I’m 55! My daughter is 34! My granddaughter is 12! The three of us saw Cheap Trick two nights ago! We are in love with Cheap Trick! They are amazing!
I'm 16 and I heard this song on a game called guitar hero I played and I became inlove with it😭
Nice! Did they ladies shout "Cry! Cry! Cry!" during "I want You to Want Me"? Or is that no longer a thing/was only ever a thing in Japan?
I heard cuz of their name they had a problem getting out of the states. Cuz of their name. 😂
I'm 59, and a big cheap trick fan. I was a big fan of them going back to the mid to late 70s. When the dream police came out, I couldn't get enough of it, even till this day.
Saw them with Def Leppard at end of 2018. Bloody brilliant!! Hello there ladies and gentleman - are you ready to rock!!
I drive a cab in Portland. I picked up Rick one day and took him on a short ride across the river into downtown, I didn’t recognize him at first (he’s older and bigger now). We were chatting and he told me his band was playing at the Zoo that night, I said “oh,yeah”? …. What’s your band’s name? He says, Cheap Trick… I almost wrecked my fuggin cab. I told him I was a long time fan and apologized for not recognizing him. He gave me a guitar pick. Cool guy.
Also, Surrender is a rock classic and easily in the top 20 rock songs ever written.
rick is one of the most down to earth and humble guitar players with fame one could meet, he is super super cool to just chat about life with met him years ago just a all around nice guy
A similar thing happen to me on front street in Memphis Tn, he was jogging but i difinitely recognized him the road. He played mud island that weekend and went to see them. There is more crazy stuff the story, but anyway the show was cool. Lost his autograph, oh well. Cool dude.
Cool story. He always seemed like a pretty nice dude.
I would have probably wrecked mine!
Bun E. was such an incredible drummer, no wasted motion. He made it look so effortless.
John Slupski Absolutely! He can play equally as awesome on both left and right-handed set-ups. Sure miss him in the band.
Yeah he was fantastic an exceptional drummer!
And the ever-present cig never dropped from his lips.
Yep. Looked like he hadn't even had his morning coffee yet but was always a fuckin' non-robotic metronome with great style.
he played the perfect parts always, suited the tune, not too flashy but effective. gotta respect that, like
phil rudd from ACDC. i love progressive drummers but this also sits nicely with me.
I had a near death experience during brain surgery and my Spirit came back to my body to cheap trick’s”miracle song!!!cheap trialing with God’s grace brought me back to life!
glad you're still here
Glad it wasn’t the dream police song - lol
Amazing
Rock on
You've got til you're 65 to get it done kid
Love Ben x
What makes Cheap Trick a great band. They sing for the love and passion of the music. No glam, glitter, pyrotechnics and BS. They made the BEST videos. Their singing is effortless. This is what happens when you put the right people together. Only once in a lifetime. Im glad it was my lifetime.
What I love about this band is that they don't take themselves too serious and pump out great music at the same time. Not too many bands can do that.
Yep. Cheap Trick showed us 70's kids that arena rock can actually be FUN without taking yourself seriously. By the late 70's I was so fed up with all the 'serious' rock stars and their pose. Rock had reached a point where the band members thought themselves godlike and untouchable to the teeming masses. I started getting more into the (then) new punk and new wave bands around that time, but Cheap Trick was an exception. Even after I dove headfirst into hardcore punk I still kept waving the banner for CT. They always put the music and the energy ahead of the dumb rock star mystique. Still a great band to this day (though I really miss Bun E Carlos).
Saw these guys 3 times back in the day. Never failed to entertain. Great energy
Yeah, I had no idea Rick Nielsen is so weird until I watched this video. It's so out of place for this music, but I think that really adds to the fun.
That's just the image they sold. If you dont take your music SERIOUSLY you don't become so famous that 40 yrs later people still come out to see you.
No bands can do that. Except this one.
Saw them last week . Robin looks very , very good and sounds great as ever . The band still has it 40 years later .🤩
More like 45 years later
See in them next week in Sydney so happy!!!
@@bernicehenry9738 have fun !
Saw them in 2015 and sounds the same! Luv them!!
Gotta love a real great band that survived through the 70’s AND 80’s,
And still rocking!
The music sounds poppy
but the words are twisted.
That's why Cheap Trick is something special.
From a time I was young. Felt like I would live forever. Now at 60 it feels like yesterday and brings back memories.
