AS a women who had a child at 41, ive become very much aware of my age/ my face/aging. I look for evidence for my thoughts being true in random things people will say to me.. For example, chatting to a lady at a toddler group , normal conversation she said Is this your little one. But she hesitated before asking and it triggered me thinking 'she wasnt sure she was mine because maybe she thought I look too old be have a 2.5 year old.. this spiraled me into lots more thoughts and bad behaviors like asking my partner if i look old, or buying anti aging things. Truth be told I am old enough to have a toddler granddaughter I have a fear one day someone will say is this your granddaughter.. and all i see when i look into my mirror is an aged face, miserable face. Im getting down about this. Damn, today is a bad day

The compulsion is so natural, a habit that just builds over so badly that here comes the impulse and there you go..ironic to good habits thanks to our fears these habits get engrained too quickly and in a fashion that it almost feels unbeatable to win over this thing, no amount of objective explanation soothes the sufferer. In my personal experience, it goes like "Yeah I know I have broad shoulders but what's the harm in checking one more time.." and a step towards healing is in realizing that this one more time kills you each time and you must stop. ERP has helped me abundantly. Thank you for the video! ❤

Really enjoyed this video. I've had BDD for over 20 years and tried the cbt route several times with no joy. About a year ago I got bad bout of ocd around intrusive thoughts right out of the blue. Really blindsided me as had never experienced this. Took me a while but after listening to you and other experts I started to understand the condition a lot more and learned to manage it much better. Having experienced both the similarities between bdd and ocd are remarkable and you're 100% correct, bdd is just a form of ocd and as such the only way to treat it effectively is via the erp methodology. The more I watch your videos the more impressed I am with your insight on ocd. Videos really help us sufferers. Looking forward to getting your book. Keep it up Matt!!

Great topic and very well explained. I feel like it's more and more common among the young generations and closely tied to social medias and misleading ideas of beauty standards.
