yeah seems bout right. seems like atleast once per session atleast one person consumes, intergrates, grinds against something they shouldnt cause they had no idea what else to do. sometimes all three, and not neccessarily in that order either.

Technically, following the actual rules of the game, that's not how the spell works. Since depression is a state of being and not a command.
But there's also the rule that literally any rule in the game can be overruled by the dungeon master, so if your dungeon master is cool with it and thinks it's fun, then yeah, it works. Which is THE greatest part of DnD imo.
Sure, there are rules, but we're all just here to have fun, so don't let the rules get in the way of that

@@MrSuperTeenGohan If someone did that at my table, I would probably just point out it needs to be an order and proppose "depress" instead of "depression".
I think it's good for novice players to be pointed out when they missunderstand some rule to help them get used to both reading and understanding what the rules say instead of getting used to do things ignoring the rules, but I also think it's even better to help them find the way to do what they want (or at least the closest thing to what they want) following the rules instead of just saying "no, this isn't how this works so it doesn't work".
Either way is fine, if I wasn't DMing I would probably let it be since it isn't game breaking in any significant way, but I prefer to leave the "any rule can be overruled" thing for situations where the rules are unclear, when they are causing an argument or when someone tries to use a spell or skill for something that makes sense even though it's not specified in the rules of said spell or skill.
@@garethvila5108 I would personally also not really let it work this way in my own campaign, but I also recognise that I tend to be a party pooper with rules, so I try to be more lenient as long as it's enhancing the experience at the table and not breaking the game.
In a campaign I wouldn't allow it, because it sets precedens for further into the campaign, but in a one-shot I'd point out that it's not how the spell would properly, but go with it because it's just a one-shot.
As for turning depression into a command, I think I'd look for a better word than "depress", since that doesn't really (in my opinion) translate to "become depressed". It can just as easily be "cause depression". I'd probably go with the command "despair", as that (in my opinion) achieves a similar state, and is an action that inheritly must affect oneself.
As for anyone else reading this, who thinks I'm taking the fun out of it by being technical and specific about this: this is part of what I personally find fun, and I only indulge because it seems people are willing to discuss the technicality. I still believe that the way to have fun is different from table to table
Picking up the first animal you see and adopting it is the most DnD thing one can do.
I adopted a goblin that jumped my group and we took hostage in the first session. He's called Dexter and the whole party loves him cuz he is cool as hell

DND interests me because I want to experience this but I am also incredibly uncreative and struggle with roleplaying (mostly if the character is especially different from myself)
The goblin in the back when the peeler attacks was like “Oh, there he goes again”
Fun fact my first session of dnd my character (a half elf if i remember correctly) just had a feeling from perception that people were watching us while we were in the woods, so i used a flaming arrow and shot the trees around us, and killed like all 8 or so vigilantes that were definitely going to attack us, everyone was actually really impressed cause as mentioned this was my first run, in fact our groups bard asked me if he could write a song for it, i said sure, and next session he actually came back with a lyrics sheet and his guitar and played us the song, he actually let me keep the paper too, it's still tucked away with my character sheet if i remember correctly

one of the things our DM always does is gives the NPCs celebrity lookalikes so we got a quest from george clooney, stayed at a sketchy inn run by danny devito, found a zombie that looked like dehydrated adam driver, fought a sorcerer benedict cumberbatch… it makes going through my doodles of the campaign so much sillier
With the opening of the quest starting with a sheep bursting into a tavern with a Scroll of Speak with Animals, I legitimately thought this was going to be them playing the one-shot adventure "The Wild Sheep Chase", one of my favorite one-shot adventures for parties that enjoy some chaos. Was surprised to see that didn't seem to the case at all.

the fact that a dnd party exists with my childhood favorite animation channel, the streamer that i'd watch for hours daily during 2020-2021 lockdowns, the guy who did the improved romeo and juliet performance that i watch at least monthly, and the cohost of my current favorite podcast is a full circle moment that i wasn't expecting. like who would've thought that my favorite creators from such different parts of my life would somehow all be friends with each other

Hope you have many more adventures, my resolution for New Year was to finally start my campaign this year after the years I've been trying to work up to running it with my friends/D&D group.
This is the most sane dnd campaign. Also I love that most adventures start with the party having literally no reason to go along with it yet they do. Even better when they dont even know each other but choose to risk their lives for eachother anyway. In my current campaign we chose to solve the mystery of the village simply because there was a mystery and we were there. It has nothing to do with our personal goals.
I love that this was Jaiden's first ever DND session and yet she pulled off the most pro-gamer move ever with the whole "DEPRESSION!" Command spell followed by the disguise self spell as the depressed enemy's estranged wife. Brilliantly done!

