It is pretty wild that for a while in recent-ish times Sabrina was more well known than Archie. As a kid I would tell people she's actually a comic book character from Archie comics and people wouldn't believe me!
@@GabiDAmico It does make sense though as she wasn't as involved with the main Archie group much anyways. If I remember correctly from an interview, Kieran Shipka didn't know that she was allergic to cats until they had to film. In scenes where they had her with an actual cat they had given her anti-allergen medication that made her really groggy. I wonder if that had affected the number of appearances Salem had in the show?
I'm dissappointed to hear about how CAOS went because I really enjoyed the comic, and on the surface, the show seems like exactly the kind of thing I would like. This tends to happen with a lot of spooky/supernatural media I really want to enjoy.
OMG I remember growing up watching Y2K animated series and only now do I see that it's that Sabrina and not just same name. It just felt like a total coincidence
i always watched this show when I lived with my aunt, who let us stay with her and my uncle while my mom lost her job. I always resonated with the two aunts raising me because of it and loved the show, as well as just the fantasy aspect of it. As much as I would love for them to be seen as queer, its also just nice to see female family members
On the TV show, they went out of their way to make it *no homo*- which they also did for a lot of shows in the 80’s and 90’s. Cagnie and Lacey was a cop show they had to make sure the women were shown to date, so no one would assume they were “that kind of partners.” And the same with Kate and Alley- two single moms sharing a home who also constantly were shown to date men.
Remember when is season 1 of CAOS they spent episodes trying to figure out how to astro proyect cause you can't teletransport with magic but they started teletransporting around with no issue by season 3? Yeah, I also remember.
I’m very impressed this was only your second video, you sound like you’ve been doing it for a while! The fact there was never an Archie-verse crossover (aside from Josie) is a crime. I've grown tired of superhero and celebrity crossovers. The Courage one was probably my favorite ( even if I'm still pissed they didn't consult John Dilworth, the creator)
For my sister, learning there was a show with her name on it instantly had her hooked onto it. She pretty much watched and read everything they had to offer. Even grown up, she still has a love for it. But yah, it is a series that has gone all over the place and very much a deserved cashcow.
I am so happy to have come across your channel! I followed immediately. This was an amazing video!! I love Sabrina and I grew up reading Archie comics, my mother would always pick up a book at the grocery store for me.
As a kid, I LOVED both animated sabrina the teenage witch series (the theme song is a bop and I’ll die on that hill) and the Hub network Sabrina! It played in between episodes of My little pony so I remember it pretty fondly. The art style was really unique. My local library had a copy of the made for tv movie for the earlier animated series and I think I rewatched it 100x. The villian Cassandra and Sabrina’s half-witch best friend were really interesting characters and I wish we got to see more of them :o(
Love this video, love your comedy and input and clear love for this character I also agree the netflix show fails at truly capturing everthing we came to love about Sabrina or magical and became a series on how to "shock" the audinces and all that with it's darkness and it's unfortunate! Also I'm surprised you didn't include the comics by Kelly Thompson!! I love those!
I think my favorite incarnation of Sabrina is actually from the most recent comic line. She just feels like a perfect translation of Sabrina in the modern day and it’s a shame more people don’t know about it.

Loved the Filmation those Saturday morning cartoon series as a kid. And the different Archie comics were a blast; so many titles, onky the true die hard fans got them all or else we'd never have had money for DC, Marvel or Harvey. I remember when during late at night Sabrina: Secrets of a Witch would be on Cartoon Network during late nights, it was honestly a pretty decent show, I was pretty much a toddler at the time so it is kind of nostalgic to me. Our school library also had most of the Archie comics and the ones where Sabrina was included and I'd say her character impacted my current fashion choices a lot. Cool stuff :>>

I definitely remember watching the 2013 Sabrina series, but I never really got into the Netflix one though. I am enjoying going back and watching Sabrina Secrets of A Teenage Witch on UA-cam. I’m also starting to like the original sitcom as well.
I loved Sabrina as a kid, especially the sitcom. In the early 2000s, they released magazines called Sabrina’s Secrets, which sometimes came with collectable accessories. My mum would get them for me and it was something I cherished so much!

