      This is typical keyboard behaviour for any Surface Pro since the first version. Usually detach and reattach fixes it, or sometimes you have to shut down the Surface itself. You’d think they’d have fixed it over 11 revisions!

      I don’t care if it worked for even 1 second; the fact it froze and required a Windows update (or probably a restart) to fix it is mind boggling to say the least. My primary laptop is a Windows laptop and I face issues every now and then. It’s common.

      I know right !! But they are all doing the same Apple want $442 for their keyboard, Samsung is a bit cheaper depending on which ones.. but not usable detachable. I'm kind of temped but keyboard is a bit of a put off but you can used older ones 8 / 9 or X - Signature ones.

    I have been still using my surface pro 6 and finally broke down and just ordered the pro 11. I had to update my keyboard also as the one I have is too old. However the old 3 power adapters I guess and docking station should work. Anyway the Surface pro blows away any tablet when traveling etc as you can actually work on it for Powerpoint, emails, etc. Sometimes when I had to carry my work laptop and surface pro in my bag it was like nothing to carry. The keyboard is a must and the only negative is that it is expensive. However my old pro6 lasted forever and I expect this new pro11 to last me at least 10 years. Looking forward to using it and being updated.

      Totally agree, we're still using two Pro 4's and though the batteries are gone, both work fine plugged in and both keyboards are fine - they just need looking after (amazed how badly treated some are that I've seen, then they complain because they're broken). I was going to buy this new one but the price of the keyboard/pen was a dealbreaker unfortunately, just too much especially as I already have 2 of the new pens.

    • @jnagator

      @@severnsea So far the investment has been worth it! I truly love this new Pro11 it rocks and it is so fast. I love not having to plug it in all the time. I had it unplugged for 3 days and still did 2-3 hours a day during that time. The best feature is that you can have the keyboard off and work on it. I upgraded the SSD to 2TB on my own.

    Been a Mac user for many years and even made a lucrative career out of it, but just recently started getting back into Windows 11, and I gotta say I am looking at retiring my Apple hardware and moving over to Windows. Apple just doesn't innovate anymore and Windows seems to be doing some really cool stuff lately. Every year the hardware is still the same. The OS's are years behind, and rarely work (like AirDrop which I can barely get working between devices).

    • @techinrl9869
      @techinrl9869 5 місяців тому

      You're obviously unfamiliar with iPads since Apple does make kickstand keyboards. The iPad 10'th generation has a keyboard case with kickstand. It takes up a LOT more desk space and cannot be used on the lap. It's only the Air and Pros that have a Magic Keyboard with the floating screen. Those take up far less space and can be used on the lap unlike kickstands. The kickstand does provide more angles, so really it all depends on how you want to use it.

    "And for whatever reason the mouse stopped working" ... that's basically the story of why I started using a MBP (along with a few other niceties). Yes, there are things I miss about Windows, but overall, I am just happier with a Mac. My last Windows laptop was the original Surface Book (which was fantastic when it worked right but had random issues ... like disconnecting the tablet from the keyboard randomly). Hopefully the issues are fixed after the updates are installed, but my experience suggests it isn't.
    I am glad MS continues to innovate new products, though. I think their client base and the industry are better off for it. And I'm glad to see Qualcomm has finally made a SoC worth putting into a laptop (or really, anything beyond a smartphone ... that SQ3 was a dumpster fire).

Windows on ARM has been a journey for Microsoft: Surface RT, Surface X, Surface 9 and now Surface Copilot + PC. I think a portable version at 18 inches would be so liable to crack that you'd need to make it quite thick to be strong enough, and then it would end up being petty heavy. I am planning to replace my M1 12.9-inch iPad Pro with a Surface Pro 11 but waiting for 5G models to become available later this year. I agree, you shouldn't buy a Surface Pro 11 for gaming, but I have been surprised how many games I can now run on my Windows Dev Kit 2023, especially now I am running Windows 24H2 release preview with improved x64 emulation, but the Dev Kit has the much weaker Snapdragon 8cx Gen 3 arm processor (as per Surface Pro 9 5G). I can run games such as Genshin Impact and Witcher 3 but did need to preconfigure the display to be borderless window rather than full screen to get the game to open, or in the case of Witcher 3, not to repeatedly crash, which seems like a driver issue. Older games and Indie games such as, Beyond a Steel Sky, Disco Elysium, Cuphead, Songs of Conquest, Tomb Raider I - III remastered, Spelunky I & II, and Kentucky Route Zero all play well. Retro game emulation also works well, as there are Windows arm64 binaries, for emulators such as Dolpin, athersx2, ppsspp, duckstation and dosbox-x, and x86 emulators such as ScummVM, OpenMW - Morrowind, RMG - N64, and mGBA all work well on the Dev Kit, so should be even better on the X Elite processor.

    12:17 Is that why reviews so far only show benchmarks and numbers and stay away from the actual experience of using Windows on these devices?

      Windows is windows. I’m not sure what you mean but the experience is great typically because it’s created by Microsoft for the device.

      @@zollotech Looks like it was just downloading updates in the background and the animation when entering task view was choppy (which is normal for Windows). I was hoping that a powerful hardware could change that. Additionally, I haven't seen reviews showing the speed and experience of opening multiple apps, switching desktops, entering task view with multiple windows, dragging WinUI windows over other windows, that is why I mentioned that reviews show the numbers (benchmarks) and not the actual experience of using the OS, is it any better?.

      USB four by default, supports thunderbolt, but it does support it as well in the spec sheets along with the dock

    MacBook Pro's are the real beasts among laptops. Windows can't compete with the speed, quality software optimization of a MacBook.
