We paid less than £1000 for this TDV8 - is it worth saving?

- I came across this top spec TDV8 Range Rover Vogue SE at auction, advertised as a non ruunner with no power to the starter motor. I couldn't help myself and with a bid way under £1000 I was amazed when I won the auction. If this L322 could be saved for under £500 it was going to make one hell of a daily driver. The spec is huge - and is probably all broken - at a cost of £70k new. Can I fix it? What do you think.....?
SPOILER ALERT!!!

That is unbelievable! I know it has a lot of miles on the clock but this is the price I paid for just a pair of headlamps! And it will look better with the sun shining. I get 35 MPG from mine down here in the South of France, no doubt your will be a bit more thirsty where you are, but once you have driven an L322 you will find everything else a rough ride. Stay safe! Chris B.
More of this infectious enthusiasm please. Love it
Crikey , I bet the previous owner is crying now , watching you fix his pride n joy for 30 quid and 5 minutes work , I'm subscribed coz I love these old motors
The terminal was melted from pulling a current for a long period which also blew the fuse, probably from reverse polarity using jump leads, it maybe also blew the fuses for anything that was turned on at the time hence the radio and ac not working but the heated seats and wheel are OK.
Good result! Yes it’s had front mud flaps and or steps removed leaving the holes! The TDV8 should be fitted with an AGM battery not a standard battery.
holes are where mud flaps were removed - these were integral to the side steps which I imagine were removed as well.
Amazing, very lucky. Worth saving
In a BMW X5 E53 which shares a lot of the same components as a L322 you have to pull a few fuses and put them back after the battery has been completely drained or you get some things not working. I believe it was fuse 43 under the dash.
Great video can't wait for to see the next weeks video good luck.
Cracking result…..just a few glitches to sort……it’s a keeper😂😎
Id imagine someone connected a jump pack the wrong way round, you got an absolute steal
Good timing for the new project. L332 are crazy low price now, going to be lots of interest in these vids. Electrics seem to be the biggest problem. Only had mine a couple of months and highly rate it, not as good as my 300tdi but a little comfier!!!
Jammy sod haha.. Nice buy!
It looks absolutely gorgeous 😍 not sure I’m ready to swap my D2 yet though.
Well done! Another car getting another chance
Thank you for great vid! I'm looking to get either a L322 or L405!!
Unless it’s a heart over head thing, don’t waste your time or money on an L405, tempting car though I know it is. The L322 is the easier car to live with, functional design and potential to fix things yourself considered.
My neighbour has an L405 having “upgraded” from an L322. As he says, yes it has a panoramic roof option that the L322 doesn’t have, yes there are some newer toys and electronic wizardry that the L322 doesn’t have. But as he also says, non of it really improves the car and some of it actually makes it harder to live with whether it be accessibility, usability or reliability.
Add in the recent theft/insurance scandal making keyless entry Range Rovers almost impossible to insure, L405’s registered in major UK cities in particular, it might not be viable to own anyway!
He now looks at my immaculate low mileage Autobiography L322 (my insurance doubled this year) and openly confesses he made a mistake moving on to an L405, (his insurance cost quadrupled this year!) nice though they still are.
What a great result, thrilled for you, look forward to seeing the next video.
I've wanted to get one of these for a while now, absolutely no use for it but wow this isn't helping! I guess this is a 3.6 with the 6-speed, I would really want the 4.4 with the 8-speed. Seems like a great deal so far though, looking forward to the next videos. I'll just have to keep reminding myself that I don't need it...
Amazing. I wish my L322 only had those issues
Definitely got me following
Lucky bugger 😂 hopefully that was the main issue . I definitely prefer the square look of this era rangey to the new style
I would say someone has put a battery in backwards on that hopefully some more cooked fuses 🤞
Same age as my “project”. Mines on 190,000. Videos coming soon 🙈🙈🙈🙈 I think I prefer yours tho!
Awesome, love the L322! Just seen it flew through its MOT as well; fancy selling it to me? Haha
We'll see when it's finished!
Nice video. Can I ask what diagnostic tool you use ?
I've been using the Otofix D1 Lite. I'm going to try the icarsoft too. Links in the description.
Lucky
Wow, that battery terminal! 😵💫
Is it possible to shoehorn that motor into a Defender, I wonder. I’ve seen people do it with the TDV6, but never the 8.
That would be fun but don't think there's enough room!
Where did the snow go?
Great result. But I'd love to know how much your insurance premium is! ;-)
Well I'm 52 with 6 years NCB. My postcode in Liverpool isn't the best so I'm paying £1400. Which is ridiculous but I'm ok with it for now as it was a cheap buy.
Dump it now that it runs unless you have very deep pockets and a lot of love for LR products
I do....
Very interested in this iv a 09 sport with this engine very interested in upgrades and how to make this engine more reliable
They're pretty good in fairness
@@StuStafford83 have u got a 3.6
@@noelcahill6707 I sure have. Bought a few years ago as a non runner, been my workhorse for a while now.
Question guys the 3.6 engine if the egrs are blanked will that make the car not smoke alot from the back my 09 sport with the 3.6 really does not smoke at all a very little bit at the start when its cold gone in a few seconds
Seems smoke free at the moment.
