This is definitely the most spot on cover on UA-cam. It sounds exactly like the real song.
Thanks for watching!
Thanks for watching!
Thanks! It was a fun challenge, glad you enjoyed it!
Awesome cover. You nailed the tones too! Impressive!
Nicely done sir ! This is how a tutorial should be. Thank you so much !
Well done Christian!! Nailed it......... Note for note!!!
Thanks man! Always wanted to play this one since a child. I’m glad the guys suggested it. Finally forced me to learn it
Awesome!!
I had a go at this for the first time last night, got pretty far with most of it. The rough spots are really concerning sound switching, and a few really fast parts. Thanks man you helped a lot!
Glad it helped!
This is fantastic! I have always wanted to learn how to play this on the keys! Thanks for posting this
Totally nailed it!!! Amazing job!!!
Amazing! Wish I had your skill!
This is awesome, great video and spot on.
This is great , it helped me learn this again as I learned this as a kid (with a tape player lol) and now was able to again. However, I noticed this is from the new version and its much slower. I liked the old LP faster version myself.
Correct, as we all played the song parts during Covid away from each other, we picked a current modern live version from 2019 to play along with for timing to sync up. ua-cam.com/video/srHPx2ZUI2s/v-deo.html This video was the original project that spawned the keyboard tutorial after we isolated the keyboard video Christian sent us.
Great cover man ! I love that song
NICE 👍 TIME TO GO PRACTICE 😉🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘

Welcome! Thanks for watching!
Super great. .. I have an OBX emulator, but I cannot find any help with how to set it up for this into. I am amazed that there aren't more instructions / maps / whatever out there for getting this sound. Sure would like to see how to set the sound
OBX emulator- I’m jealous!
All in all, it’s a pretty easy synth sound to get close enough to. This is what I did here, maybe it will give you a place to start:
First off, set the performance mode to MONOPHONIC. It won’t sound right if it’s in polyphonic mode. Start with a straight sawtooth wave from your oscillator(s). Set the cut-off frequency close if not to fully 100%. (It’s a bright timbre).
For envelope, take just a bit off the attack off by setting attack to maybe 5%, but play with attack until it sounds right. 0% Decay, Sustain 100%, and just a hint maybe 5% release.
Most important is to get the portamento right- just a hint to get that glide effect.
That’ s pretty much it. Hope it helps and thanks for watching!
@@cjheaford Thanks.. I just have my mac hooked up with Mainstage and the Sonic Projects OP-X PRO-II. But... i think setting that thing up is still over my head. :)
What is the instrument or sound used for the keyboard or synthesizer?
Dennis DeYoung used a layered (multi-tracked back then) regular Organ and Sawtooth synth patch during the verses, so that’s what I did here too. The organ on my keyboard is a factory preset with no alteration, and the Synth patch I made from scratch to try to match the original as closely as possible. The synth patch for the monophonic solo sections I created using a basic sawtooth waveform, backed off the attack slightly, and added a tiny bit of portamento. Portamento is the “sliding” from note to note rather than jumping in steps.
dude, pls play Grand Illusion
I can do it for you, but it’s hard to put this band together. We all recorded our parts to a click track long distance during Covid. I doubt I could get them to record a whole song again now that they are back playing live. Would you want just the keyboard part to Grand Illusion or the whole cover band?
