- In this video, I show you my new (to me) Range Rover Supercharged. I'm sure I might regret this one, but here goes...

The rust in the rear wheel arches is due to the mud sitting between the arch liner and the metal work. The mud enters from with in the wheel arch and has nothing to do with the rubber strip on the door.
Best thing is to remove the liners every so often and jet out the back side of the metal work and it will not rust on you.
These cars as well as range rover sport first gen are not that unreliable as many people think... People tend to use these car without paying attention how to properly maintain Range rover .
I have had my full fat for four years and love it to bits. I haven't had any reliability issues, it gets me to where I need to be, it tows, takes the fam away on holidays and plays "posh motor" when needed. I do service more frequently than Land Rover suggest and I have owned quite a few plus other LR products so know that these vehicles are no less reliable than any other large 4 X 4 or modern SUV.
I've had mine for 6 months now and I absolutely love it. I had the right front air strut (£500 fitted) go but the rest had already been replaced. It's an 07' but the 3.6 V8 ands it suits me fine. Had an intercooler hose blow (£45 but I eplaced both) A bit of welding on the front and rear sub frame (300). Rear brake pads (£60 fitted) New tyres were fitted before I bought it and the brake servo had been replaced . Absolutely loving it so far. Good luck with yours, I plan to get the paint sorted, hopefully short of a full respray as there isn't much rust on it tbh considering it had been parked up for 3 years prior to my purchasing it, it had only done 500 miles in the previous 4 years.
Bit of advice for your Range Rover. Get your gearbox oil flushed once every 10 -15,000 miles and it will last forever.
It turns out its a crucial service requirement, that I didn't know about, Recon Gearbox £2500, at Only 100,000 miles on the clock
Great Video mate! 👍🏻
Really relaxed style to your channel, really easy to binge watch!
Ah mate thank you! Such kind words :)
BMW, Merc, Audi, Volvo. Owned them all over the years but my car of choice - The Range Rover. It's as reliable as the others, in fact, better then many of them. But none can match that feeling of luxury, status and satisfaction you get when you're behind the wheel of a the RR.
Nail on the head!
I’ve had two… loved them but just couldn’t afford all the upkeep… my number one choice when I win the lottery though… good luck 🤞🏻
Great video mate 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Nice score mate! In Australia we have Ford model known as a Territory. I bought a 2012 awd version privately with 267k on the clock. As you are doing, I started catching up with the maintenance. The first thing I did was change the automatic transmission oil and filter. The reason I am sharing this is this. For some bizarre reason there is a belief that these ford gearboxes are sealed for life! This is the biggest BS I have ever come across... But I continually hear it. Right from the first oil/filter change there was a big improvement with everything about the gearbox. I often joke 80% of the noise disappeared in 80 metres. I have since changed the oil 2 More times and placed 5 niobium magnets in the pan, which are doing a great job. I now have 302k on the clock, have travelled the the Great Central Road from Perth to Uluru pulling an off road trailer it has been fantastic. I truly hope that you can get to enjoy your Rangey as much. I probably should have looked into that market.
That’s great to hear! Interestingly, I nearly bought a Territory here in the UK a few months ago, but slightly unusual photos put me off.
Transmission oil and filter is next on the list 👍
@@carsandcustard oh yeah I forgot to mention. In the distant past I did quite a bit of dealership work in between heavy engineering jobs. A product I am sure you can get in the UK to help with your electric windows is "Mr Sheen". Squrit it into the window runners and run your finger into the groove all around, squirt a bit more in and then run the window up and down a few times to get it onto the glass. Put the window up and clean the glass with metholaded spirits and paper towels. Repeat as required, usually lasts about 3 months. For whatever reason it seems to be better than other silicone products for this purpose. Hope it helps for you.
For life indeed doesn't exist. Then a century and 10 million miles shouldn't be a problem. Had the gearbox of my 2008 town&country with 270k kilometers flushed last week. Doesn't even make that much difference but is simply needed maintenance.
@@carsandcustard Replace the rear Diff oil as well. It's just as important and a very easy job. But very important to check the upper socket bolt can be removed first before undoing the lower one, that drains the oil. Or obviously you wont be able to refill the Diff once drained.
I've recently bought an '05 SC and first thing I did was remove the tints! Got about 4k in it now. 100k miles and all fluids changed. Subbed 👍
Fantastic to hear, thanks for watching and subscribing!