You're just a kid. Try 73....
Their music proves time travel is possible. I put their music on and close my eyes. I'm instantly transported back in time. When the world was a far better place
I close my eyes and I'm 15 again, losing my cherry way too young--to the great delight of the boys in my small, land-locked, flyover-country town. They had no idea it was Robin and Tom I was giving it up for.
Cheap Trick were the logical extension of everything that made our parents, principals, priests and pastors fear for our virgin souls. God bless them and thanks for leading us girls like me down that stray path!
I have no regrets and I've never looked back....❤
I've always felt the amazing Robin Zander was one of the most under-recognized vocalists of our time.
This was one of the first albums I paid for out of my own pocket when I was a kid and it was first released. Drove my parents, and neighbours, crazy playing it as loud as possible on Dad's 'Stereogram'. The irony is here I am 50 yrs later, suffering complex PTSD, and being haunted by bad dreams. The innocence of youth and the cards life deals us.
Are you a veteran? The timing sounds like it. If it applies, I hear you and understand. 'Nam (USN) 1972...
@@jamespobog3420 Not a Vietnam Vet, too young. Military Service and 25 yrs in Law Enforcement. Many years working as a Forensic Ballistics Expert as well as on the street. Seen my share of guns, bullets, and bodies and post mortem examinations. As well as all the suicides, fatal car accidents, decomposed long term deceased bodies and all the pleasures of dealing with the live bodies. Hanging up my gear each shift and heaving a sigh of relief because I was in one piece. (Don't confuse me with the idiot Police Officers who feature greatly on YT. A lot has changed in the 20 yrs since I was doing it. I shudder when I see how some Police behave today).
I have a lot of Vietnam Vet friends, mostly former colleagues who went into law enforcement after their military service ended. You and I are part of the club who understand what it's like to be used up by the machine then tossed away like a dirty rag when we cease to be of use. One of my good Viet Vet mates (3RAR 67-68 and survived FSB Coral-Balmoral), summed it up one day in two quotes:
"C-Rations are full of sugar and salt - it keeps you angry".
"I hate civilians, they just don't get it".
He's one of the few people who understands me, sounds like you do too. Take it easy brother and thanks for your support.
@@jamespobog3420 I'm a veteran of 23 years in law enforcement in Sydney Australia. I worked in Forensic Ballistics as well as on the streets. My career was mostly guns, bullets and bodies. As a Vet mate of mine, who survived FSB Coral & Balmoral (1967-68) Bien Hoa, says, 'I hate civilians, they just don't get it'. Or 'C-rations are full of sugar and salt...it keeps you angry.'
Most of my former colleagues are damaged goods. The glossy posters don't tell you what you're in for when you retire. Thanks for your concern. 🇦🇺
@@jamespobog3420 Mate, I have responded to your question twice, detailing my background, and twice the message has been deleted by YT. I have no idea as to why. So I'll just say thanks for your concern.
Edit: I'm a Veteran First Responder with a background in Forensics as well. I was too young for the draft. Some military experience also. I've seen my share of suicides, fatal accidents, guns, bullets and bodies. Post Mortems backed up with District and Supreme Court experience. The glossy recruitment brochures never tell you that by age 40 you will be damaged goods.
Sorry for your suffering! I thank you for your service ❤️ Hopefully the days of war will be over soon. God bless you ❤
The drummer is timeless. He's like straight out of the office.
Watch “The Rocker.” It will make you respect your own comment even more.

@@mikethegrunty5968
HAHAHAHA..
40 years and it just keeps sounding even better!
Timeless track
That's what timelines music is
This is one of those songs that truly defined the times, during which it came out. I hear it, and I instantly picture myself at school in the eighth grade, and remember how it felt to be me at that time. It's not like I was a Cheap Trick fan, but I will forever associate this song with 1979-1981. (Nostalgic sigh.)
And listening to it 40 years later, it is a solid rock & roll tune.
Right there with you
I get it so much! '79 I turned 13 halfway through the 8th grade!
Well said! Very evocative song.
Yup. Big sigh. 💫
The charm of Robin Zander....the charisma of Rick Neilsen.
We needed this comment. Thank you so much for the Fast Times quote. Lol
The ambidexterity of Bun E. Carlos.
"That's kid stuff!"
What about the tunes? I want you to want me!!!
