    I ran the left hand synth through a vocoder to get that breathy/chorus quality on the Montage, maybe a slight noise layer through a chorus along with the synth might produce the effect.

      @themusicslayer6969 Thanks for your comment. Although the original soundtrack plays in the background, the sounds created on Stage 3 are very close. You can hear just the Nord keyboard as I break the sound down later in the video. It was a fun tune to do!

      Thanks @Steve Batty! You rock and have always been so supportive over the years - thank you for that. 🤘🏻So, here in the U.S., it seems that timeframes range from May through July 2023. In the U.K. however, many early orders have already been fulfilled and have reached those lucky customers! Not sure why that is. I assume it has to do with shipping overseas (versus via air?) But I really don't know why here in the U.S. we have to wait a few more months.
      I ordered mine via Sweetwater (of course) because I love the 2-year warranty it comes with. For those reading this, please feel free to use my affiliate link to Sweetwater above (below the video). You'll pay the same price, but you'll be proud to know the affiliate funds help support the channel. This works for U.S. customers only.
      Steve, drop a comment if you can once yours arrives! We'll celebrate together! 🎉
      P.S. I ordered a Nord Piano 5 to hold me over in the meantime as I'm planning a course for that board too. People have been asking so, it's time to get one going for that too... 🎹

    When I saw them around 1975 or 76 they had all ARP synths onstage. Also one of the guitar players also played keys so one guy could play organ while the other played synth for layered stuff like this.

      Thank you @Thoma Jani for validating my point about how this will likely take two keyboard players to pull it off. Great info!

    • @rickanderson9360
      @rickanderson9360 Рік тому +1

      I never did see them but in at least one live vid, JY (James Young) is doing the intro lead, not sure what synth he was using.
      I believe the synth used for that on the album was an Arp2600, while the main lead sound sounds like the Oberheim (2 or 4 voice, can't recall) Dennis used for leads all the time.
      I used to play this way back when, you can do a decent job as one player--what really helps is to have splits or multiple keyboards ready for the sounds you might use. At the time I had no good organ sounds so I just used the same poly synth sound for verses that I used in the intro...nobody threw any rocks or rotten fruit so it must have worked out ok :)

    • @MyKeysToMusic
      @MyKeysToMusic  Рік тому

      @@rickanderson9360 I think for 95% of the audience listeners, you can probably get away with using the same synth for multiple parts as you did without fear of tomatoes. 🍅 Thanks for the info about the synths used. I never did see Styx live, but that's on the bucket list. Great music and wish that Dennis was still performing with the core group.

    Fantasic and really helpful! Thank you! While I have a Nord Electro 5 (not a Stage), I will be most likely playing this song and solo on my MODX and now have some idea how to find similar sounding patches and layer the individual sounds together.

      Hello @Mr Martinez Ah yes, a Prophet 5 - that makes sense. Thanks again for your suggestion. It was fun to learn the intro to this song and part of the solo. There is actually sheet music for this here with the solo transcribed - (affiliate link): amzn.to/3UqCvAX

      @@pjburke131 Neat! There is a surprising amount of synth sampled/sounds available for the Electro (and Nord Piano) that I think most don't realize are there for the taking. Glad you found this and took advantage the OB-X sample.

    Great video, also would you be able to make a video about music theory and how to learn to play piano?, because im a beginner and I don’t know any music theory but want to learn it

    • @MyKeysToMusic
      @MyKeysToMusic  Рік тому

      Hello @Thomas Whitten thanks for your request. Luckily, we live in a day in age where finding online instruction for how to play the piano (and music theory) is easy to obtain. As such, I've focused my energies instead on sound design, music appreciation, and learning how to operate and connect Nord keyboards from a user/musicians standpoint. I've not focused any part of the channel on learning how to play keyboards or anything to do with music theory or things like that. Besides the thousands of videos here on UA-cam that can teach you how to play the piano, there are also dozens of free and paid Piano apps you can get on your mobile device to assist you with all this. There has never been a better time to pick up the keyboards - there are just so many available resources out there compared to 40 years ago. Good luck!

    I think the dirt is more organ distortion... than synth distortion. The part you mentioned not quite liking. Also still can't find anyone playing the left hand organ under the right hand - what you call "strolling part"... there is either chords or a 6th down from the F# - Starting on a "A" in the bass. But thanks for at least mentioning it. Great job on sounds.

    Its fun to watch you do tutorials on songs I have covered in the past--and see you do the settings the "right" way! LOL I had just taken your online course and was doing my best back in the day. I got through the gig and it sounded really good, but it could have been better. Right now I am working on "Riding The Storm Out." I seem to be playing a lot of songs that require the patch to do a "scattering" kind of thing with the sound waves at the very end of the phrase. Hear the siren do that thing at the end? Can the NS3 do that? It starts at about 00:09 ua-cam.com/video/L6_Sm4b5HX8/v-deo.html

      Interesting, I'd only ever heard (and I prefer) the live version. My band does this on request as well and with my new (used) NS3 I just picked up I need to program a good lead sound for this.
      I'm not sure exactly what you mean by the scattering, what I hear is that it starts thinning out around that point. That is probably the resonance of the filter being adjusted, either manually or over time via envelope or lfo. It might be both adjusting the cutoff ("freq" on the NS3) and the resonance, just mess around with those and I think you can get that same thinning out--assuming that is what you are referring to!
