      All my other Taurus revolvers work with only two as well. It just seems to be this one for me that has some balance issue that keeps the cylinder from rotating. Plan on sending it back again and hoping they will just replace it.

    There are a lot 605 and 856 revolvers with the same issue. The problem is as soon as you slightly pull the trigger, the cylinder rotates out of time before the hand catches the ratchet tooth. Can be fixed by reshaping the hand under the nose so that it sticks out further from the frame. This allows the hand to catch the cylinder/ratchet tooth much sooner.

    I enjoyed the video. a few months ago I bought two Taurus defender revolvers 357mag. a 2and 3 in models. both work flawlessly so far
    I put spring kit's in both. I need to work on center adjusting but if I don't I bought them for close quarters combat. 30 to 45 feet max . I can hold to the right a few inches if I don't fix them. I've in the last 4 or so years bought 3 Taurus revolvers and 4 semi automatic pistols and all 7 work flawlessly. they do the same as all my outher brands of side arms ,work flawlessly and accurately. Very interesting, did you try shooting single action to see if that helps? also you could have loaded 2 rounds opposite side of each other to see if that made a difference. obviously there is a problem with the ratcheting system and headspace. regardless, after all your testing and the return to Taurus for repair, how can you ever trust that gun to work properly. i would ask for all my money back for the gun and reimbursement for all expenses.

      I did not try to counter balance with two other rounds. I'm sure that would have probably helped. Although the problem would occur in single action, it was rare and depended on how quickly I cocked the hammer.

    I'm going to recommend another youtuber to watch this. He is an armor and shoots revolver competition so he may have some insight, but I'm sure it will be limited only seeing it in a video. With my limited knowledge of revolvers it appears that the "push bar" that engages the teeth or gear on the rear of the cylinder is slipping off the gear as it rises. I'm not sure why or why it is doing this with only two rounds as opposed to five rounds. It is frustrating that a nice little DA revolver like this is only working at 50%. I'm really pulling for this issue to be resolved. Thanks for the video. Now i need to watch the Lazy man brisket to see if I can make me one of those on the smoker.

I took it apart and was disgusted by the tool marks and general shabbiness of the construction. I could not repair it and told him to send it back. Dont put your faith in anything under the sun son. All things will fail from time to time. Nothing is 100% except death, taxes, and God. Figure out the mechanics, talk to others over coffee and food. You’d be surprised who might know shit. You’ll create a community or fellowship with 2 or 3 like minded folks. Take it apart, file and sand some stuff. Improvise, adapt, overcome. Just because something doesn’t work don’t give up on it. Everything seems disposable nowadays. There’s gonna be a time when you can’t just send shit back because it’s not 100%. That’s when you call those 3 buddies because you need a firearm to get dinner for the family quickly or because bad guys are creeping around the neighborhood. Again. Adapt, overcome. If you can’t pray.

      @texmexshoots  7 місяців тому

      Thanks for watching George. I've been told that some of the newer models do not have this problem. It's likely an issue with the cylinder stop disengaging too quickly and the gear hand not making enough contact to keep the cylinder from rotating due to the unbalanced weight of the two rounds. Just disappointed they were not able to fix it.

    I watched the last video closely and then was awaiting this video to hear what Taurus Customer Service said.
    Going back in time I carried an issued S&W Model 66 revolver although my department only fired .38 Special reloads for practice, and issued .38+P for duty carry. However, I probably shot my pistol more in 2-years than most deputies shot in a career. Our department armorer took my pistol and “stretched” the craned. He was afraid that at the level of shooting I was doing that the crane might compress under constant use and cause me light hammer strikes or other problems.
    In watching your slow-motion footage, the cylinder begins to move but then stops. I bet this would also happen if you loaded only the two bottom chambers, so there would be two empties to rotate through. But if there is enough weight on the left side chambers it might rotate properly.
    I think what Taurus did was something like stretching the crane so that the hand has enough contract, long enough to rotate the cylinder. Have you shot much .357 Magnum through it, or heavy weight ,38+P? Does the cylinder rotate properly if there are only one or two live cartridge and the other chambers have an empty casing?
    Very sad. I wanted to like and recommend this little pocket pistol.

