It's really amazing how Reallusion makes it look like you will spend $300 for iClone/Character Creator. By the time you get done with 3DXChange, Motion Live, the Facial Profile, the Rokoko Profile, Smartsuit Pro II, iPhone, and everything else you need, you'll be lucky to get away with under $7,000. Same here. Got a Rokoko Smart Suit Pro 2 with the gloves, $3000+. Have gotten ZERO value from it. Every time I try and use it it's another issue. Money absolutely wasted. I assumed it was user error at first but now I know it's just not a good product. Wish I could get my money back
If you have issues with magnetic interference try turning off 5G on your router and use only the 2.4 or whatever mode. This made all sensors on my suit go from yellow to green. Pretty weird stuff.
Why wouldn’t the hands mess up when touching the head? You’re expecting real-time physics w/mocap right out of the box. Not a fan of the upselling on their part but I think you were a bit harsh. These products are for professionals and you’re treating it like a toy. This feels like someone new to 3D upset that they can’t just materialize their imagination immediately.
Kind of interesting they've announced both a price hike and a price drop in the last nine months. Oh yeah, supposedly now they're selling their "Coil Pro" unit for $2K that will supposedly let you use the suit as advertised. Yeah, an ADDITIONAL $2,000 for a piece of hardware that makes the hardware you already own work as ADVERTISED. It really burns me that in all their advertising they have people holding objects like weapons, etc. and there is not enough precision to keep hands from intersecting!
I did a mocap cleanup job from Rokoko suit and man! I personally will never buy it till they can absolutely get that sliding and positional tracking thing figured out.
Man, as we say the pleasure is in the journey and not necessarily the destination ! For me, you are a star. Helped me so much in my research through your detailed show
Oh thank gawd, its not just us then. When we try to record any motions that involve feet shuffling or small steps, the character rarely moves the way we want. Have to do so many takes.
I think the future is Rokoko Mocap Suit -like solution combined with cameras. I don't think you would actually need physical sensors as long as the suit has clear markings that cameras are able to focus clearly enough. Of course, doing that real-time requires quite a lot processing power to combine multiple camera feeds with the suit measurements.
Thanks so much for this! Just got my suit up and running yesterday and have been thoroughly disappointed. And perplexed because I did a crap ton of research on this. Built a custom rig. Tested with their sample mocap files and have had zero usable recordings so far. Much help and appreciated.
Hey Keith, I’m so sorry for you!! Yes, I know this feeling. Over time I learned that great Mocap suits cost much more than the Rokoko and still need to be cleaned up. But I have one tip for you. Get the app metal detector and check your whole recording space including floor, walls and ceiling. It should be max around 40-50 but should not vary more than 2-4 in your shooting area. If you have more fluctuation, try to find another shooting area. For me the only solution is going outside into a park since my whole apartment seems to be full of metal parts. It’s mainly build in my floor. It’s not so convenient to go outside, but it helped a lot

Lesson to retain from this experience is :" Never buy a product that is marketed massively with ads everywhere" generally a company that makes a quality product doesn't need to market it because its quality will speak itself. Best example is cars, do you see ads everywhere about Porsche, Rolls Royce, Bentley ..etc ? No, of course because everyone knows that whatever car of theirs you will buy will be a dope.
So I joined a motion capture group in Houston, TX. We have full access to a motion capture studio. Dancing, fighting, flying, stairs, and falling. It's literally free. I pay monthly dues around $50 only when I need access. I'm sure LA, a hot bed for film and CG artists should have something similar. Great video and wish you well on your MOCAP journey.
Oh man, thank you so much for this much needed video. Like, I'm pretty sure it's still fun as hell to experiment with all this. But if you're an indie game developer, you can't just lower your expectations: you'll have to butcher the quality of your game and add another year to the development deadline. Which is not fun at all.
you need to research anything you buy, also this kinda thing require you to master software, it's not like instant app on your phone, your expectation is to high, for live streaming you might be good to go with perception neuron, rokoko known to have drifting issue, but the new suite have improvement on that, and you can even go up the stair now
This video has proven to me that, as soon as we can do realtime motion capture and face capture, I can accept anything as real because I noticed around 10 minutes into this video that I forgot I was listening to a baby in a leather jacket and aviator glasses VR will eventually be glorious
I spent the hole time watching this cringing at the aviators, they too many levels of less convincing than everything else. Still better than Look Who's Talking.
