This is typical keyboard behaviour for any Surface Pro since the first version. Usually detach and reattach fixes it, or sometimes you have to shut down the Surface itself. You’d think they’d have fixed it over 11 revisions!
I don’t care if it worked for even 1 second; the fact it froze and required a Windows update (or probably a restart) to fix it is mind boggling to say the least. My primary laptop is a Windows laptop and I face issues every now and then. It’s common.

I have been still using my surface pro 6 and finally broke down and just ordered the pro 11. I had to update my keyboard also as the one I have is too old. However the old 3 power adapters I guess and docking station should work. Anyway the Surface pro blows away any tablet when traveling etc as you can actually work on it for Powerpoint, emails, etc. Sometimes when I had to carry my work laptop and surface pro in my bag it was like nothing to carry. The keyboard is a must and the only negative is that it is expensive. However my old pro6 lasted forever and I expect this new pro11 to last me at least 10 years. Looking forward to using it and being updated.
you are absolutely correct, my Dad had the Surface Book and water poured on the keyboard, we turned it off quickly left it to dry, till today still works
Totally agree, we're still using two Pro 4's and though the batteries are gone, both work fine plugged in and both keyboards are fine - they just need looking after (amazed how badly treated some are that I've seen, then they complain because they're broken). I was going to buy this new one but the price of the keyboard/pen was a dealbreaker unfortunately, just too much especially as I already have 2 of the new pens.

On my current surface tablet, I sometimes detach the KB and leave it off to the side and sometimes, on accident, I hit the keyboard. Im thankful that its not on, but with this new version it works wirelessly - I just want to be able to turn it off completely at times.

that iPad form factor looks so goofy next to the Surface Pro. IMO the kickstand is the single greatest advantage over iPad. Can't believe they haven't "invented" that yet.
You're obviously unfamiliar with iPads since Apple does make kickstand keyboards. The iPad 10'th generation has a keyboard case with kickstand. It takes up a LOT more desk space and cannot be used on the lap. It's only the Air and Pros that have a Magic Keyboard with the floating screen. Those take up far less space and can be used on the lap unlike kickstands. The kickstand does provide more angles, so really it all depends on how you want to use it.
I feel Microsoft needs to work on the choppy UI transitions. They need to ensure those transitions are at least 60fps like on the MacOS. Agreed it will differ on cheaper Windows laptops, but I expect smooth transitions at least on Surface devices.

I am planning to replace my M1 12.9-inch iPad Pro with a Surface Pro 11 but waiting for 5G models to become available later this year. I agree, you shouldn't buy a Surface Pro 11 for gaming, but I have been surprised how many games I can now run on my Windows Dev Kit 2023, especially now I am running Windows 24H2 release preview with improved x64 emulation, but the Dev Kit has the much weaker Snapdragon 8cx Gen 3 arm processor (as per Surface Pro 9 5G). I can run games such as Genshin Impact and Witcher 3 but did need to preconfigure the display to be borderless window rather than full screen to get the game to open, or in the case of Witcher 3, not to repeatedly crash, which seems like a driver issue. Older games and Indie games such as, Beyond a Steel Sky, Disco Elysium, Cuphead, Songs of Conquest, Tomb Raider I - III remastered, Spelunky I & II, and Kentucky Route Zero all play well. Retro game emulation also works well, as there are Windows arm64 binaries, for emulators such as Dolpin, athersx2, ppsspp, duckstation and dosbox-x, and x86 emulators such as ScummVM, OpenMW - Morrowind, RMG - N64, and mGBA all work well on the Dev Kit, so should be even better on the X Elite processor.