The rust on the rear wing where the arch meets the bumper will end up in holes once the paint and rust is removed, remove the cill cover where it meets the arch and you will be able to put your fingers or hand into a rust hole , all repairable but better to prevent than cure , but to late once you see rust
I'm petrified for you. But you also have my respect and admiration. I hope all goes well. You're going to need deep pockets that are filled with gold.
They won’t be filled with gold for long! 😂
Make sure you got another £3000 in a jamjar for a rainy day fund. When it goes wrong, you can see, I used the word when not if it goes wrong, it will cost you a bloody fortune you’ll be smiling until the moment you get a quote from the Garage and you will no longer ever be smiling. I have had many range rovers through the years as company vehicles have worked for many companies that had them as company vehicles for the bosses, and when they come brand-new from Jaguar Land Rover, they spend more time back at the main dealers been fixed under warranty at times more time in the car with the customer being used. Yes all cars are unreliable at times, but when you pay the premium that these cost brand-new back in the day and even still open till today with the new vehicles, they should not go wrong like they do.
Yes I’ve got one the same year with 128k on the clock & two tone seats. I agree it’s the best engine. Cheers Luke good luck
Awesome video with just reasonable truth. Let The haters hate, it only makes me enjoy my 2007 range rover more every day. Greetings from Romania
best looking 3k car about that! facelift does it a treat for sure. great money pit but worth keeping with the spec i think. nother great video!
Thanks very much!! 😎👍🏻
Really enjoyed this thank you!! Enjoy your Range Rover. Looks like a bargain. 👍
Thanks John!
Nice car
You got the late spec factory option exterior pack bumpers front and rear
I bought a 57 plate l322 for £4500 thanks to Alex and Matt wood. It’s the best car I’ve ever owned it’s terrible on fuel but it drives lovely with 140k and FSH my only problems have been callipers seizing ! I would never go without one now
They’re strange things and really get under your skin. Which engine is it?
What could possibly go wrong? Everything 😂
This is what I like . The right mindset to owning a lux old motor . Even if you have to throw loadsa cash at it in the coming months/ years that's a lot of car you bought for 3K Best of luck
when you throw money into these cars, you are actually doing reactive maintenance, which will eventually reach preventative maintenance, at which point you will get a super reliable and still amazing car....i love this car... even the shabby leather can be redone if you want to go that far, or keep it like this and not feel so worried about jumping in with your barbour jacket on....
As long as you remember there’s no such thing as cheap Range Rover, you’ll be fine. 😊
As a Aussie who has owned a Series 2 Discovery V8 I loved it but my wallet hated it :( Over here in Ozland it's so bloody expensive to repair a Discovery or a Range Rover ,would it be much cheaper to repair one in the UK as I will be soon moving to France and I hope to pick up a 4000+ pounds used Range Rover in the UK but the repair costs worry me .
When multimillionaire petrolheads (Harry and Jeremy) still drive them you have to sit up and take notice.
Once you have spent £75k on it to keep it running............ it will be perfect ! looks great 😉 enjoy.
Why do they keep needing money thrown into them.
@Cars and Custard try putting Redex in the tank I had a Dizzy used Redex in that
Great looking £3k car. Good luck 👍👍
Thanks, I need it 😂👍
You got a bargain there.... But the upkeep maybe pricey anyway good luck very nice car. Remember the road tax is going to cost £570 and a V8 supercharged will drink like a fish.
Road tax is £630 currently I believe! It’s actually been better on fuel than I thought. I don’t think people really know how to drive these economically! Thanks for watching 👍
Great video mate I like that Range Rover ❤
Thank you, it’s a lovely old thing! Hasn’t blown up yet either haha. 👍
Im conisdering getting a nice body/shell ive seen in Southern africa and then getting a second hand diesel engine from the UK where im currently based qnd doing it over roughly 2 years
Ill then use it as my weekend drive. Does anyone have an opinion on reliability, comfort, ssrvice etc
I've never had one egore but this and the P38 are my favourites
Thanks
got a 06 supercharged l322 myself epic motor more reliable than a diesel and performance is good for a brick
best of luck with yours
classic ..those truck friends looking down on ya . Im glad you love rangie as much as i do. You are funny as fuck
Great vehicles! Will make for some great UA-cam content. Harry Metcalfe, Jeremy Clarkson, Mat from High Peak Autos, and Iain Tyrrell also can't be wrong with their L322s!