The title of the video contradicts how you feel bro . The video says that you wasted your money but in the end somehow you still love your rokoko suit ? I am unable to connect the dots just like Rokoko suit failed to connect to the ground. Thanks for informing us btw .
does it taakes as long to set up and clean up? would you animate faster mixing mixamo mocap animations than cleaning up the entire animation from rococo . .im new in this so im not sure .im planning to do 5 minutes long videos .. so not sure if whats faster to produce mocap cleaning animate with mixamo or just getting the vive motion sensors and just clean up the animation .
Your video is interesting, However you forget to mentioned something which make the different for real. EVERY mocap suit or Tech won't give you a perfect motion Data, that why animators exist. You can work on a AAA Games Studio or a VFX Industry it will be the same. Animators will retarget and clean the Mocap based on the reference and on the animation principals. I'm not using Rokoko, but definitely this suit is LESS expensive that studio are using. Overall your video is nice and well produced ;)
I was confused as to how someone would actually buy a Rokoko suit without understanding this. He seems to think Mocap transfers perfectly to the target without any extra work needed.
Totally wants to make me look for homebrew optical mocap. Maybe ML to clean up jitter some how. The avatar was…weird but I couldn’t stop watching. Your course sounds interesting though.
Thanks, it's very interesting ! Perception Neuron V2 was better than Rokoko, but more tricky to get worked correctly, but it costed 1500 EUR and had less glitches 😭 I still love it. Have you tried the AI motion capture ? Vive mocap !!✌
4000? damn... I paid half that and my experience is pretty good, but then again, I don't use it for streaming live, I use it for motion data and also I'm an animator so Rokoko was perfect for me.
The suit was 2500 + 1500 for the gloves + 600 for face = 4600. Plus they told me I should try the virtual production add on (+ vive tracker) and another wifi I router (+ 1500) = 6100 that I spend. I can imagine if you are an animator that it works great for you. Now that I have a year experience my results are getting better as well. But it’s still hard for me to find a clean area to record.
@@Moons_mooniverse Yeh, I see your point here. I only bought the suit because I can just animate everything else. Glad to hear you're getting better! Great video though, it was informative. :)
I laughed until I cried, I'm a bit like you, I dream of buying a motion capture suit and from the comparisons, rokoko is cheaper but your testimony in this video, I think I'm not going to buy rokoko, but maybe XSENS
According to Rokoko's website, sensors show up as yellow when there's more than 4 milligauss.... According to the magnetometer app, my apartment has around 300-500mG so f me, lol
Looking at the location of their hq in Denmark and usa, there is no way it even works for them. It's essentially a scam company. They even removed help section for magnetic interference, the number one problem
At 8:30 you're talking about how the suit really struggles with position and locomotion but since you published this video the Smartsuit Pro II came out which claims to do much better in these categories. Any opinions?
I had an original Smartsuit, and it didn't work well. I then got a Smartsuit II, and it doesn't improve anything in this regard. As far as I can tell, the only real improvements are on super extreme movements, but it still drifts just as badly over time.
This made me feel so bad for you bro OMG, i've never had access to that amount off money before but i can't imagine how devastated i would be if invested that much money and can't get my money's worth
Use Steam VR trackers, and valve Index Controler for the hand. And you can Live Link all the thing in Unreal Engine With a IPhone for the facial animation.. So you also dont need all the Iclone things out of cost anymore... Better, Sheaper and top of that, so much Faster.

How does CodeMiko do it? OK she is a wizard, she has probably programmed all her own filtering and drivers in Unreal. OH WAIT she's not on Rokoko, she's on Xsens.
