- Michael Dewayne Smith received a lethal injection at the Oklahoma State Penitentiary in McAlester and was pronounced dead at 10:20 a.m., Oklahoma Department of Corrections spokesperson Lance West said. The Rev. Jeff Hood, Smith’s spiritual adviser, joins "Banfield" to discuss the execution.

Dude murdered 2 ppl. Eye for an eye
The Bible does not teach an eye for an eye. Just saying…
And of course the State and the Courts are always 100% correct..?
@@BrandyinIndyit doesn't teach murder either
It happened in 2002. If there was evidence to overturn his conviction I think they would’ve found it by now
@@Yodels85 conviction is not in question..the State violating the Constitution in both text and intent is a huge issue.
What was lacking humanity was what he did to his victims. Tired of this woke bs, always crying for criminals but never their victims.

It's not actually woke BS the oldest Christian churches don't condone the death penalty . It's a huge hypocrisy to be pro life but pro the death penalty
It is never about the victim 😮
@@OneQueenB You are showing your ignorance.
@jeffreywingham I’m confused. What does “woke” mean and what is “woke” about this??? The man is a spiritual advisor who doesn’t believe in the death Penalty.
How cruel and usual was the crime? Crocodile tears for the perpetrator where are the tears for the victim?
Outstanding comment.
He didn’t kill in self defense…he didn’t kill someone that had wronged him and it wasn’t an accident.
I’m sickened that your show would give him this much air time with even a moniker of sympathetic light.
Modicum not moniker
ALL life is precious...
And now remember the real victims, their tragedies are really HEARTBREAKING and LACK HUMANITY:
Janet Moore (41) and Sharath Pulluru (22)
"It’s believed that he killed Ms Moore because he was looking for her son, who Smith thought had given his identity to police. Pulluru was a convenience store clerk, who Smith thought had disrespected his gang."
Astonishes me that people have compassion for murderers when they had none for their victims!
People who were murdered have compassion for them but none for those the victimized? Did they victimize them before or after they were murdered?
@@YMadubuike24YOU misunderstood. It makes perfect sense.

How cruel and unusual was his victim's death? By the way the Consitution explicitly allows for executions as a sentence.
Well… he definitely lived way longer than his victims ..
The constitution does not define the death penalty for murder as cruel and unusual punishment. That preacher is a false teacher and a false christ, who opposes Christ. The very bible that is the foundation for his religion calls for this.
The Bible that says Thou shall not k*ll ?
Actually, it is the first one of the ten commandments that we should follow. I thought that is why the pro lifers wanted to control women's bodies. I'm a Christian, but I'm just saying the man isn't in the wrong about what the Bible says.
Yep!
Wow dude, read the Bible. Christ would have traded his own life to spare this man. You cannot be a Christian and support the death penalty.
Neither Michael Dewayne Smith nor this news caster had one bit of sympathy or attention or humanity for the the victims he murdered! The media only worries about the murderer! Give less time to the convict and more to the memories of his victims!
Thank you.
The media is only interested in ratings
Ratings is the goal of the media
Heartbreaking? what of the victims and their loved ones?
Come on News Nation you're better than this.
He wasn't the victim here
I'm sure whatever he did to get there was also heartbreaking and lacked humanity.
Well I’m sure his crimes were cruel and unusual. May his victims loved ones now find peace and strength to move on.
Come in this room we have your reparations ready. April fools
I don’t think the purpose of the death sentence is about teaching people not to kill, but about ending the life of a person who would continue to do more harm than good if left to live and those whose crimes are so handouts that even if they never do wrong again they don’t deserve our tax dollars to support their life in prison. What I don’t understand is how some serial killers rot in jail and some people get the death sentence seemly fast. The viewers of this clip have no idea what happened to lead to this guys conviction. If he kidnapped, tortured, and then killed people, then yes, I think it was justified to get the death sentence, but if he got in a fight with someone and it escalated to a death, then I need to know how the law thought he should die.
Please read a book.
he was high on drugs and killed 2 people and stayed in jail for 20 years before his execution ... he killed a mother(41) because he thought her son had spoken to the police about him ... and killed a convenience store clerk (22)because he thought she had badmouthed his gang ... he also stuck to the narrative that " he didnt kill anyone because he was on drugs and doesnt even remember being arrested"

But the two performers put on such a sad face act.. they talked slowly and tried to portray the typical usual as if he was a true stoic warrior. You didn't fall for the dramatic performance?
The prison system is more cruel.

I guess for people who don't agree with the death penalty until we are in the families shoes we won't really know how we'll feel if our loved one was take away. We all have opinions and that is just that opinions and we are all entitiled to it but with the death of a loved one taken away from us in such a brutal way we just can't speak for those grieving the lost of their loved one in such a horrific brutal way.
Many friends and family of the victims say they do not feel closure or peace after witnessing the execution of the killers
As yourself why he was there.
What about the victims? You forgot about whom these criminals killed?
life for a life and he took 2, god bless America
Has an innocent person ever been executed? If so, it invalidates capital punishment.
A few weeks ago I read about a black 12 Y.O. kid who was executed in the 1940's or 50's and it haunts me to this day. ......The white father probably killed the girl but this black kid was blamed......He couldn't see and attorney or his parents......It was worse than the Emmitt Till case.......You would have to be a serial killer or bomber where more than 5 people were killed for me to think the death penalty is acceptable. Also they would have to show no remorse.
@@karenmbbaxter Thank you for mentioning him. His name was George Stinney. He was only 14 when he was executed by the state of South Carolina for a crime he didn't commit. And, as you mentioned, he was a child. I too heard about the horrible injustice committed against him a few months ago, and it's a big part of why I'm now anti death-penalty. We must never forget his name.

more innocent persons die awaiting their trial than on death row. so by your logic it invalidates locking people up in jail until their trial.
also more innocent people wrongfully convicted die behind bars. so by your logic it invalidates locking people up after sentencing.

The sadism in a lot of these comments surpasses any sense of righteousness that may exist.
Fwiw, 2% of counties in the US represent the great majority of death row cases. And, not surprisingly, those are also evangelical hubs. Even Jesus must appreciate the irony.
What were you blocking out in the upper left corner of the screen?
I agree - no excuse for death penalty. Sitting in prison for the rest of your life away from society where you can’t hurt anyone else is enough.
I used to believe in the death penalty until I became a Christian. Now I view in from a different perspective.
200 years ago when people committed crimes sending them to prison the way we do now wasn’t an option and so it was handled differently. We have no excuse today - the people involved in sentencing him to death will one day have to answer to God for their choice.
If God can forgive and change Paul - he can forgive and change anyone.
You’re so sensitive.
I'm a Christian and I still believe in the death penalty. You know why? Because God still does. Hell is a death penalty. The law put him to death just like the Law of God put Jesus to death on the cross for your sins. He had 20 years to repent and believe the Gospel. There is a Spiritual Death penalty and its called Hell. Maybe he escaped that?
