Out of curiosity, was the Coil used during this session or was it done without? The anim quality is really good, especially the "blanket" animation which didn't seem to have much clipping/crossing at all of the hands. It's great! And even more impressive if these results were achieved without needing the Coil.
@@RokokoMotion That's really great then!! The arm mocap was really good considering the Coil isn't even used. Same goes for drift too. The suit has definitely come a long way since the SSP v1 : D
Damn, now that the price has fallen I need to invest in one of these suits... and that spin move at @4:02 was super clean. Do you have a list of bone mapping for the imported skeleton? I will be using a custom Modo rig and need to make sure it plays nice
Supah-clean is our middle name! The software you'll be retargeting in determines the specific workflow, but our mocap data is exactly like any other and will play nice with any rigged character! Mocap clean up is always a part of AAA mocap retargeting because of the differences in proportion between the mocap actor and the character's skeleton, but we have all the workflows documented in our Ultimate Retargeting Series - check it out on our channel, hope that helps!
i'm researching for a non subscription based mocap suit and service (like with xsens) buut i've been hearing about the drifting with rokoko-especially for long takes. has this been fixed or is that just talk? great work!! keep creating
Drift is definitely a part of inertial mocap - however, we try to keep takes less than 5 minutes usually anyway (fbx starts getting biiiig), and you won't see noticeable drift at all in that time frame. If you're a vtuber and livestreaming, you DO need to do a calibration once every 20-30 minutes. Foot contact is completely stable for any recorded mocap, but in live mocap you will get subtle foot sliding. Hope that answers your question - we have a livestream every week if you want to see the performance for yourself!
This looks good, especially at the price point. However, there looks like a lot of clipping in the arms. If you were to export the mocap into something like Blender to put on your character I guess you're going to have to spend quite a long time cleaning that up.
There is definitely clipping for the character we're retargeting to - but that's just a matter of doing a little pose correction or changing up the base T-Pose slightly. Mocap editing is always going to be a part of the process because your character's proportions are usually at least a bit different to the actors. But that's the trade off baby! :) We're super affordable for unlimited mocap that's this stable but you have the limitations inherent to inertial mocap for sure.
Yeah, my biggest issue with the suit so far has been the arms. But to be fair to Rokoko, the Coil Pro solves my main issues with it. Thankfully the sensors are still very accurate and preserve all of the motions that you do; the bones just need an additive rotation offset applied in Blender/Maya to make the key poses match the performance closer. I just record video reference with my mocap so the process is easier. Sadly cleanup is part of the process with any mocap solution though, whether it's a cheaper Rokoko suit or an expensive optical stage. It becomes more obvious when you need to retarget to a different skeleton with different proportions. So when I take all of that into account, it was a really good investment for my needs tbh. I'm just waiting on the Coil Pro to be shipped so that the arm chain mocap and drift fix issues are more accurate "out of the box".
Would love to see some videos of mocap for characters other than human and humanoid characters where actor acts up some monsters, four leged creatures and similar.
That stuff is always awesome, I recommend checking out ShutterAuthority's Velociraptor videos for great examples of bipedal mocap being used for creature animation. All of that stuff is possible, but it falls more on the retargeting side, which is outside the scope of what our products provide (the mocap). However, we also have tons of retargeting tutorials on our UA-cam channel - hopefully that helps!
Can you do a simple legit TPose? I have the first suit and something so basic is not possible. I want to mocap archery which requires proper form and I simply can't do it with the smart suit 1.
We have a real-time plugin for Unreal through Rokoko Studio. There are a bunch of videos about how it works here on YT - here's one about the latest updates in our Rokoko Studio update: ua-cam.com/video/sKktz0eeKOg/v-deo.htmlsi=4OUixTDwK0q5HPKm
That's not possible in Rokoko Studio, but you can limit what data you use in your 3rd party tool (like Unreal, Unity, Maya etc) both in real-time without plugins or in post if you import the FBX
It's ideal that the suit isn't too loose on the body. On the other hand, if you need it to fit multiple size people, the worst that can happen is of course that some actors can't fit into it at all (or risk breaking it). So if you would just go for one that fits most people, we would probably recommend a size Large. But remember that you can also buy additional textiles in different sizes and switch the sensors between them: support.rokoko.com/hc/en-us/articles/14611388696465-Extra-Textiles-for-the-Smartsuit-Pro-II
There are no health risks associated with the suit/gear. It has got standard WiFi etc., components on it that all comply with regulation. If you wear the suit for long periods of time and it is strapped super tightly to your body (which is something you as a user can control yourself), it can of course get warm and in some cases uncomfortable. But this would be the case with any tight clothing and is more about you being aware of how you feel while wearing it and adjusting accordingly.