    • @texmexshoots
      @texmexshoots  Рік тому

      Hey there Frank! I need to do some additional testing with the revolver. If I load five rounds, it seems to work fine. Even with the two loaded, it worked once in a while but not consistently. Maybe if I put one round on the other side to counter balance the cylinder it might function.
      At this point I just don't trust it enough to recommend it as a self-defense revolver. That being said, the Taurus Ultra-lite 38 Spl +P had no issues when only loading two rounds. So maybe it is just my revolver and there is something in the mechanism that isn't quite working.
      I should send it back to Taurus, but I'm not sure I want to deal with the hassle again. So I may just load it with CCI shot shells and keep it for pest control.

    @gidim8367 Рік тому +2

    Okay #1 make Taurus eat this simply out of principle. You have quite good documentation and they simply need to keep working on it and paying for shipping and/or replace the firearm! They should have recreated the initial complaint first, assuming you explained it accurately, prior to working on it. They should have replaced the cylinder stop and plunger simply because it's stupid easy and may help. They should have inspected the hand and star assembly on the cylinder to make sure they are not deformed and interfacing properly assuming the head space was actually corrected(if that was the only issue). Obviously you can gage head space and know that. Those star assemblies can be real rough out of the factory. Star assemblies and hands can make it through manufacturing and assembly deformed. If they are too deformed they will not interface correctly. If there is way too much clearance with head space it simply means the frame is out of spec and they need to replace the firearm. Period!!!! Tell them you're going to document all of this for the world to see. This is how you fix stupid and your firearm. Thanks for you video!

    Hello Tex Mex! New sub today. Looking through the comments, we have a few common friends. I just bought the 3 inch 605 TORO on Monday, and I'm having a different issue. Mine works okay in double action, but when cocking in single action, the cylinder stop is not rising fast enough to lock the cylinder and results in a misfire (or, sometimes I think I'm shaving the side of the bullet in the forcing cone) and noticeable blowback. Your issue was a problem that Gun Sam had and it seems that both of you had no satisfaction with Taurus service. I may just try to fix mine myself...

    • @texmexshoots
      @texmexshoots  Рік тому +1

      Hey there marcthomas2482, thank you for the support! I am sorry to hear about the issue with your 605 Toro. You may want to send it off to Taurus anyway since I have fixed some issues for me in the past. As it is, it should only cost you the time of calling in and getting them to email you a fed ex shipping label. Well, that and getting it to a Fex Ex office. The turn around time was about two weeks and hopefully it will get your issue resolved. At least that is my advice as I am a novice gunsmith at best.
      Keeping my fingers crossed for you that it all gets sorted out!

    You should have repeated the experiment with three spent rounds and two live rounds. My thinking is the weight of three spent rounds is enough to help the cylinder spin to the fourth round. So, it may be an issue of weight causing the cylinder to not function. Otherwise, a good video. I am totally surprised.

    • @texmexshoots
      @texmexshoots  Рік тому +1

      That's a good idea Stephen. Should have thought of that. Although to support your idea I will say that when I fired it with a full cylinder, there were no issues. So at that point the spent casings should have helped balance the cylinder.

      @09Kurtis09 8 місяців тому

      You kinda did when you shot 3 of the 5 rds. Though placing two live rds and an empty in it, closing the cylinder, and firing maybe results in a different outcome.

If the revolver is so delicate that it takes a certain trigger pull for it to function, then in my opinion it is not trustworthy for self defense.

      @@texmexshoots It was bad. I got my 605 home and went to load it and the cylender assembly hit the floor. I freaked. I looked online and that happes a lot. In a fire fight it will get you killed. I was able to find the yoke assembly, (screw, springer and pin) and take it to the range. I will wiggle loose every 40-50 shots. I am holding it in with blue loctite but I have not fired it to test the loctite.
      If the yoke is loose it may cause the cylender to be misassigned. I believe this will result in the bullet getting sheared and causing scrapnel blowback.
      That said you cannot get the yoke screw assembly as Taurus has not had them in some time. I called them and was told that they are on order from the factory and there is no eta

    Headspacing is an entirely too complex of a topic to describe in a simple comment, but to be overly reductive, it is the distance of the case head to the bolt face (the bolt face of a revolver being the recoil shield). Saying that there was a problem with headspace implies too much headspace... in other words, there is too much distance between the back of the cylinder to the back of the frame. I think what they are implying is that the hand had too much play in order to properly drive the cylinder

    • @texmexshoots
      @texmexshoots  Рік тому +1
