  • I took a hot air balloon flight over Cheltenham, UK. At the time I had just purchased a new (then) Cannon 550D DSLR, which I took with me and sat on the edge of the basket. Surprisingly a hot air balloon creates a fantastically stable aerial shot!
Using Premiere Pro, I cut a short sequence. Sent the sequence to After Effects. Using some "hole" stock imagery, I created track mattes and offset the track matted images to create the illusion of "layers" of ground shifting and falling into the hole created.
Adding some smoke layers and fire stock we can repeat further sell depth of the hole.
On the outside of the hole, you can use a version of the original hole image with the blending mode set to multiply. This will give you the appearance of burn damage to further sell the damage and the composite.
