    Really excited by this one, Marc - I'm a massive Queen fan! Played on a Roland Jupiter 8 originally by Fred Mantel, a keyboardist who worked with Queen at the time; I thought at the time that Brian May had played his guitar through a synthesizer-type device, but no, I learned subsequently it was purely a synthesizer part.

      Hi Mark! So funny you mention this because I was wondering the EXACT SAME THING while I was recording it. And Brian plays it so well here (ua-cam.com/video/aKhdrtZsxGU/v-deo.html), that I thought for sure they had wired him up with MIDI and out it came. Interesting to know that it was in fact performed on a synth and not just any synth, but the famed Jupiter 8. Great piece of history here Mark. Going to pin the comment because I find the history of things like this fascinating and I think others will too.

      @eddydizon7174 Hey Eddie. Thanks for your comment. Truth be told, what Queen used on the original recording is likely very different than what they use today playing live. So, I'd encourage you to do more research if you want to ensure what was used on the original recording. For example during a keyboard tech interview, it was mentioned that a Korg Kronos was used to replicate various Queen sounds as the central keyboard. However, that keyboard was released in 2011. The original song, was released way back in 1984. According to Chat GPT (and this needs to be double checked), a Yamaha DX7 was used on the original recording. The DX7 was released in 1983 so that lines up.

    Great work again Marc, I was going to mention the decay setting but someone else beat me to it! A nice authentic sound, looking forward to playing it live!!

      Thanks Stewart! I wish there was a way to "edit" videos once they are on YouTUbe. The only thing we can do is "cut" things out. Can't replace a video unfortunately. So, we live the comments/description regarding any corrections after the fact. Enjoy!

    16:33 I agree it sounds more like a pitch bend on the track. What I did was I turned the synth Vibrato amount to 50 cents instead of the default 25 (‘sound’ setting (SHIFT+SOUND), page 3/11). Not sure if this is true to the record, but to me it sounded closer.

      Great idea. I wish that the vibrato speed and depth settings were program-based rather than global-based. I can see an argument for both, but there are many times that I want my vibrato rate set differently depending on the program I'm looking to create. It's not that hard to change on the fly I guess but still. Thanks for the comment!

    Is this program possible for Nord Stage 4? Thank you, I really like your videos, I learn a lot.

      @santymarrero7382 Hello Santy, thanks for your comment. I don't have this sound available via UA-cam, but I do make it available for download in my professional online course called "Master the Nord Stage 4" found here: www.mykeystomusic.com/courses/master-the-nord-stage-4

    Hi, great video, thank you. Is it possible to do this on the nord stage 2?

    • @MyKeysToMusic
      @MyKeysToMusic  3 роки тому +1

      Hello Markus. It should be possible yes. If you follow along and mimic the same concepts. There is nothing particularly unique about the sound that would prevent you from doing it on the Stage 2. In fact, if you want to make this a tad easier, you could download this version here on the Nord User Forum: www.norduserforum.com/nord-stage-3-programs-ns3p-ns3pb-files-f32/i-want-to-break-free-t16042.html
      Then import that into the Nord File viewer (I talk about it here): ua-cam.com/video/1vgHlBPLeH0/v-deo.html That will help you decipher the settings from the Stage 3 which will help you with the Stage 2.

    Hi Marc I am really enjoying your videos on the Nords. I play in a cover band and trying to decide between the stage 3 and the electro6d. I dont intend to be creatives with synth but am looking to download samples for well know songs eg Queen. Are samples such as" I want to break" downloadable to both the stage 3 and the electro6? Many thanks, Martyn

    • @MyKeysToMusic
      @MyKeysToMusic  2 роки тому

      Hello, @Martyn Fidler If your budget allows for it, get a Stage 3. It will give you two sample/synth layers and you are going to need this and more when you are playing in a cover band. You may even need a second keyboard at times. Also, there are a ton more songs for the Stage 3 already pre-programmed versus the Electro in the community (and on my websites). On addition, you may have noticed that the song "I Want To Break Free" requires a pitch stick. The Electros don't come with a pitch stick or mod wheel. If you want more details about the two boards, you can check out my comparison video which you may have already seen by now: ua-cam.com/video/av3GxXakeaM/v-deo.html. You can find all my free and pro courses here when you're ready for that step: www.MyKeysToMusic.com Best of luck with your decision!

      Hi Ivan! Happy to feature your program here on this video - hope you don't mind. Your creation is the star of the show on this one. My apologies for not introducing you a bit more prominently in the video as a long-time subscriber and contributor. I just looked you up now and you have quite a few comments here on the channel over the years. Many thanks - and keep up the great work! 🙏

    Hi Marc, great video as always!
    A minor correction - I believe in 17:28 you mean 36 seconds and not 36 milliseconds (there would hardly be any sound if set to 36ms).
    Keep em coming :-)

    • @MyKeysToMusic
      @MyKeysToMusic  5 років тому +1

      Hi KidCrippler! Yes, you are correct. I think I had milliseconds on the brain leftover from the .5 ms on the attack setting just prior. Good catch! I should have you proof my vids prior to release! Thanks for watching. 🙏
