Fun fact about djinn/genies, the three wishes thing is actually a modern invention. In a lot of old arabic stories, there’s no mention of djinn having a limited number of wishes they can grant. But usually you don’t want to make too many because they’ll try to kill you.

      Interesting.
I've never actually read any of the Arabian Nights (I can't even pronounce Scheherazade without looking it up every time), so the original djinn stories are a complete blank wall for me.

They also looked nothing like their modern depictions, usually most often represented in historical works as wizened old men with multiple sets of wings, a parody of similar depictions of angels.
And yet Wishmaster is the only franchise that ever got it right.

2:44: Fun Fact!: In the US English Dub for "the Smurfs and the Magic Flute", Peewit was played by Cam Clarke, who would later go on to do a more notable character, playing Leonardo in the Fred Wolf "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles" Cartoon Series. Honestly, I find Cam Clarke's Peewit more suitable in character, but I'm not sure if you're gonna like Cam Clarke's take on the character either.
22:38: Speaking of SpongeBob, here's a sidenote: Mermaid Man was voiced by Ernest Borgnine, who previously paired up with Tim Conway in McHale's Navy.

It has been DECADES since I last saw 'Magic Flute'. I only remember being puzzled as to why the voices were "wrong".

Do you also know that he was Liquid Snake in the Metal Gear series? I didn’t, but Stuart K. Reiley highlighted that in “The Voice of Feces” a video that talks about some familiar voices and how they affect our pop culture (even in the YTP community).
BTW, I would share the Smurfs movie I mentioned before, if we’re to personally look over the differences in voices between Frank Welker and Cam Clarke’s takes on Peewit.

Great video, but you're information about Fireball McPhan is incorrect. Fireball wasn't a student athlete, he was an Olympic athlete. Also, both Fred and Mr Teller make mention of him having been a legendary athlete before his disqualification.

      Well, ****. You're right.
It took me a bit of scrubbing through the video but I found the bit you're talking about.
The first mention of McPhan's past said he "could" have won Olympic events but was disqualified for cheating, which I took to mean he would have had a good future once he entered the Olympics. It wasn't until much later in the episode that Griffith was said to be an Olympic judge before he was a principal.
Of course, that bit could have been made up by Finster as part of their plan to explain why McPhan would be haunting the school, but I concede.

I predicted that Abdullah would have got a hight score for design (I noticed the similarity with a night of fright is no delight but I tought that personally this scheme had enough uniqueness between power being the goal instead of money and having real magic at his disposal, but I guess that's only original if you limit yourself at Scooby Doo *look at Aladin*) but a 1 operation score. That's the definition of wasted potential, even if for some reasons he couldn't directly wish for the throne, limiting his scare tattics at creepy sounds most of the time when you have a litteral genie is patetic. Jadal could have simiply manifest in fornt of the sultan and tell him to leave and he would have no choice but obbey, or he could have even teleport him outside. There have been normal humans much more intimidating in this franchise. A bit sad that you had to give a neutral outfit score but it make sense. With Charlie you used his design for outfit even if he would have normally counted as a prop but here using Jadal's design wouldn't have made much sense because Charlie at least was still designed by Jenkins, while here Abdullah had no control on how Jadal looks.
I also predicted a 5 on Fireball'a outfit and while i didn't have the knowledge to be 100% sure i tought they could get an hight design score as well. Such a shame that their operation was so bad. He is still one of my favourite villains of the New Scooby Doo Show, below the Shark Men (in terms of personal preference i mean) and close to the Ghost of the Red Baron and the Ghost of Captain Moody, more the Don Knott version tough even if he wasn't really a villain (he don't have competition tough...) and it's also one of my favourite episode yet. One of the very few time trying to solve the mistery was fun and engaging and the solution was satisfying, a lot of times it was either impossible since you had never seen the villan, blatantly obvious or they didn't even bother keeping it a mistery. The twin brother thing feels a bit cheap but I suspected the principal so i wasn't that far off and you can recognize him tied up before the reveal so it still works. There is also a nice forshadowing even if i didn't noticed it at my first view. Also it isn't blatantly obvious that there where two villain and that's what kept me a bit unsure of who was the coulprit at first since most suspect appeared while you could see a villain lurking from somwhere, altough knowing this series I feared that could have been a mistake (and I think there still was one... I could be wrong, but I think there is a point in wich one of the gost creashed into the men in the controll pannel but the othe ghost was already chasing Fred Daphne and Velma, that's why I tought it was a projection at first). There was even a point in wich I tought the ghost could have actually been the real Fireball since there are both precedents (Captain Cutler) and later instances (Rude Boy from Mystery Incorporated, Stealing Stan from Be Cool and maybe others) of this, but I dismissed it when it became clear the goal was money and not revenge and that there where two villains.
I also still have one question: why the villain started operation the escavators early if they school wasn't yet closed and they still hadn't the freedom to tear it down, and what was even the point of having the remote controlled if they where going tk buy the school and tear it down "legally". Also i am just now noticing that they say "their backers" would buy the school so that's another instance in wich the villains had accomplishes who got away with it.
Last thing, I was thinking, maybe instead of giving a neutral scorre to villains with no costume it would be fairer to give no score and vote only the two cathegories that apploes, design and operation? Beacuse giving a neutral score is still penilizing in some way, a villajn that chose to not use a costume for underatandable reasons (Abdullah really didn't need one objectivly) could never reach a perfect sore even if they plan and exectute their scheme perfectly. At the same time tpugh j kinda unsterdand that a Scooby Doo villain need a costume or something equivalent to be a perfect villain since even if is not always need in universe for a meta prospective that's what define them (after all the originallity is also not that important in universe) so on second tought the neutral score make sense.