@Joe-wo7rg mommy's alright daddy's alright they just seem a little weird surenda surenda...........
Happy 71st Birthday Robin Wayne Zander!(Born January 23, 1953)😃🥳🎂🎉🎊🎈🎁🍾🥂👍👏🙌
I don't think I have ever seen a drummer make it look so effortless before. He is smooth!!!!!
Big Mike is talking well said
He is smooth on those skins. Reminds me of Cesar Zuiderwijk , drummer for Golden Earring. He bangs them like a well oiled machine.
Smooth, and yet one of the hardest hitters ever. I'll never forget seeing them on this tour, with Sweet. Bun E's kit was literally shaking so hard it was blurry! Of course Bun E just maintained his cool throughout the entire set, but I swear if his drums weren't bolted to the riser they would have gone flying in every direction
@@Brewzerr A lot of these guys are way, way strong, especially with their drum strokes.
Such a fun music video. Tom is so adorable, and I think he's in my top 5 of favorite bassists. I love how Cheap Trick lets the bass shine instead of hiding it under the vocals, synths & guitar. These boys know how to rock and how to have fun, and they're still killin' it in 2024. I've never seen them live, but I really hope to very soon!
Love Tom… great bassist & handsome too 😊
@debbycottingham9283 Sooo handsome, lol, great smile 😊
@ I completely agree!!
I really have to thank Guitar Hero for developing my taste in music
Guitar Hero: World Tour got me into Tool - I was already hip to Cheap Trick ; ) .
Dude if it wasn’t for guitar hero, I wouldn’t be pursuing a music career nor my taste wouldn’t be as diverse
@@yle99624 A lot of younger dude say the same thing guitar hero talking about all kinds of music that's pretty cool. Those of us who were old enough in the eighties we had the option every day to listen to music from all over the universe it was cool as hell. But it's nice when I see younger guys or women saying similar things they found all these bands they never would have playing guitar hero definitely cool. Rock on
it was gutair hero aerosmith i believe this was an ost. its one of the first 3 songs played in story mode too. ill always remember this being one of the first songs that i heard in that game. playing other games like II and III, i had too much of a taste in metal and grunge n when i heard cheap trick i was at first wasnt sure that i liked it. but that usually happens for alot of stuff we grow to like. it also made me like them more when i found out they hail from illinois. my home state:)
Same here man
Oh yeah.BUN E...One of the best in rock.HE HAS HIS OWN STYLE!!

Watching you.
Robin is so adorable.🥰 Who else watched this on early MTV?👍
@🤘🏻🤘🏻🎸 🎸 😊
I first saw them in a smallish bar in Madison, Wisconsin, sometime in 1978, before they hit the bigtime. I knew they were destined for fame.
thats awesome
Lucky barber, Jeffrey.
Interesting, but not surprising , that you could hear that.
Actually, I meant “lucky bastard, Jeffrey”(in a warmly envious way)
By '78 they were already huge in Japan, and they were starting to take off pretty quickly here in the states. Surrender made a small splash on the charts that summer. I was already into them by then, but I didn't get to actually see them until the following year, on this tour, with Sweet at the Sam Houston Coliseum in Houston. One of the top 10 best shows I've ever been to in my life. However I did finally get to see them at a bar many years later, in '97 at Stubb's BBQ in Austin. That show was almost as good.
Played Summerfest a ton of times in the 70s and 80s.
I still love how the most played part of this video's is Robin lineup scene. 🤣😍😍
I blame my hippie sister for turning me on to this when I was a punk kid in the '70s. Thanks Barbara!
THE TOP 100
Robin has such a great voice. Cheap Trick rocks!
Very underrated.
He had one the best voices in rock..
Hands down...
They still haunt me til this day. Cheap Trick. With this. Why we lived the American music scene 40 years ago.
Lived and loved
Nobody has ever done better covers of Beatles songs. I don't mean that they do the most servile imitation, but that they catch the spirit in a way nobody else has done.
Who's still here in 2024? These guys provided the soundtrack to my later teen years, and I've been a fan for ages. Still go out of my way to see them live whenever I can. That's how good they are live, decades later.
Takes me back to 1979 I was 12 years old and man this who album still rule 💯 I'm 56 years old and I'm so blessed to have seen cheap trick so many times! They always bring there A game always 💯 cheap trick Life!
bun is such a chad… draggin his cig while at the same time bangin his drums
It’s 2021.. still loving this with the awesome old school music power of classic rock ‘n roll.. call the Dream Police.