I think Rokoko suit is way over priced for the result it offers. For this price, i would expect a clean result without having the need for cleaning. Otherwise, I would be paying 4000$ for few gyroscope sensors.
Similar story here. I got the first one. It cannot record: running, walking, turning... It is OK to record stationary movements :-). I bought Perception Neuron Studio next - I'm happy now :-).
Yes - yes we're laughing. But the marketing of these suits have suckered so many people into thinking they're good. I've used every single inertial suit on the market and they're ALL crap.
this is a great video on both aspects - being informative, and being cool content. makes me think I should do vtuber stuff when I get a suit. if this was for the smartsuit V1, it would be cool to see a V2 review.
They also don't tell you that to stream AT ALL you need to pay them Adobe $ - that's right, $29.99 per month or you're capturing little 10 minute segments to later import somewhere else. Retargeting is awful.
Thanks very much for your video, I was curious because as you say, basically all the content from Rokoko online is from Rokoko themselves. By the way, would I still have to get all the rellusion plugin content even if I dont want to use character creator (or metahuman)?
Motion capture is principally used for animation in entertainment - games movies etc. This inherently requires retargeting and cleaning up of the capture data by animators. A lot of work needs to be done to turn raw mocap data into finalized performance. How could someone spend $4k on a mocap suit without knowing this?
So in the end, is there a suit that works plug and play in unreal engine 5 for live streaming and or recording without having to tweak like the face live link?
Glad to hear that Roman! That was my goal with the video. Mocap is definitely fun and the Rokoko is a great way to get into the world. But you should have the right expectations :)

If you are not in the industry making stacks this is an absolute waste of money
The AA on those shades is killing me lol
I really hope there are video comparing all the possible mocap option, brekel body, ipisoft, rokoko smart suit...
Smartsuit 2 just came out and it seems they've fixed the floor stuff, or at least the elevation (e.g. stairs etc)
yeah kinda sad it seems he bought it right before they released version 2
Thank you. I was close to buy it. Good thing I've did some investigation before doing it.
I can't wait to get into mocap but I'm using vive trackers maybe upgrade to a suit in the future
Thanks, it's very interesting ! Perception Neuron V2 was better than Rokoko, but more tricky to get worked correctly, but it costed 1500 EUR and had less glitches 😭 I still love it.
Have you tried the AI motion capture ?
Vive mocap !!✌
Idream of buying it... but this makes me think
Please update this Video once the CoilPro comes out.
Great review Moon, we definitely need more real life information about mocap products on the market. I cant figure out the best indie option so far.
Checkout Manus Polygon. You need 6 vive Tracker, but the software is free if you stream to Unreal. Will do a video soon
This was 2 years ago. I need a recent review.
great summory! Thanks for sharing your experiances.
you would rather animate the hands yourself? or was it just not in your budget?
So....this "Affordable" mocap will still require a bank loan to buy.
I laughed until I cried, I'm a bit like you, I dream of buying a motion capture suit and from the comparisons, rokoko is cheaper but your testimony in this video, I think I'm not going to buy rokoko, but maybe XSENS
Its universally known that Rokoko is trash these days. Theyll be out of business in the next year or 2.
It doesn't I'm afraid
I had an original Smartsuit, and it didn't work well. I then got a Smartsuit II, and it doesn't improve anything in this regard. As far as I can tell, the only real improvements are on super extreme movements, but it still drifts just as badly over time.
I also want to thank you for the independent review.
Can you elaborate what has been replaced from Iclone? I'm genuinely looking for answers :)
am now in this shits , i ordered it ine last augst 2021, to much late for covid shipment problem , arrived at jan 2022, untill now i cannot use it , 4 monthes i try and test and emails go and emails come , am dooo mad
you didnt waste your money bro. You made a great job
fun fact: a solution for body, face and finger Capture will be available for everyone in maybe 2 years. I guess it will come from Valve
aged like milk
How does CodeMiko do it?
