I’ve seen people having trouble with this so I’m gonna try to make it clear. When making the tentacles, each tentacle takes five stitches, 2 in the beginning, 1 for the long bit, and 2 at the end, then you start the next tentacle with 2 more. There should be 4 stitches between each long bit. The row you’re putting the tentacles on should have 40 stitches total, 40 / 5 = 8 so you should end up with 8 tentacles

Thank you, I was so confused on why it wasn’t working out for me. I’ve torn this row out 2 times. Now when I read the pattern in the tutorial I see the 2SC at the end. I don’t know how I missed this important detail. Thank you again!❤

Love this! Just finished making mine. I used worsted weight yarn so I had to adjust the pattern to make the sizing right but it still turned out great. I didn’t stuff the body though. Using the yarn I did made it slightly difficult to try and stuff from one tentacle and I didn’t think it looked right so I only stuffed the tentacles. Plus the yarn I used ended up being slightly stiff once all the sewing was done so it held shape solidly without stuffing. I’ll definitely be making it again and again thank you for this great pattern!

Just finished mine! It took maybe a total of 5 hours to complete, but I crochet slowly, and have ADHD, so sometimes I get sidetracked. 😅
Anyway, I didn't have any chunky yarn, so I doubled up on 4 weight and used a 6mm hook. Turned out to be about 6" across and 4"-5" high. 😲 Cute as heck, though. I used a black metallic and regular black strand for the happy side. The eyes have a wee white circle around them, and the smile is white.
The frowny side is white with black accents. I only put stuffing in the tentacles.
I *do* encourage people to use chunky yarn though, because my octopus has a flat head. I suppose if I had put some stuffing in it, it could be more round. 🤷🏼‍♀️
Next one I do, I'm going to add a round of just sc after rows 3 and 5 to see if it'll round out a bit. (Simply because I don't have chunky yarn, and cannot afford to get any.)
I LOVE this pattern though. It was very easy to do and follow.
    Thank you for showing us!

EDIT: After watching again this is an error on my part. I figured it out.
I followed all the steps, had 40 stitches going into the tentacles and somehow ended up with more than 8 tentacles. I ended up with 12. I did the two sc, ch 7, 6 sc from the second stitch from the hook, through the 2 loops, through the stitch next to it, yarn through all three loops. then I do the next 2 stitches. should I add more stitches in between the tentacles? I have pulled apart and recounted and redid the tentacles 3 times. Im so frustrated.

I’m gonna try that if anybody has any more suggestions pls lmk, I’m using the same yarn and hook so idk what’s wrong maybe I skipped a round on accident :((

Somehow the body of mine ended up too short. I dont know if I missed some rows or something but by the time I did the decrease the body wasnt very long and still had the 40 stitches I needed when I was done doing the decreasing before starting the tentacles. Should I just add more rows before decreasing to make the body long enough?

At rows 7-11, you do just single crochets. These five rows are all done in one step, so maybe you accidentally did one row of those instead of 5?

I used worsted yarn, so he’s a little misshapen. Idc tho I still love him. I named him squishy

What am I doing wrong? When I get the 8 tentacles done there's still a ton of stitches left on the body.