Something that I forgot, i think the villain took controll of the school to more easly install their projectors freely, but it was still risky. Also the millionare claim he was trying to scare them off for their own safety, but for a non cop it still come off as weird.
Also something that I forgot from the second video, i personally wouldn't count what the villains from the globettrotter episode did to Shaggy as attempted murder because it's shown in universe to be not letal. In real life it would have been, but if the world operate on cartoon physic is possible the villain did knew that he wouldn't be letal. It's different from other thinhs like Velma being almost sawed in half by the Snow Ghost or Shaggy almost eaten by lions by the Ghost Clown because that's clearly treated as mortal danger by the characters. To me if the villain manage to do what he wanted and the characters survive it mean it isn't letal in this universe. I also iffy with what Bigfoot did, but is possible he was trying to down them and they where rescued in time and is just the led poisoning that doesn't apply in this universe. Is Fred who pull them out, he would have left them here so yeah, even with cartoon logic it still look like attempted murder.

      @JoeGoesOver  Рік тому

As for just ignoring the outfit scoring when the villain doesn't use one, it seems you answered your own question: with few exceptions, to be a proper Scooby-Doo villain, you need a disguise. Otherwise, you're just a generic bad guy.
It doesn't make sense for the villains to have operated the construction equipment the way they did because it's not like they were in the middle of doing any remodeling at that point, though it was mentioned later that "hiring" equipment from Teller's company was in an attempt to frame him. But overall, there was no good reason for the bulldozer and other machines to be there yet.

@@JoeGoesOver yeah I realized the point for the disguise halfway trough writing it but I decided to keep the thinh anyways to see if you agreed with me. I usually tend to think this video as racing the villain on how effective he is in unoverse and I think that's true for the most part but for some things like the costume and the originality you also look from on outside prospective. It may not alwyas help to have a costume, let alone an original one inuniverse, but it makes it much better for us!
Yeah as I tough for the bulldozers too, I get the framing but it was still pointles, they wheren' going to take down the school untill they have buyed it, at wich point they would have no reason to pretend the tools where haunted since they where doing it legally.

19:05-19:12 which leads me to wonder, is Scooby even a real dog? And I’m not talking about Mystery Incorporated, my brain didn’t pay attention during that one and even then we know it’s only one continuity. I’ve decided to go the MatPat route and theorize the possibility that the Doo family could potentially have human DNA in them, or in an even darker route, be humans who were cursed to turn into talking dogs and then slowly lose their humanity to the point where they essentially become sentient talking dogs with both human and dog traits. Good thing the Scooby writers were born long before I was, cause I will not let them steal my idea, as I will make it myself..