OK she is a wizard, she has probably programmed all her own filtering and drivers in Unreal.
OH WAIT she's not on Rokoko, she's on Xsens.
As long as you are outside in the woods with dedicated router....
thanks for the deep explanations , very helpfull video
this is the type of video we all want
I think Rokoko suit is way over priced for the result it offers. For this price, i would expect a clean result without having the need for cleaning. Otherwise, I would be paying 4000$ for few gyroscope sensors.
Id look into ipisoft or brekel... total game changers
Great review. Now I decided to buy this.
Yeah u got money we get it😭
Man almost spent 10k experimenting. 😂 I would of cut my losses at 6k 😅
Hire an animator! 🎉 F that noise
You should have just gone with daz studio and blender instead of dropping 2 grand for the iclone stuff.
Wish I had known that before buying into their pipeline (Reallusion). It's a wasteful money pit
Damn I started Using Animaze and was going to buy motion traction hand technology with UltraLeap what rabbit hole did I go down? Lol
Thank you so much for the detailed review
Thank you for sharing the video mate.
Really helpful!
Glad it was helpful!
So they told you to touch the grass, but that's feature isn't supported yet :D
Similar story here. I got the first one. It cannot record: running, walking, turning... It is OK to record stationary movements :-). I bought Perception Neuron Studio next - I'm happy now :-).
Yes - yes we're laughing. But the marketing of these suits have suckered so many people into thinking they're good. I've used every single inertial suit on the market and they're ALL crap.
Tried Xsens? Outstanding quality. I am happy with mine.
@@adelepierre8504 how much
@@adelepierre8504 Xsens is expensive + gotta pay to use software. It is not indie friendly.
@@LaurynasSFM yes, 250€ each month but you get what you pay for
this is a great video on both aspects - being informative, and being cool content. makes me think I should do vtuber stuff when I get a suit. if this was for the smartsuit V1, it would be cool to see a V2 review.
No, you don’t have to get the reallusion content. Instead I recommend stream directly from Rokoko Studio to Unreal.
@@Moons_mooniverseThats great, thank you again. Its been very helpful
Can you use a roko live mocap suit AND a virtual camera rig in your scene at the same time?
Yes, you can. The setup is a little more comprehensive. And it‘s highly recommended that you get a clean area (free of magnetical interference)
5:57 it seems every rokoko user has a dancer/yoga girlfriend lol
This was a really useful video thank you! I'm wondering how you feel about how perception neuron stacks up next to Rokoko
thank you for this Moon!!
its really terrible, but for the price the only option. Be prepared to do a TON of cleanup for anything near acceptable
Motion capture is principally used for animation in entertainment - games movies etc. This inherently requires retargeting and cleaning up of the capture data by animators. A lot of work needs to be done to turn raw mocap data into finalized performance. How could someone spend $4k on a mocap suit without knowing this?
So in the end, is there a suit that works plug and play in unreal engine 5 for live streaming and or recording without having to tweak like the face live link?
in hole internet recently i 've wached video xsens vs rokoko and there author talking about almost same thing) THank you for that video!
the mouth movements are unbearable to watch ...
Yea animaze i pone facial tracking is way better. That’s crazy
I like this character!
So in the end, what was the total cost of getting to a working result? Around US$6000-$7000 or so?
interesting, thanks for the review
Thanks for amazing video, it helped us to understand all the pains in the mocap pipeline
Glad to hear that Roman! That was my goal with the video. Mocap is definitely fun and the Rokoko is a great way to get into the world. But you should have the right expectations :)
No body talk about it because everybody knows that is a garbage system.
It's super hot and uncomfortable. Don't trust people who are paid to recommend this.Let me clarify that the author has not been sponsored.
Excellent video!
I'm both very disappointed and very thankful for this review, i'd rather lose 12k on xsens than 17k on a rokoko then xsens
rokoko is going to be much more expensive than 12k
i meant xsens
Or spend 9k one time for a PN Studio. Xsens requires a yearly license that make your costs endless.