Listening in 2022
I was so happy to hear that they are gunna Tour Australia this Year Wooohooo
AND the songs still hold water, and the bands still touring!🤘🏻
Cheap trick the most under rated band in classic rock a band my pop loved to hate and part of the Styx/Foreigner/Cheap Trick triumvirate
Best Pop band since the Beatles
I've never seen this! So cooool!!!! My 1st concert was these guys and Molly Hatchet....1980 Boise Ihadahore
Bun E. ABSOLUTELY KILLS IT with those drum fills in that middle part! The way he orchestrated the fills to build tension - then fills to go back into the chorus to release the tension is SO SWEET, man... l dig that shit!!...
This brings back memories I am 50 and we used to listen to these guys back then
One of the great American rock bands of all time...these guys live just kill it!
Zander on vocals......amazing ! Neilson on guitar..... mind blowing ! Petersen on bass and back up..... awesome ! Bunny Carlos on drums..... goddamn this band is Bad Ass !!
Actually its a very young Lukather on guitar, uncredited.
One of the best front-men in rock and roll history. I used to see them live in the Chicago area before they got signed to do their first album.
I saw Cheap Trick at the Rainbow music hall in Denver in 78, or 79. Great show. Wish we still had those concerts.
For those who didn't grow up listening to this band, you won't understand their propably considered the first alternative band or punk.traditioal rock an roll with a twist. Spawned more bands like the cars and others. Simply awesome!
Pat M Lots of people give more credit to motley crue for opening the doors when in fact CHEAP TRICK RIPPED THEM OFF THE HINGES AND GRABBED YOU BY THE THROAT WITH THEIR GENIUS.
🐱🐼 Power PoP
Cheap Trick were fantastic but .... saying they opened the door for the Cars is just BS.
The Stooges were actually the first proto-punk band. But CT certainly influenced other artists in their wake, for sure.
As much as I love Cheap Trick... I mean, they've been one of my top 5 favorite bands for about 43 years now... I gotta say no to this. There were *SOOO* many other bands before this that kicked the doors down for punk and 'alternative' music. I mean, where to begin? A good starting point would be the mid 60's with bands like the Velvet Underground, 13th Floor Elevators, and the Sonics (among many others). In the late 60's and early 70's there was the Stooges, MC5, New York Dolls, Modern Lovers, Droogs, Flamin' Groovies, etc... and then punk pretty much kicked off in '75, at least in NYC -- two whole years before Cheap Trick even had their first album out. Punk bands like the Dictators and the Ramones had albums out before Cheap Trick did.
I'll tell ya what CT should be credited for, and that's making arena rock FUN again. They proved to the world that big time rock bands don't have to take themselves too seriously to be successful. They made it accessible at a time when most rock stars thought themselves godlike and untouchable. They were kind of like the missing link between big arena rock and punk/new wave attitude
Saw cheap trick open for foghat in 78'. both bands were great. guess how much the general admission ticket was ? FIVE BUCKS!
I paid 5 bucks to see Genesis in 1976 , We sure got our moneys worth back then!!
Blows my mind. 1979: Joe Blow Productions Presents ZZTop. Six bucks. Today: Budweiser, Mountain Dew, Chevrolet and Skoal present ZZTop. EIGHTY bucks.
Bun e Carlos
And a bag of good Columbian was $20, ahhh , those were very good times
$5.00 in 1978 is equal to $20.00 in 2018. $20.00 is still a good price for a concert ticket, better than $80.00 any day! 🤘
these guys definitely carved out their own piece of rock history. Getting past the hits that you hear on the radio, they were a tight band. Hearing this song takes me quickly back to being a kid on the 70's. Good times and great music with the likes of these guys, Sabbath, Judas Priest, Pink Floyd, and the list goes on and on..
mhadman Damn straight.Remember getting together on a friday night and loading the car up with friends and rocking to this song all the way to the drive in.Best times ever.MISS THEM OH SO MUCH.
Budokan forever rocks!
They had great songs like this but then radio garbage in the 80's
Julie Budakan got us American rockers to realize how great a 4 guy band can be.
I Like how the drummer is always jamming out with lit cig lol
These guys and my Walkman got me home more than a few nights circa 84'. 1AM, 9 miles, pocket full of batteries and cassettes, 20 below. Jackson Wyoming winters....

