What you may not have known is that Phil Collins played at Live Aid England then took a Concorde supersonic Jet to the US where he performed at Live Aid America and could still belt out another performance. Although he can play the Piano very well. He is at heart a Drummer from his time with the band Genesis. His transatlantic flight and both performances were all achieved on the same day. Thousands of miles and an Ocean alart. Sound's bonkers but 100 % true. For1985, this and both countries coming together to raise money and awareness of the terrible famine in Ethiopia was quite an achievement. I don't believe there will ever be anything even close to what one man Bob Geldoff, through sheer force of will, created this one time in history . A truly extraordinary world event viewed by close to half of all people's on the entire planet.
Hi Ineke This Performance was at Wembley Stadium London he then flew on concorde to Philidelphia and Played it there about 5 hours later all the best Jim, Surrey, England
That was Sting sitting at the side of the stage. Cooool. And I love Phil's little smile after the goof but then right back into character without a tiny miss.

He did play the song again without a hitch, when straight after Wembley he flew to do the same gig in Philadelphia with Concorde. His finger slipped off the black piano key, because it was on a white stage and so incredibly hot, that he was sweating quite a lot. 😅 On that same Wembley stage, Sting and Branford Marsalis are there in the background. Before Phil appeared, they performed Roxanne. Then after Against All Odds, the three of them did Long Long Way To Go and Every Breath You Take (the former appears on Phil's 3rd solo album No Jacket Required, and Sting did backing vocals on this song and Take Me Home).
@@DarthSherm94 Originally, John Taylor and Andy Taylor were to join Phil in this venture, as they were both in Duran Duran as well as The Power Station, with the former in Philadelphia and the latter in Wembley, who but sadly dropped out.

Before took over as lead singer for the band Genesis after Peter Gabriel left and then he went to a solo career in the 1980s. He acted in some movies back in the eighties too. "The World we Live in" was a lesser known song that was overlooked by the charts.
Phil never left Genesis til 96 he did solo albums as bid Mike n Tony from Genesis when they had all done solo stuff they all went back to the mothership that was Genesis , Phil rejoined genesis for a tour in 2007 and has just ended his career a few months ago with a final Genesis tour .
Boomer here. Lol You may or may not know this but Phil starting this song was a music 1st. Phil became the 1st big musician to play on 2 diff continents within 24 hrs. He played early at Wembly stadium in England, then hauled ass to fly to Phillidelphia to play at the 2nd venue. Philly and Wembly were doing Live Aid at the same time with a big list of musicians at both locations. The television broadcast would switch back and forth. Anyways, glad you enjoy some old Phil.
Hi Guys Love your reaction btw, just to clarify contrary to other comments here this is the Wembley Stadium London performance he then jumped on concorde and played it again in Philly a few hours later sorry to be so pedantic (British affliction!) Phil used to live about 10 miles away from me right on the border of Surrey/West Sussex where myself and a colleague fitted the carpets etc in his and Genesis's private recording studio about 30 odd years ago He's a lovely down to earth genuine bloke also did some work for his Genesis bandmate Mike Rutherford who's also a nice bloke who had a big solo hit called "The Living Years" worth checking out Anyway all the best from across the pond Jim, Surrey, England X
On his first album heh as 2 great songs that are inspired by His favorite band Earth Wind and Fire. I Cannot Believe Its True and It dont Matter To Me.
And there's Sting sitting on the other side of the piano. Phil joined Sting on "Every Breath You Take" and Sting also joined Dire Straits for "Money For Nothing" on the same stage.
My two other break up songs by him that I love are "One More Night", and "Separate Lives". This as well as "In The Air Tonight" were written after the break up with his first wife. For his more upbeat songs try "Don't Loses My Number", "Sussudio", and his duet with Phillip Bailey from Earth, Wind, and Fire, "Easy Lover". All great cuts. Try the live version of Phil doing "In The Air Tonight" form "Finally...The First Farewell Tour". It murders the studio version. How about Smokey doing the black and white live version of "Ooh Baby Baby"?
This was his first number one song. As much as I like the Live Aid versions (he played the song at Wembley early in the concert, hopped aboard the Concorde to the U.S., and played it again in Philadelphia), I prefer the studio and other live versions, which have the heavy drum enter midway. That makes this a true 80s power ballad. Phil Collins, who is one of the most successful pop/rock stars in history. He’s one of only three performers who has sold 100 million albums as a solo artist and with a band. The other two are Paul McCartney and Michael Jackson. Collins was the drummer and then the lead singer of the progressive rock band Genesis from 1970-1996. He started a solo career in 1981, and had a string of hits through the 80s of his own songs and with Genesis. For starters, even if you don’t like the song, you need to check out this live performance of In The Air Tonight from 2004: m.ua-cam.com/video/IeDMnyQzS88/v-deo.html. It’s amazing (which is why it had 95 million views when I last checked). Some solo songs to react to: I Don’t Care Anymore. (The live version from the 1992 Perkins Palace concert is great if you want to see raw vocals and more great drums m.ua-cam.com/video/zZ3GA6dazTA/v-deo.html). Another Day in Paradise won the Grammy for Record of the Year ua-cam.com/video/Qt2mbGP6vFI/v-deo.html. Also, his song I Wish It Would Rain Down is phenomenal and has great guitar work by Eric Clapton (who also appears in the official video which has a lot of in-jokes ua-cam.com/video/YcY3FH208l8/v-deo.html). And Easy Lover is an up-tempo duet with Philip Bailey of Earth Wind and Fire ua-cam.com/video/JkRKT6T0QLg/v-deo.html. You also should check out Phil’s work with the band Genesis. There are so many songs there - Mama (check out this live version from 1987 m.ua-cam.com/video/WcfuvgQJ1pY/v-deo.html), That’s All, Tonight Tonight Tonight, Land of Confusion, In Too Deep, Home By the Sea/Second Home By the Sea (here’s a great live version ua-cam.com/video/P7Ko79vytWA/v-deo.html), Dance on Volcano, and Ripples - just for starters. (One fascinating thing about Phil Collins is that he alternated between solo albums and Genesis albums in the 1980s. Between the two, he released 8 or 9 albums in that decade, plus several songs that appeared on soundtracks.) Generally, for Phil’s solo stuff and with Genesis, I recommend concert versions. The music is a bit more raw and Phil lets loose a bit more vocally. The exceptions are: Genesis’ Land of Confusion (the official video is 80s craziness satirizing politicians and celebrities using puppets); Phil’s duet with Philip Bailey, Easy Lover (nobody does Bailey’s parts justice when performing live); Another Day in Paradise (with a very powerful video), and Phil’s I Wish It Would Rain Down (the studio version and official video have Eric Clapton - and the video is full of in-jokes).