I really want to try and use the whole deal, but goddamn the price is high for everything. I get its for professionals. I could maybe justify the suit alone, but the gloves are steep as well much to my suprise as of now. Ergh, i´d feel bad about myself if i bought this honestly since im still trying to break into the animation industry, so my income isnt amazing. And also the fact i would have to pay subscription monthly after that much money just to live stream to unreal engine and such.
Hi guys, we bought one from you and we are very very very very unhappy with it. The arms and shoulders work quite badly, the hands move in a very stiff and orthopedic way. The integration with Unreal is a complete disaster. Our feeling is that we bought a product that had many promises and the reality is that everything works terribly. We would love you to propose a solution at the software or hardware level. Maybe we can publish videos that we have taken... so you can see the reality of what you are selling.
HI there, very sorry to hear of this. These are not issues that usually are brought up with us, so hopefully it's something we can solve by helping you get it all set up correctly. It would be very helpful if you would send a video of how it looks to support@rokoko.com and also explain your issues. Then they will do all they can to help out
I understand that these comments on the videos do not seem appropriate to you. But it would be good for you to be completely honest, because studios like mine may buy your products with the idea of finding a solution to a problem. In the end that solution turns into a real drama. So I hope that what happened to us does not happen to other users. You have admitted in other comments that your devices are not working properly. I have and will talk to your technical support, but I don't think my purchase was worth it.
@@davidcatalan6684 Hi again, we can't speak to the specifics of your situation without having seen the footage, but I'm sure support can if you are in contact with them. I wonder if you were on an online demo with our product specialists before buying - we are very transparent about the pros and cons of our solution. We are very confident that we offer the best value for money in motion capture. However, if you are looking for the most high-end systems on the market, there are of course options that target that segment more directly (at 10x the price and 10x the time of use) that could be a better fit. It sounds more like a possible misalignment of expectation to what you get for a system as affordable as hours (if in fact you have set up everything correctly and are seeing the best quality we can offer and still are not satisfied). We have MANY high-end studios using our tools, but they adapt it to fit the strengths of the system (speed/ease of setup and 80-90% of high-end quality). Some studios use our tools for previs, some use it for end result, but most do a mix where they cover a lot of final animation with our tools, but then have to find other solutions for some advanced/unique things that require a different setup.
For the money you guys are asking, this still has major problems. On the imported character, when you sit on the chair, her left arm just goes through the left leg. ua-cam.com/video/OQ91K5BnugY/v-deo.html Also, the fact that you don't want to include a Daz3d pipeline is a major limitation. And why the fixation with Mixamo????
The hand clipping is to be expected to be fair. They have some really good cleanup/retargeting guides though and something like this is super quick and easy to fix in animation software like Maya. It can be done in probably less than a minute or two.
She has super thick legs. It looks ok on the thin guy. It will be always an issue with mocap as long as the target character isn't 1:1 in all dimensions as the mocap actor. If you are doing mocap in which You scratch Your belly, and then Your character is a big fat orc with big belly, then even if You recorded perfect, submilimeter precision mocap, You will have cliping on Your target character cuz it has different dimension that the actor. Retargetting for specific characters nad clean up is always part of the job and won't be ever solved on hardware side, because even perfect hardware with subatomic precision and billion frames per second would not solve that. Maybe we will have some fancy software that can do that automatically in the future, but for the hardware, thing You pointed out isn't a major problem. It probably isn't even a problem at all
@@Dzarafata you could always add an offset during recording. Settings like Character Height ( existing right now ) could be added for LEg thickness, Hip size, etc. And for the money they ask, I would say they should have existed already. IF they would allow you to import your own SK, and define some basic sizes ( hip, shoulder, arm, legs thickness, etc ) it would make it worth the asking price. Also, look again. The problem is not her super thick legs, the arm goes right through the middle of her leg. So, I would think that is a retarget problem, not the thickness of the leg.
