  • A bourbon that isn't driven by heavy caramels and vanilla. A bourbon that is blended for a point of difference with stocks of the distilleries own now. A wonderful addition to your daily sipper cabinet.
High West was always abit of an illusion to me. Not easy to find in the UK, some very unusual titles and art work that is reminiscent of wanted posters from the late 1800's. I've been a fan of their rarer options that I've been able to get hold of, but at £40 a bottle, the American Praire Bourbon is a must have. Cheers!

This bourbon is interesting. It’s very divisive. There’s people that love it and hate it. It is one of the more fruit forward bourbons I’ve had, it’s almost a mixed berry bourbon. I think that’s what makes it very unique and really stands out. I personally love this stuff and I think it’s very underrated.

Only thing I've had that gets close to the sweetness of this is Rowan's Creek. Those blueberry and grapefruit notes in abundance.
It's very underated and is now a shelf staple. Weather has warmed in the UK and it's working a treat. Cheers!

I had no idea where high west was until I walked by it after moving to Utah. I keep forgetting I can probably go there and try stuff I haven't had yet. It's pretty full throttle, lively and organic and often hot but I do like what they come up with.

Full throttle is the best way to describe that place.

Love me some High West American Prairie! Most of the high west line is fantastic! Cheers.

Loving most of it so far. The Double Rye felt a little 2D after the Rendezvous. Still high quality stuff!

Thank you for walking us through this. I have not had this particular High West, but everything I have tried of theirs is good liquid. Cheers!

Happy to hear you have easy access to HW now. One of the early examples of American blending done right. They've changed a lot over the past years, especially with the older Barton in there getting replaced by lesser juice, but most bottles are still very enjoyable. Rendezvous rye is a house favorite, and some early batches of Bourye and Midwinter Nights Dram were superstars. I don't particularly seek the Praire or Campfire these days (can't make out that third bottle on the shelf), but I'll gladly accept a pour when offered :)

The current range has really impressed me. Found the Double Rye a little flat in comparison to others in the range, but I've never enjoyed the full range from any whisky makers.
      High West all the way!

This was the first High West I've tried, and for what I paid for it, I was pretty happy to have it! Don't understand some of the negativity I've heard about it, really agreed with many of your tasting notes

Glad you have easier access to High West products -- I'm definitely a fan. I've had several of their whiskey's -- Double Rye is really good, Rendezvous Rye is excellent, Campfire -- a slightly odd combo of Bourbon, Rye and Peated scotch. The American Prairie is quite good and priced right (around $40 where I'm at in the States). I also have an unopened bottle of Bourye in my cabinet. I'd love to get my hands on a bottle of a Mid-Summer Nights Dram.

MWND was one of my grail whiskies, so happy when I finally got it. They've really impressed me, I can't wait to see what else they bring out.

Their barrel picks are amazing if you can get your hands on one. I'm hoping they do some UK exclusives in the future as they're quite expensive on the secondary market. Yippee Ki-Yay is fantastic too but sadly discontinued.

@@WhiskyWednesday Nicholls and Perks still have a few bottles of the High West Prairie RESERVE bourbon (chicken on the label) circa. 2013-2014. I got one last week apparently they've got 4 or 5 bottles left. Would be super interesting to see you do a side by side review.
