That's the same obstacle that keeps me from doing one of these yours with Eva/Harper.
The collaboration we’ve all been waiting for. Thank you to both channels for teaching us science, history, culture, language and amazing food. I know I’ve said it before but I’ve learned so much.
As soon as I saw castle Nuovo in the background which is very familiar to me because of the Many port visits during my naval Career. I do not recall the names of many of the restaurants and trattorias I visited. but I did try most of them in the area around the castle and port. My favorite non pizza dish is definitely Parmigiana Di Melanzane, and just about any pasta with clam dishes. There was an old family lunch restaurant near the old Navy Exchange before it moved up to Gricignano di Aversa. They made the best Neapolitan Lasagna I ever had! thank you both so much for bringing back wonderful memories 🙂
absolutely insane guys! our jaws dropped watching this. we are also big fans of Vincenzo. eva, please please please show us how to make the pasta allo scammaro when you guys get back to the states. best wishes. Jim and Laurie Canciglia.
Eva & Harper, I can't begin to tell you how much i LOVE these videos from Italy!! Realistically I'll probably never visit Italy and you've given me a beautiful vision of where and how my parents lived before coming to the U.S. Thank you so very much for all the work you do every week---I adore both of you.
@@carlo9063, Bridget did NOT say she refuses to go to Italy, but that she may not be ABLE to go. Her parents came from Italy, and she gave compliments to Eva & Harper for showing what might have been their day-to-day life.
I see Naples kind of like an italian New Orleans. Lots of soul and heart, amazing local food, a fascinating history and world-famous local traditions and there's always a close reminder of how at risk the city is and despite that, the people remain stubbornly resilient. BTW i loved that you finally met with Vincenzo, you should do more of these collabs when you come here.
Yay! My two favorite Italian food YT channels in my favorite Italian city. So great to see Eva and Vincenzo together. Thanks for the collab and also for showing everyone how fantastic Napoli food is, especially the non-pizza cuisine. When I was working in Toscana (Lucca) in summers I would frequently take a 6 pm train down to Napoli just for the weekend to get away and eat. I'd get there around 10 pm and go straight to my favorite hotel and restaurants. Another highlight is the aperitivi between 5 and 8 pm in the wine bars of the Chiaia or Vomero districts.
ah my beloved Chiaia district. I would take the Metro line from Bagnoli over to Piazza Amedeo, grab a gelato, wander to the west down to a tavola calda/pizzeria run by a dear freind Pasquale. He introduced me to pizza made with potato flour, besciamella, and other simple stuff.. I would eat away for an hour, downing a bottle of Lancer's Rpse', end up fed and tipsy and then would either grab a movie at the tiny cinema nearby (first encoutetr with an Almodovar movie - Law of Desire, starring Antonio Banderas in his gorgeous early days), and then head eastward down to Piazza Dei Martiri, site of the SSC NApoli offices. There was a very famous Caffe called "La Caffetiera" note the spelling. It was a reference to the special style pot they used in making coffee. Then wandered down into the Villa Comunale regions, walking along the Lungomare (seaside walk) and then ending up in a tiny discotheque in the basement of one of the buildings next to one of the Facolta' building of the oldest university in Europe. I would emerge around 6AM, find something to eat and then grab a bus back to the Fuorigrotta section and then the train/bus back to the base. That repeated peregrinage is one of my dearest memories of my 4 years in Napoli
@@ZakhadWOW Great stories! I always stay at the Pinto Storey hotel in Piazza Amedeo. Great little place, been there in some form since about 1870 as a hotel, with great views of Vomero and the bay. I've taken friends who've never been to Napoli for weekends in the city and after being nervous at first, they fall madly for Napoli!
every episode is immaculate and fascinating, i've been to Italy - but not THIS Italy that you're able to discern so perfectly! Naples look and sounds like a whole other world, never mind just in Italy, this was really exciting to watch. thank you!!
Thank you both for this wonderful tour of Naples. My mother's family hails from Napoli and I'll probably never make it there, so I'm living vicariously through your wonderful channel. Your videos have brought me a lot of joy and entertainment, as life has been difficult in recent years. My mother is deceased, and I miss the Italian traditions I enjoyed in my younger years. Thank you both again for your beautiful and fun videos! Peace & Love - Julie Maria from Syracuse, NY
Same! My great-great grandparents hailed from Napoli, and I feel ashamed that I never bothered to look up what it’s like there! I feel so dumb for not having done so, because it’s the only part of my family that I know a good deal about... When I was around 13 I remember asking my great-grandmother to remind me if her folks were from Naples or Sicily, because I forgot and was working on a family heritage paper for school. I could instantly see that she was offended I’d even think for a second that the family was Sicilian! I’d never seen her like that lol... She whipped around and looked straight in my eyes while saying _“We are from Naples and don’t you ever forget it!”_ You bet I never made that mistake again! 😂 Later on in life, I figured out why she had such a visceral reaction to such an innocent question. It’s because there is such a difference in Italians from the regions - I was essentially asking her if we were black, because Sicilians were usually darker with more African genetics in them, and it was a really big deal in her day for others to know that one was not from _THAT_ part of Italy. Haha.
Ciao Harper, Eva and Vincenzo! So nice to see the three of you together in Naples. My parents are from Napoli and I have really enjoyed your highlights of some of the traditional dishes! Thank you!
Speravo di vedere Harper alle prese col per'e o'muss,ma devo dire che avete fatto un grande lavoro, voi due e Vincenzo siete dei grandi ambasciatori delle nostre tradizioni, gastronomiche,ma anche culturali. GRAZIE.
I would love Eva to show us her take on the spaghetti allo scammaro! Everything you guys shared with us and Vincenzo was a smiling experience. Thank you so much!
We're from Naples and brought all of our peasant food with to America. We still eat all of it and you'd need several episodes to cover all of it. All of the best Italian food is peasant food in my opinion 😋
I miss Napoli so much, hope to go back this summer when I'm done with the uni exams. I'll use this video as a guide for sure, but I'm going to eat at least one pizza. Thank you guys!
Hello Eva and Harper: Thank you so much for another wonderful video. Eva: every time I see one of these videos I am astounded at you knowledge of foods - including regional differences. I love Napoli - though I have not been there in many years. My grandmother was from Salerno and married a man from Nettuno. However, they lived in Napoli when their children were born (my mother and her siblings) and lived in Napoli for a few years before they went to the states. I have many cousins in Napoli and remember the food very dearly. It is always so lovely. My cousin once made a tripe salad with fresh and pickled vegetables which was served as a cold antipasto and I fell in love with tripe!! I will never forget it. Thanks again. D
