well simon, i ran across this video moments after posting a question on your other video, sorry about that, i suppose this answers it. thanks again for all of your help and videos, nal.
Hi Simon, this is yet another great video. Is there a firing schedule you can recommend? A particular graph one can follow both for bisque firing and glazing?
Awesome:) I will be making mine soon. What would happen if I make the top square? The reason I ask is because I already have wire that is bent into a square from a different project I was doing a few years ago.
I like this U-draft design, which must get more heatwork into the pots per gallon of propane than the updraft designs I've used. One advantage of a topside chimney hole, though, is that it lets in sunlight, which will begin to reflect off the glaze on the pot rims, my cue that they're at melting temperature. You could probably use a flashlight to get that reflection. It saves having to lift the lid and lose heat. Pyrometers? Too right, waste of money with raku.
Hi Simon, just want to take a sec & tell you how helpful your videos have been...Thank you soooo much for sharing your knowledge. I just purchased a Brackers fiber raku kiln and the paperwork says you cannot bisque fire in it because you can't control it and it fires too fast. I really need to be able to bisque fire, so I wondered what you would suggest here? Thanks again for all your advice! Amy
hey simon, thanks for the video. do you have a recommendation for bisque time in the raku kiln? tips for controlling the bisque temp steps? thanks! dave
Simon, this is Paul, a bit of an aspiring ceramist who has caught the Raku bug. Could you please tell me the length of time and temperature controls (vigilance) I need to make a successful bisque firing in a raku kiln similar to yours. And yes, I will keep practicing!!!
If anyone is looking for a source for the ceramic fiber, the cheapest place to get it is mcgillswarehouse (dot com) You have to google it. I cannot post a link I use it in my cone 10 kiln and it holds up fine. I have not located a cheaper source for the board or blanket anywhere.
This is really great, it shows that you don't need thousands of dollars to make pottery!

But Simon how do you know when the pieces have reached “bisque cone” temperatures?

Simon, I was thinking of visiting again, how much longer are you going to be in the states?
How long and at what temp do you do this bisque firing or do you make sure pots are bone dry? Do you need to regulate how fast temp comes up?
Personally, I'm trying to save money; I was wonder how long a big firing in this type of kiln takes?
Is there a part 1 to this video :)
How many firings can you get on that tank of gas?
What clay do you recommend for Raku?
what shoud the temp be
Do you have plans for the kiln? I was wondering dimensions.
Starts at the 3:00 mark.