They were more 70s than 80s . By the 80s they were well known

The 70s and 80s had the most kick ass music. I was 9 years old when this song came out and I remember my older brothers cranking this song up on the stereo for me.
Late 70's would be more accurate.. one of my favorite high school 8 tracks!
love the laid back drummer
The legendary Bun E. Carlos.

Surrender was an ultra huge hit for these guys. Before DJs bands at school dances always played it. Those were the days..no cell phones, no internet, microwaves were still a novelty, your dad had either bought VHS or Beta, and very few people had cable yet. Wow, how is it that life sucks now?
Because of sin ... the more technology the more dumbed down and hard hearted the heart gets
There is a spirit in this world that is getting bolder and is using the technology to take over the hearts and minds of the young and naive.
That’s how.

Im so amazed how 2 gorgeous long haired rockstars, a conservative accountant playing drums & a genius man child playing guitar came to form Cheap Trick! Well it certainly worked for them as they are in the Rock and Roll hall of fame and their music rocks!
This was the very first video I ever saw way before MTV was born. I think I saw it on Kasey Kasem's Top Ten TV show...I love the intro to this video, great group to see in concert!
I remember seeing this video on HBO (when it was still just billed as "Home Box Office") back then. In those days, there would be these long gaps between movies where they would either show student art films or music videos, and this video got a lot of play
I love how the bass player sings along with Robin on every song! You can tell he loves his job!

I was 11 years old when Dream Police was released, which at the time, was very popular. I would hear it being played on the jukebox in my school cafeteria almost everyday. This was my first introduction to Cheap Trick, who became one of my most favorite bands of all time. Dream Police,in my opinion,is the quintessential song that displays the great talent of all the members in Cheap Trick, especially Bun E. Carlos who has often been overlooked for being an excellent drummer. His drumming is impeccable as the song reaches a crescendo with the string section.
Robyn makes it look so easy 🤘
I saw them play this song in St. Louis in 2018, and I plan to see them live again this year (2024) in the exact same venue. I hope they play it again.
I'm here from the future. They did an amazing job, the rocked their hearts out! They're still an 11/10.

This group is amazing. Their look is unique. Two good looking guys and two good guys that look like regular people. The drummer is so smooth and skillful. They work on so many levels. The regular looking guys are sexier because they play so well.
How is this not the absolute best music video of all time, or at least a generation? Because those awards are shite.
I still love these guys, even tho I haven't seen 'em play live since the late-seventies/early-eighties. I did manage to catch 'em a buncha times during those early yrs, however. Great memories of a great rock n roll band! I think my 9th/10th-grade boyfriend turned me onto CT. Thanks, Gregg!
Cheap Trick holds a weird and special place in my heart.
They were all I kept in my Walkman through the Gulf War.
Me, my M60 and Cheap Trick riding my turret.🤘🏻
1BAT9MAR Bravo Co.
Cool! But I thought you guys drove around in tanks cranking I Get Around 😋
10-4 DADDY, Tanks for your service! SemperFI!
Ty all, even though the wars were criminal banker bullshit, you guys didn't know. Cheers.
Back in the 80's I was a bartender at a popular bar in Royal Oak. One of my customers was a light guy for the Venue that Cheap Trick was playing. He asked me if I wanted to "shadow him" meaning I could follow him on his duties. I said sure, what the hell. I didn't charge the guy a dime for his tab and I saw Cheap Trick from the rafters! Best seats in the house.
emotionalinvalid I remember you at batting practice with Hammering Hank.
That’s awesome
Wow
That's an awesome story.
@@jleffel6969 Gusoline Alley, I think it's still there. Back when I worked there it was voted as having "The best Jukebox" in Detroit.
My dad loved Cheap Trick and saw them in concert. RIP dad.
My dad too:)
Do yourself a favor and go see them this year, they're still touring!
@@drea4195 I'm seeing them in August
Thank you. Look and appreciate the understatements of Cheap Trick. Only for the true.
Saw these guys live in New Orleans just a few years ago. Killer show.
Bun E Carlos, the world's most casual drummer.
There was nothing casual about the way he beat those fucking skins like a redheaded stepchild with sticks as thick as a billyclub. He kept his cool but he was one of the hardest hitting drummers I've ever seen live
The first cassette I bought was Live at Buddakon. My favorite band.