My friend in high school once played DnD, and he managed to attack a Boss, cutting off his nutsack, and making it into a coin purse. All on his first time playing!
I love the fact that Jaiden's character has almost nothing to do with this storyline, she's just here for no real reason and gets a lot of story beats going just cause she's bored. I'm living for it.
I watched the vod of the actual campaign. There was actually some backstory stuff with Zoot's patron and the wand (Her character's class was a warlock), but it seems she cut that out of the animated version for time constraints.

As a D&D player, this was 100% accurate to how a campaign can go. While yes, Mark getting acid-blasted in the face was the funniest part, the best part about it was how you included Slimecicle and Ranboo's reactions to it with Jacob's shocked face, because sometimes the reaction is the funniest part of what happens.
Yes, reaction to it matters the most, and it was a legit tactic to deceive into getting a free hit, let alone acid breath (almost looking like Jaiden's character was throwing up to the Manager, and their reactions made me have a good chuckle too XD)

@@genericname2747 what she might be referencing though is that decades ago people were actively bullied for geeky hobbies like D&D, so many players actually kept their games a secret. PLUS there was that whole "Satanic Panic" going on where the Christians were losing their minds. (With the 80s it was D&D, with the 90s it was Pokemon, yknow. It's all supposedly demons & evolution and stuff). So it was a lot of people's dirty little secret to spend their afternoon as an elf.
Geek stuff gaining traction in the mainstream is something that's happened within the last decade or two, relatively new in its run.

Yeah, i decided to join a dnd group with my friends(half human half animal, or humanoid characters) and created a Tortle named master Oogway. My first session we fight an owl bear. then beat it without anyone dying. We won because my friend said “dice go boing boing” the dropped the dice and rolled a nat20

Yesterday I did my first round of DnD:
First thing we did, we encountered a water elemental, and we adopted it. Then we had a custody battle over it, only for it to chose someone else, and then I got ambushed by skeletons and I dodged their attacks like I had ultra instinct, we fought a Slime Boss, we yeeted our water baby into it, it absorbed the slime, and became a big boy.
Then at the end, I yeeted one of my party members in the ocean.
Ok the whole depression command, turning into his wife to approach and blast him at point blank range is the most psychopathic plan of attack I've ever seen in D&D

Hello it’s me that one weirdo who commented 6 days ago just found out we have a very over powered character in our party that can manipulate time and space and he’s a cat (side note my monk accidentally hurt his brother in law but he doesn’t know that ) but yeaa idk what’s going on with my party now but in the next few sessions we will be getting another op person who’s from another dimension and he’s one of my oc 🙃

One of my favorite experiences was about a goat named Gertrude..
So my party and I were fighting some cursed scarecrows for a town outside of our city. We were using a goat as bait for the scarecrows and after, I decided it would be a great idea to feed this dark magical hay to this goat. Then she developed a psychic scream along with bright red pupils. It was amazing and she became my familiar and she would fight in battles with us. HOWEVER- last session it was discovered by our newest party member, Remus, that Gertrude was in fact possessed by a demon. Apparently, I opened a portal to the underworld of sorts and when I fed Gertrude the cursed hay. It came through and possessed my beloved goat. ALSO- apparently I UNKNOWINGLY signed a contract, the contents I do not know- but if I die before the contract is up he will take my soul and I will forever amuse him in the underworld. However- another plot twist. My in-game character, Faelyn, knows none of this because the demon inside Gertrude threatened Remus if he told anyone. So only Remus, the newest member, knows that my beloved goat is actually a demon who I signed some sort of contract with.
THEN we stumble across a seerer who tells me BEWARE THE DARK ONE and ONLY YOU CAN SAVE THEM. Then he promptly passed out and we put him in an invisible cage until we were done with what we were doing..
That was our last session and now I will not no more until sometime next month. 😭
Update- her mouth is now an abyss and she drains life from those she bites… also she died…
But we did a dark ritual with an itty bitty human sacrifice so she’s back 🙃

@grimrobot2059 technically it can't really do that because the spell she used was command. The spell only takes effect if the word can be used as a command like "HALT, STOP, GROVEL, RUN" and "depression" isn't really a command. But Charlie is a cool dm so he let it go because he's chill like that.

Me and my friends made a version called doodles and dragons where you sketch out what you want to do, roll, and depending on what you get you draw your position that you wanted to be in or not and the dungeon master is called the doodle master instead

In one of my first sessions, our group yelled "shit" in elvish while the sorcerer casted a thunder speel and then I (an air genasi) used my power to float surrounded by my party imitating a religious procession so I basically tricked a village to think I was their god.
My favorite part is that you can definitely tell when someone rolled a Nat 1
Paul is genuinely such a funny character, i love Alpha's decision to just have a disgruntled former employee be in the midst of this fantasy adventure. I hope we get another session with him and the other two characters!

you can 100% play dnd like this. dnd isn’t all about just murdering enemies. you can be friends too! my favourite character i’ve ever played was a pacifist who tried making friends with everything.