When I do my analyses, I tend to try and put whatever I'm talking about in perspective at the time it was produced (unless I'm specifically pointing out how badly it aged).
Growing up in the 1970s and 1980s, it's difficult to hear "Iran" without thinking about the Hostage Crisis.
But I agree whole-heartedly that most of the time, a country's bad reputation is usually due more to the government that seized control rather than the rank-and-file civilians living there, who are often targeted daily by said government.

"YABBLE DABBLE!" Does he have to be the stereotyped "Fat and/or Dumb" character? What is it with characters that are designed as overweight and with little to no intelligence? I can think of several, Curly from the Three Stooges, Babu from this episode and the cartoon about Jeannie, Mungo from Heathcliff and the Cadillac Cats, Big the Cat from Sonic, why is this combination so common?? 😂

It helps if you remember the time in which they occurred.
These days, with the food industry having essentially destroyed our health with the advent of putting refined sugar in almost literally everything we eat, obese people are an everyday occurrence.
While "fat" people weren't exactly unheard of prior to the 1980s, they weren't everywhere like they are now. Thus, they often became an object of amazement, followed shortly by ridicule.
We think of Curly Howard as "the fat one", but if you were to run into him on the street and not accompanied by Moe or Larry, his weight wouldn't really appear that striking, would it?

Not that it’s his fault, he just falls under the same issue as Shaggy and Scooby-their ability to be shipped with any female character regardless of whether it’s good or bad writing..

Come to think of it: wish granting beings existing (on top of entities like the cat god I like to bring up) would actually be a very cheap way of explaining away every single inconsistency or factual fallacy that happens in Scooby-Doo. Kinda hard to have consistent history or rules of nature when you can have someone just wish it to get altered, or a deity decides it wants to make zombies roam the place. But I doubt the Hanna-Barbera producers of Scooby-Doo would ever have bothered to even use such a lazy way of explaining away their own blunders. That said, I would have liked to see them seriously try, just because the laziness would have been very entertaining.
I would also like seeing it explored as a theme how these clearly supernatural forces actually stay in some sort of balance with one another. While I can't clearly understand the logic of wish granting immortal magical beings, feline/furry gods, goblin kings and ghouls, and whatever the heck that eldritch abomination Crystal cove was terrorized by, it would be fascinating to see some sort of explanation for how they all intermingle/balance, and don't continuously step on each other's toes. Or what happens if one steps out of line and flips the tables? Say for the sake of an argument that eldritch thing in Crystal Cove wasn't stopped by Mystery Inc, and went on a rampage - what would the other supernatural beings do in the face of such a blatant act of aggression that tramples on all the (no doubt) existing agreements of conduct?

Well I thought both of theses episodes were weak especially for Tim Conway being in this episode was pointless and I didn’t find the ghost of Fireball McFey that scary but the eyes were very abnormal but I did watched the Equaliser 3 where the villains were planning to make casinos
When you get the Mama Cass Eliot episode do you think that the Green Globs are the inspiration for the Cotton Candy Glob the villain that Shaggy and Scooby willingly killed?
The Sultan’s uncle got a fate worse than death there as that
I did know that Mark Hamill was in this episode before Star Wars but I did not know that Bob Hastings was in this episode but I did know that he was in the Super Friends before Commissioner Gordon and what was that where the guys ears bleed?
Also for the next I figure that the Speed Buggy episode the bad guys look like Baron Zemo and it seems like something from John Carpenter’s the Fog

    • @JoeGoesOver
      @JoeGoesOver  Рік тому +1

Tim Conway was a surprisingly weak guest star this time around. Most of the time he was just in the scene with the Gang and not really contributing much.
As the two live-action Scooby films were written by James Gunn who has a penchant for dredging up old, forgotten characters in film and television, it wouldn't exactly surprise me if he was inspired by the Mama Cass episode.
I agree about Abdullah's punishment. I'm claustrophobic AF, and the thought of being trapped like that in a sealed container is nightmare fuel!
The Yapple Dapple victim is Dick Van Patten from Mel Brooks' 1977 film, 'High Anxiety'. It's an underrated gem from Brooks and honestly, probably my favorite of all his movies- even more than 'Blazing Saddles' and 'Young Frankenstein'!