@@LRLiveUK very interesting u should use this as a upgrade series for that engine and jeep
What's the OBD reader you are using in the video please
This is an OTOFIX lite, which is great. But LR Parts are going to be offering the icarsoft for just £125 plus VAT later this week. Definaltely worth buying.
@@LRLiveUK Awesome
So what exactly does it fix. Electric stuff and engine? Does it work with air suspension stuff
@@tindo9833 yes, full service kit. Airbags, suspension, module reset
I wouldn't bother buying a lottery ticket any time soon, you must have used up all your good luck with that!
Enjoyed the video very good, except big F off, lol
Sorry about that
jelouse people knock these cars but they are fantastic cars
Correct. Absolutely brilliant
SCRAP IT ❤❤❤
Can someone please help me by answering the two questions
Thing is i want to do a P38 as a project. I live in the UK but the car being sold is in Zimbabwe. It doesnt have a gearbox qnd needs seats restored
1. Does a TDv8 engine fit in a P38
2. Can i fit the l322 console in the P38. I know I'll lose most function of the l322 console but it would make the car more modern inside. Its purely aesthetic
Thanks in advance
Or even a TDV6 will that fit in a p38
I think you'd struggle with either of these in a P38 mainly because of all the control modules needed to keep them running. What about a cummins engine?
@@LRLiveUK What type Cummins engine specifically sir
Cheers
How? I am looking for one & that would be 8k.
Check the next RR video in the series.
Same age as mine, pretty well same spec. What you paid is making me sick, but hey! Mine's not for sale so the value is meaningless.
I suspect some clown has put a battery on the wrong way around or tried jump starter on wrong way to blow that fuse.
thats the car in fortnite i need this now ⚫️
Oh no. I do not have space on my drive for one of these. No. I don’t. I definitely don’t. Oh no. Please fake a video of it exploding in an expensive manner, I need your help here 😬
Mate, did you just demonetize this episode? 😅
you got gloves with the little strings on ;)
Score
Jammy 😂
Have you told it that its got a new battery, l think you have to.
I might look into that!
Just remember it might be a 1k car but parts and servicing havent depreciated that far. If it develops a big fault its scrap.
That's true. But so much is available aftermarket now it could just be viable to run and service. Plus there are thousands of second hand parts out there now too.
@@LRLiveUK Or just buy another one cheap!
They're really not bad to keep on the road
These are such a bargain, but the £700 road tax makes it a non-starter.
No, that was a fuse.
You should see the road tax in ireland for it ha il take 700 any day
Most EU countries it's thousands per year, not hundreds.
You jammy git, a fuse and you have a running rig...now makes you wonder what caused a 400amp fuse to pop !
Odd, that and that terminal. Someone doing something daft or may be an intermittent fault on the starter, I did sort of suspect this is symptoms and not cause, but will be interesting to find out.
@@davidedwards4125 The terminal did look like it had suffered some form of attack, shorted battery put in the wrong way round ? - i've not seen a starter draw 400amps. He could have other fried fuses etc in the car esp with the main one having been poped (unless it had gone bad with age but i carn't say i have ever had that happen to me, doesn't mean it carn't)
Someone tried to jump it but put the cables on the wrong way round.
SCRAP IT . JUST A MONEY PIT
Jammy sod
Where has the German accent gone?
Ha ha. Omg!
😂😂😂
Diddnt involve a lathe.
Good video until you felt the need to start swearing.
Sorry!
Standard procedure when working on Rovers 😂
insurance cost more :(
You're not wrong!
They were awful new and time hasnt been kind to them.
Probably one of the most unreliable brands money can buy.
They're really not that bad. Certainly no worse than anything else
Please mind your language!!!! Real men don’t use the F word!!!! Thank you!!!!! Regards Ian 👨🎤🇳🇿👍👌🙏
Sorry Ian, I was just too excited. I'm be more careful in the future.
Pointless it will be stolen for parts or the insurers won't insure it.
I did manage to get it insured, but it was expensive compared to the D3. Can't see parts being nicked when you can pick up scappers so cheap now.
No one steals these for parts, they're being broken left right and centre so parts are cheap as shit for them. Cheaper to insure than my transit- £286 a year for 20k miles business use.
Another scam video, give me strength
Full details of the purchase in the next video. How much I paid and how much I've spent. This is no scam!
Was it really necessary to swear in this video. I personally dont care, but this was playing with my two toddlers in the room.
I love Ozzyman, swears all the time, so I know not to play his stuff when the kids are around. But this is a video about fixing a car. Its out of character for the video and unessesary.
Sorry about that. I was was too excited and lost track. Should have bleeped it but selected the not suitable for kids box this time. I shall refrain in the future.
You should do the right thing by the public and send it to the scrap yard. If you sell it the next owner will probably will not think twice about driving it in built up areas. Vehicles such as this are simply killing us all due to the high emissions
What u watching for? One life live it.
Do you post this on all the BMW/Audi/Ford etc videos as well?? Lots and lots of saloon and estate cars out there that pollute far more than these things
Get a grip. Replacing old vehicles with plenty of life left in them with new is far worse for the planet.
