It will go bad for you.
That Indian bloke started to show irritation, which got that custom official's back up. Travelling is stressful when one is on one's own; he was travelling with the wife and kids - and they are obviously muslim. As a muslim person, he should already be aware that customs are particularly scrutinising brown muslim people. Think NINE ELEVEN. So, by showing irritation, this Brown man helped hand a reason to be turned away. His incorrect declaration just made the official refusal that much easier.
The world is not fair and it is not going to change any time soon. It is worth following guidelines and to take strict precautions to obtain a positive outcome. 🇬🇧👑🇬🇧

I hate to say this way but they clearly want to get away by using the victim card. The officer was not necessarily rude but not exactly polite either as when he's suspicious he needs to act differently and firmly to get honest answers from them. Passengers clearly had different plans than just visiting based on their luggage or wrong answer to an imp question. Once while flying from London to Newark I ended up having a similar pakistani family of 6 with kids next to me who occupied the entire row. They were so noisy & kept bothering other passengers including me. Finally a white American woman had enough and got up and very politely asked the mother to please keep it low as she can't even sleep or relax. The mother's immediate response to shut her was: "we know why you are targeting us just because I'm in a hijab!" That American lady didn't have any answer other than sitting down after saying no! These guys really use the victim card when they exactly know they are wrong or after getting caught!

I was surprised the sniffer dog wasn't given a toy as a reward. That's pretty standard in my experience.
The American turned back from Canada should have only needed to declare fully to the US border officers all the ammo. All of which is perfectly lawful for him to own in the USA.
Canada of course is very different, you must show up with the proper forms filled out in advance and expect a very hard time if anything exceeds their regulations.
