  • In this video I am going to describe the best treatment for Body Dysmorphic Disorder (BDD)?
Body Dysmorphic Disorder (BDD) is an anxiety disorder that affect 1 in 50 people. If you would like to know more about Body Dysmorphic Disorder (BDD) check out my video:
    • What is Body Dysmorphi...
There are two treatments that have been proven to be effective for BDD, medication and talking therapy. In this video I will explain a little about each of these and then explain what you can expect to be offered if you go for help.
    1. Medication: the biological origins of BDD are unclear, with some experts suggesting a genetic cause, some a chemical cause and others, no biological origin at all. This has made developing a medication that is effective for everyone tricky, so if you are offered medication for BDD the prescribing process is likely to involve some trial and error. The medication found to be most helpful for BDD is an antidepressant called Fluoxetine or Prozac.
    2. Talking therapy: the psychological origins of BDD are clearer, making the development of treatment easier. Currently the most effective talking therapy for BDD is Cognitive Behavioural Therapy.

Totally agree. I've had it since I was around 12 and im now 31. It haunts me every single day. Yesterday I spent roughly 6 hours of my day total mirror checking and crying-while my face transformed and morphed into weird things

@Klaryxelyn thank you for sharing this information about yourself so openly on the internet. Thanks to you I no longer feel alone because I also have bdd, ocd, and chronic anxiety. It can be so challenging living with these mental health issues and especially having all three. I wish you nothing but the best and thank you again.❤

it was horrible when i was younger i'll never ever ever EVER (angry face) forget it, i had low self esteem, insecuritities anxieties, couldnt look at people for long, cause i knew i was ugly, and had ocd, always looking and gazing in mirrors, inside the persons head with ocd or bdd is really quite distressing, yull never ever be able to see inside my head its a sad fact i resort to constant cosmetic treatments but i'm never happy, cause everytime i look in the mirror, i can't see what i'm hoping to see just want to look the way i do, i hated my skin., i hated having low self esteem, i still constantly keep mirror checking, and it causes me distress even after all these facials, i'm too hard on myself, i know, but i can't help it

Understandably you have so many unanswered questioned and I am sorry that I can't provide you with everything you need here. As well as helping you to tackle your symptoms and low self-esteem a therapist would be able to work some of this stuff out with you. If you need some help finding someone you can contact The British Association for Behavioural and Cognitive Psychotherapies. Good luck, I really do hope you find what you need. Warmest wishes

@@jcenlightened1248 meditation doesn’t solve the root of the problem
You have to ask for help from psychiatrist to diagnosis your condition and he probably suggest cbt and medications and maybe grouping therapy it also helps . You can also take online advice from specialists

@@ahmadalihasan thanks bro I've been doing a lot better recently. Finally got a job where I'm talking to people everyday, meditation helps me get out of my head. Also been doing many other things like working out, cold showers, semen retention. Still have it a bit but I'm much better than where I was.

Hello. My 12 year old daughter has all severe symptoms. It’s so bad. Her pediatrician Rx for her but my question is this: how do I handle this as a parent!? As a mom?

    • @plant9940
      @plant9940 3 роки тому +12

Although I am not a parent, I am a teen girl who struggles with many similarities of BDD. Some things that I find that others do to help is reassurance, being reassured that said person is not disfigured or ugly, this can be confused with telling said person they aren’t what they see though, an example would be:
BDD Sufferer: “I think I just look so ugly, I can’t stand looking at myself, I avoid the mirror and I’m so stressed all the time about how I look.”
Unhelpful response: No! You are so pretty, you do not look ugly at all, you are so beautiful to me and I love you! Anyone who doesn’t see that is crazy!”
Better Response: “I understand, I know that it’s hard, I understand that this is something you are seriously struggling with and it hurts you. I will listen to you anytime you need to talk about this, when I look at you I see someone who is attractive and gorgeous. Now I know it is hard for you to see this but truly, no matter what your eyes might show you, you are not as unlovable as you think you look.
For me personally, this might not go for everyone, but overloading compliments is unhelpful as well. An overload of compliments can make the person suffering start to that that everyone is lying or just not seeing how ugly they see themselves. I hope this helps! :)

Delete her social media , she will act badly at first but will be better later. Manipulated images cause bad body image.

is there such a test that could be done, for example wiring the person up to an mri machine with electrodes then let the bdd sufferer look in the mirror, and let the distress come to them, so they can see if there is abnormal activity in the visual cortex? i'm sure i can have a brain scan to prove this theory