Good luck!!!
I bought a 2007 vogue 3,6 today for £2500 , 😂 open mind and open wallet at the ready .
People never consider the air bags are rubber. They perish over time. Most common failure I hear on these are airbags
Mate, brilliant review, good work
Thanks ever so much 👍🏻
My 2004 Civic Type R has similar rust on the rear quarter as well. Are you planning on getting it repaired professionally or follow Chrisfix video and DIY?
I will most likely get it repaired. I don’t trust myself enough with bodywork!
Loved mine but my l405 is worlds apart from the dated l322
LOOKS NICE MY FREND.
FOR £3,000 FOR A 16 YEAR OLD VEHICLE THAT WAS £75,000 WHEN NEW.
BUT JUST WAIT TILL SOME THING GOES WRONG WITH IT . (IE) EXHAUST, CLUTCH, TYES, AS A FREND I WORKED WITH FOUND OUT . THE TRANSMISSION ON HIS £5,400 09 PLATE WITH A 150,000 MILES ON THE CLOCK.WHENT WRONG IT COST HIM THE BEST PART OF £3,000 AND ON TOP OF THAT A FURTHER £800 for 4 new tyres. AND OVER £400 FOR BREAK PADS AND LABOUR .
THINK ABOUT IT WAS IT A GOOD BUY 🤔.
Thanks! I think it comes down to expectation. I would never expect to buy a once £75,000 car for £3,000 and it not to go wrong. It will be expensive when it goes wrong, but once you’ve spent the money on major components, they’re unlikely to go wrong for some time.
I’m on my third one now, I can justify having them because I use it regularly off-road, most people are potless millionaires who think they can afford them, they are expensive to run and maintain but find a good mechanic and you’ll love them and they are only as reliable as they maintenance you place on it, keep it clean inside and out and you will be rewarded.
Are they really the best cars to off-road in though? Genuine question. Kudos to you for using it for the purpose for which it was designed though (although we all know that’s the school gate and supermarket)
@@davidransom643maybe not the best to JUST off-road, but the best all rounder. can go off-road, long family trip, daily driver, and occasionally a posh car to flex.
@@Spartansrule118 that last part is the worst thing ever written on the internet 🤣
All of that dent in the boot will pull out. See the channel 1st track Dents. Lots of tips for dent pushing and pulling
Unfortunately, that rot on the rear door shuts will just be the tip of it. Once it’s got that far, you’ll be lucky to find much left of the back end of the sills and jacking points under the plastic sill trims.
You might not have exactly bought the cheapest Range Rover if it’s practically a scrapper. They can be put right, but it’s not a cheap job if done properly.
Looks a lovely Range rover. We'll nice.
I had so many issues with my D3 I was frightened off any Range Rover I figured it would be worse so I bought a Land Cruiser Icon and now I’m a happy chappy haven’t spent a penny on any repairs or issues so far. Long may it continue and it’s future value way exceeds Land Rover
I considered a D3 but body off for certain jobs put me off and it’s not like you get the extra luxury for the considerable running costs. Land Cruiser’s are the way to go, sensibly. I really tried to go for one but hefty price tags and lacklustre interior put me off.
@@carsandcustard yeah the interior is crap in these Toyotas. Plus they still spend the money because of their inflated price tags. I’d rather buy a RR and have the spare money in the bank to fix if/when it needs. Think of all that leather & tech. Toyota will never give you that status. Wouldn’t have been the same to see her late majesty being driven down the mall in a Toyota. 😂
95% of range rovers are still on the road the other 5% made it home.
£75,000 car has still got the the maintenance cost of a £75,000 car…..it does not have the maintenance of a £3,000 car….you potentially have a major liability here.I would only spend on the drive train and road worthy certification, if you start spending on the bells and whistles you may well be well out of pocket.
Potentially? It’s 100% a liability haha.
Le Voitures!
Blimey High Peak Autos including the RR
I was thinking about buying a cheap one and having £6 or £7k in reserve to fix it up. How hard can it be!
