- Furrowing Potatoes With Troy Bilt Tiller is a video showing how easy it is running the Tiller in order to pull dirt upon the potatoes to encourage growth. It also makes it easier to run the troy built tiller through the rows.
When a gardening gorrila speaks, I listen, I buy.
NOTHING beats them ole Troy Built tillers. I miss mine. I bought a used one from an estate sale with all the attachments. I lent it to my friend for one season, (I DIDN'T have space for a garden a the rental I was in) & he thrashed it. The engine blew & made a massive hole in the casing, the furrow attachment was bent, as if it was run over by a car/truck, PLUS The snow blower, & wood chippers were ceased. He left EVERYTHING out in the weather the entire time! I was more than a lil upset! Needless to say, that's the LAST time I ever let him borrow my stuff!
That's bad... because if taking care of these old tillers will last a lifetime. You are right. Never loan him anything.
You can pick up a new engine for it at Harbor Freight for bout $250
@@cob705 Unfortunately, it went to the scrap yard already! If I wasn't som mad, & would have taken time to think things through, I WOULDN'T have sent it there. I should have repaired it.

Nice job! I was going to do a video showing how I use my troybilt horse for hilling potatoes. Just haven't taken the time to do it yet. You did a good representation of how to properly do the job.

Thanks for sharing your video here. I've also got a vintage troy bilt rear tine tiller that I bought a couple of years ago. I haven't used it since then. The rear tines are locked into the rotation mode. So it's kinda hard to get it started. Lol lol. It runs good once you get it started though.

Man, you make that look easy. My Horse will take me for a ride if I am not holding both hands and digging in with both feet. Great video, jus wish I could get my TB Horse to handle that easy.
In the 1980’s my horse use to handle like yours! My issue was my hard as a rock clay soil. Through the years I have planted tilling radishes, cover crops, and added compost. Now my horse goes the soil like a knife goes through melted butter. Good luck and enjoy your gardening adventure. Peace and Love
Your garden is looking amazing David. Don't forget to plant at least one plant of cherry tomatoes. They go so good on salad and they can also be canned. They are sweeter than most slicing tomatoes.. just my opinion.. But I love em.

It’s just hard to beat a Troy built tiller. Mine is a 1963 with a 7hp Kohler and runs Great ! I did just order some new tines . It’s been years since I checked them. They look like knife blades ! I was wandering why it wasn’t digging like it use to. Everything always looks so good with them. Looks good young man.

Thanks for sharing. Can I ask what the center to center spacing is between your middles/rows of the potatoes. I have heard 36" recommended but I find my hiller/furrower attachment seems to scrape various plants more than I would like. I am following how several others space their crops with the H/F attachment but am interested in all approaches. Thanks for any tips in advance.
I've been wondering the best spacing for potatoes to use this. Do you hill just 1 time or more? I like to hill mine 2-3 times if I can.
I want to grt the attachment for mine especially since theres other uses than potatoes

How does furrow/hiller attach? I have one for my troy bilt but have never used it.
It has a pin that slides through a hole close to the depth adjustment bar in the back.

hill them taters when they get 6" high, then repeat again...for your viewers that don't know, taters grow up from the seed tater..plant low to start but not too early so the seed tater don't rot..rule of thumb, no lime and no shit for fertilizer, rule of thumb, whatever you are planting, if you are going to eat the plant{spinach, broccili, etc.} nitrogen is key. on the other hand, nitrogen grows the vegetation, so if you are growing peas, beans, taters, etc., go easy on the nitrogen or you will end up growing a bunch of vines. your welcome
