After playing Live AId at Wembly Stadium, Phil took the Concorde to New York City, then a helicopter to Philadelphia for Live Aid there. Did Against All Odds and In The AIr Tonight.
This was on a hot white stage. Phil was so sweaty, his finger slipped off one of the black keys, as you can hear. That event was really tough for him. There's even a whole chapter about it in his autobiography.
Phil has lots of songs of varying tempos. This one is my all-time favorite of his though. This is a great version of it but when he has the full band with him, it's even more powerful. (I want to say that Phil was a last-minute addition to the show, hence his only one song.) The song you were thinking of is "In the Air Tonight". Which isn't about drowning, but the end of his first marriage. The drowning line was purely metaphorical for being trapped in a bad relationship, and the "I would not lend a hand" line was his denial that they were having the issues she claimed that existed. If you want faster Phil songs check out "Sussudio", "Something Happened On the Way to Heaven", "Don't Loose My Number", and "That's All". He has loads of other stuff with his band Genesis, and an amazing album of Motown covers. P.S. Love your Rush "Permanent Waves" shirt.
I don’t think Phil was a last-minute replacement at Live Aid. I’m pretty sure he was one of the artists announced pretty early on (after all, Phil had played drums on the Band Aid recording). Some of the logistics were fairly last minute since he played at both venues with multiple acts. Also, at Wembley, he played three of his own songs (Against All Odds, In the Air Tonight, and Long, Long Way to Go). The last one was with Sting, who sang backup on the song on the album. Phil also sang backup on Sting’s Every Breath You Take. In Philadelphia, Phil did In the Air Tonight and Against All Odds, and played drums for Eric Clapton and the infamous Led Zepellin set.
Hi Jem, the meaning of this song is about 2 lovers, still in love, who cannot see each other again. It is best explained by watching the end of the movie it was written for (Against All Odds). They play the song showing the 2 lovers looking at each other from a distance. ua-cam.com/video/ckQgO6bnwpw/v-deo.html
Check out 'Tonight, Tonight, Tonight' with Genesis and Phil Collins for a more driving rock-type song. Huge musical catalog that covers everything from acoustic guitar to synths and heavy drums.
only three musicians have sold 100 million records in a group and solo (genesis) with michael jasckson (the Jackson 5) and paul mccartney (Beatles) so yeh kind of popular
Man he can barely walk anymore!😢now his song plays the drums for him, and he just sits and sings. He’s one very talented artist! He was with the band Genesis way back in the 70s! Before going solo.
He ‘smirks’, laughs it off and then carries on like a pro. Perfect reaction and in fact many people have said they really enjoyed his reaction showing he was human.
Great Artist and a great performer. The UK have had some incredible talent over the decades for sure
Phil Collins sings straight into your heart!
Yes you are correct Phil is a fun guy he has a wicked sense of humour !!!

He wrote the song after his divorce the song is used in the film Against all odds

He’s a perfectionist. He doesn’t need to let an “incorrect key strike” get him down. Fans don’t care about that. He was brilliant as usual.
He sounds exactly like the studio production. A testament to his exquisite voice.
Vocals, drums, piano what couldn't he do? Good reaction 👍

Hola hermosa que excelente tema muy lindo saludos desde Argentina😂
The litttle trinkets behind your right shoulder, change. That is good, always change ing. Is good. Update, clean.
Great song, but the studio version hits much deeper than the live version... much more so.
No way ZZ, this was much better than the studio version
Sussudio is a faster pace. But I haven't seen many reactions to 'thru these walls' live at perlis Palace or you could play album version
One guy with a piano....

At 2 minutes Phil hits the wrong chord and grimaces
but otherwise a great rendition

I think he is not singing any more.
Endeavor coming back to us is Against All Odds.🥲