Famous last words
The hard part might come when your 6 - 7k is spent and cost continue to be steep
I bought mine immaculate at 80,000 miles. Was told by the dealer expect to pay on average £1200 per year maintenance.
7 years and 35000 miles later. Total maintenance £5050. Biggest was the recon gearbox £2500 because i didn't realize Gearbox oil needs to be replaced every 10-15,000 miles. But worth every penny. I'm keeping it until one of us dies. 😄
@@bobbobbing12you still loving it? can you tell me some issues you’ve had? thinking of getting a L322 or L320. could you possibly write me a list of what went wrong if you ever get the time? i’d appreciate it very much. thank you :)
@@Spartansrule118 You need a list of preventative maintenance? other than that the biggest issue will be replacing parts that every car has to, at some time. But with a Range Rover it's a lot more expensive. Tyre's are around £200 each. suspension struts £1000. EGR valves need replacing/cleaning on some models every 80,000 mls. Major job. Turbos don't last forever. I'm hoping to average out at £10,000 in ten years doing 50,000 mls. Which is expensive maintenance costs for the amount of miles. But i'm fortunate not to be a high mileage user. I have a friend who just bought an immaculate L320 2 months later the alternator broke. £1500. How bad do you want one?
Find it very hard to believe with the trouble I have been finding a car where people are asking ridiculous prices for them for to tb be priced at £3K find very hard to believe
Very nice,truthe is you need 5k to buy a 3k 1
Everything!!.
I also have a big dent in exactly the same place ! 😂
Thats a bargain wow
11:47....was Sweep with you?
Just found you my kind of thinking cheaper and fix . Want to see more good man .
Define ironic, custard! That RR you compared the price to ... was the one I bought a week ago (the actual one in your vid) 😎 I actually bought that TDV8 ... with about 4K of servicing on top plus a new tow bar fitted ... all new fluids throughout - It's only 56K miles - not sure what your one is ... but looking at the bolsters ... probably a wee bit more 😉 (I can let you know the final price if you're interested ). It's funny because the 4.2 v8 was what first made me fall in love with that engine ... which is why I bought ... a JaguaR S type R with 70,0000 miles ... and then put another 100,000 miles on her with nothing but regular upkeep ... until 2 weeks ago. Her sills were quoted at 3K for replacement and I'd just put a new radiator in a month before. It was finally the sensible choice to let the Jag go even though I'd sworn to get her to 200,000 miles ☹ Regardless - the point is, we both clearly have the same engine love and man maths going on ... I'm loving the TDV8 for the moment, but still have both ... plus an original S1 Lotus Elise which I've driven now for over 20 years now as a comparison to the behemoths. Contact me if you want to do a comarison anytime 👍
Congratulations on the purchase!! I’m sure you’re very pleased, as would I be if I bought any of the three I added on the video. Mine has done 174k now, as the bolster would allude to.
I might take you up on that. It would be good to do a comparison video at some point between the two.
@@carsandcustard Just drop me a line 👍
Do you mind me asking how you came by it at that price?
Facebook Marketplace. They do turn up.
@@carsandcustard Thanks. Lucky! May the good luck continue......(subbed!)
Three grand is breaking kind of money well done 👍
I love these things but sadly i know i cant afford to run one. I could buy one but i couldn't afford any subsequent big repairs or maintenance costs. I could get lucky i suppose but im not going to risk it now im retired and dont have the income. Poor me haha.....enjoy it while you can!
I think that’s a very sensible thought process. Getting lucky would certainly be nice but the chances of it are slim to none!
@@carsandcustard well I totally agree with your ideas on what real sustainability looks like. ( I think it was you, I jump about channels)
A brand new Tesla thats been built using unethical mining practices, then shipped thousands of miles is not green, in my book.
God, you’d have to be a right bellend to buy a cheap Range Rover
You said it, not me ;)
Oh I don't know, if you're mechanically minded and have time and money it'd probably make a good hobby.
@itsjoel Why? Nothing wrong with that if you are able to financially run it. This is the mistake people make, anyone can buy one, it’s the running costs that separate the few. That’s why there’s a lot of sh@t out there, it’s because a lot of people skimp on the services & running costs of them trying to look like a wealthy gan**@sta or dealer exactly what he says on his video.
I bought a cheap Range Rover with my eyes wide open.
I kept a £2k disaster fund in the bank for the whole three years I owned it…and never spent a penny of it.
Only costs were servicing and I did put £600 worth of quality rubber on it (Continental cross climates) but that’s just normal motoring costs.
One of the best cars I’ve ever had.
Only changed it for a newer one, although I have upped the disaster fund to £4k now…just in case!
They’re not all money pits, you can get lucky!
I'd do all the jobs on it and mint it, the driving experience and prestige
of a range rover is the best.
Tint the windows for God's sake 😅
Everything
Just have R O V E R spread across
I love it
The most comfiest car you'll drive. Look after them and you have no problems. Simple.
Mo problems😂 yeah right
@@WayToManyAssassins Not had one problem with mine. Maintenance is key.
They are very comfortable. Not sure about no problems haha! However, proactive maintenance will definitely reduce the issues I encounter, or so I hope.
@peakysnowster All cars eventually have problems even if you maintain them well
Throw in at least another £5k and it should be 'minimally reliable' / OK 😊
Really loved mine until the gearbox failed, common fault with them, engine faultless
Which engine was it Graham?
11 mpg?
18 at worst!
What if i owened one i drive car and home would short journeys be gd ?
That’s a £5k rangie anyday, well perhaps last year, now it’s £2k or less..
£1000 now I own it.
Nice car but impossible to drive at low cost. Maintenance will always be expensive and it gets worse the older they get. Got myself a 2008 Chrysler town & country half a year ago. Same story. So far go over 5000 euro maintenance in it and not done yet. It might even out a bit over time but the next thing will break down one day. Only go for these old big vehicles when you can really really afford it. Success with the Range Rover anyhow and i will follow the developments!
👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼🚘
Talk a glass eye to sleep you! 😂🫤
It sounds like half the reason you bought it is status.
You can get comfort, power and reliability from other mark's.
TDV8 and TDV6 engines are absolute waste of money, just a matter of time when they need to be replaced or remanufactured.
I don’t think they’re a waste of money, but I do think they’re quite overrated. The TDV8 definitely has it’s place for more agricultural use. The TDV6/TD6 aren’t something I’d want when V8’s are available.
Hope your leather wallet is as soft because it is going to be used a lot TRUST ME !!!!!!!!!!!!!!
If you treat it like a £75k car, you'll be fine.
(Avoid on-mic heavy hissy breath intakes)
Audio is not my strong spot unfortunately. I’ve got ram air.
That's an insane purchase unless you plan on flipping it immediately!
That looks like it's had its front end replaced with a newer one.
I did mention in the video that it’s been face-lifted.
Yes but that kit you've got is an extra ontop of the autobiography kit. Not all autobiography have it, it's an extra on the autobiography not standard. If you look you will see that kit is extremely rare. Absolutely worth it. I've just bought a 60 plate 4.4 tdv8 autobiography with lots of extras beyond autobiography standard spec which also includes this kit so your very lucky to have it.
£3000 shed
money pits dont bother buying one
I wish people would stop calling a thus type of vehicle a car , it is not a car
What is it?
Those wheels are way too small
I’d rather not murder the ride quality.
O
Where are you ppl getting these Rovers for so fuckin cheap- when I look them up on Craigslist they are still going for WAY OVER 6/7/8k in dollars which is way more than 3k pounds. UA-cam BS
There only nice when brand new.
Range Rovers are simply money pits!!
173k on the clock. Run and keep running. Might only be 3k but there's a reason for that.
Chelsea Wagon. I'll stick to my ex MOD defender. At least mine has gone off-road.
How many one life live it stickers do you have on it?
How broke do you have to be to steal that bit of trim. I bet they sold it for £30 at best.
Unless you actually own a farm then its one of the most impractical cars you can buy
I might have to buy a farm
Quote of the video has to be… Don’t drive like a dick😂
why you would think you purchased a 75K car for 3K is just ridiculous, u purchased a 3k car for 3k there you have it.
I have a breast fettish for big natural breasts
Sorry to pee on your chips, But, to put it correctly, you didnt buy a £75K range rover, thats when it was new in 2007, you bought a £3k range rover, second hand in 2023, and should expect problems, what could possibly go wrong ??
Thats a twist on buying a £12k house in 1957 but its worth £999k in 2023.
Thanks, chips are sodden.
Why throw money at this its in poor condition, personally I wouldn't of even bothered