Okay. Subbed for saying Roberto's name right! Seriously, this was fun and engaging. The only thing possibly left out is that the MJH series was written primarily by writers from Mystery Science Theater 3000 and Nick Bakay.
It was a good retrospective on Sabrina history, the sitcom will always have a special part in my nostalgia memory, didn't watched entirely chilling adventure but i loved the crossover part with the sitcom, ross lynch/harvey is most famous for his role in austin and ally, the sabrina multiverse is real, funny that nick scratch is also the name of marvel witch agatha harkness son, i wish the next iteration of sabrina will once again be a live like comedy with laughter and all.
Growing up i read Archie comics due to my grandparents saving my moms childhood comics. I adore them as a whole, and have loved how the comic has evolved over time. Archie The Married Life series is definitely particularly bizarre though lol
I remember getting mocked a little by my family for enjoying the 90s live action sitcom and cartoon as a kid due to being a boy. I had no idea Sabrina was made by Archie until Afterlife with Archie came out years later. 😅
The fact that I have a copy of Sabrina goes to Rome (I don't know where it came from, for some reason it's just been in an old hard drive we have since I was a kid) makes me feel special now that I'm finding out it's hard to find😅 It's also my intro to the world of Sabrina and shockingly I didn't even realize that there's so many characters just interchanging😂

I actually love the last five episodes of the sitcom's final season. I think they are some of the best the series put out, and definitely the strongest of the last three seasons.
For the longest time as a young kid I thought the last season of Sabrina was a separate show and I thought Roxy and Morgan were Hilda and Zelda, and the show was based on the cartoon where Hilda and Zelda were like younger and “cool”

Great video. I used to watch Sabrina the teenage sitcom (lol) when I was a kid. It was really popular here in Argentina. Salem is one of the reasons I love cats so much, lmao.
It made me so sad when I watched CAOS and he wasn't a witty and sarcastic talking cat.
@@gabe_ed my mom grew up in Brasil and the same thing with Archie Comics :) guess Archie is huge in South America
Didn't realise it was so unpopular to love the CAOS adaptation....😂 iv Watched it like 3 separate times and is one of my favourite shows. I grew up watching the re running of the sitcoms sabrina and the Ashley Tisdail one. But love CAOS ❤️
@@melanienina6217 I love this for you! Like what you like!
Yesss I am always here for Sabrina the Teenage Witch video essays!
It is pretty wild that for a while in recent-ish times Sabrina was more well known than Archie. As a kid I would tell people she's actually a comic book character from Archie comics and people wouldn't believe me!
Everyone on Tik Tok is saying the same! I guess she's been an incognito Archie character for so long
@@GabiDAmico It does make sense though as she wasn't as involved with the main Archie group much anyways. It's like Bingo Wilkin, lil Jinx, Katy Keen, or Josie & the Pussycats (to name a few that are my faves) that were I guess side stories? Still all linked in the same universe mostly, but their own stories besides Archie's gang that either rarely interacted with them or never did.
hi! omg, i just loved this video essay and how you explained it so much! I never imagined how many adaptations and versions of Sabrina were out there ! As much as I love CAOS , yes, it had a major problem in the writing aspects ,specially in how Sabrina messes up and doesn't get any consequences for her actions whatsoever, but as a fan of witchcraft and pagan traditions this is my comfort show to watch in the spooky season , even thought I too agree that that the system of the church of night was my less favourite part.
I love finding new UA-cam channels to follow. Another gem to my collection 💎

@@Mary.420 you're too sweet! Thank you!
16:30 say what you want girl but that theme song slaps hard.
So they did a behind the scenes thing for the Netflix show and it was explained that part of the reason Salem wasn't in it So much was because the lead actress who played Sabrina was deathly allergic to cats
They could have used puppets/cgi though....preferrably puppets...and having Nick Bakay return...with a side of tuna salad sand- *witch*
Awww😢 Salem is in it but he just takes the form of a cat
I didn’t read the comics the show was based on so I can’t really compare much but ngl I thought that her cousin Ambrose was supposed to fill the role of Salem 😂 cuz I remember Salem is a talking cat cuz he didn’t always used to be a cat
@@Superlad9494that’s what they did with the void episodes! I forget which horror he represented but they had an animatronic that was just like the original live action tv Salem represent one of the cosmic horrors
Literally any other actress would have been a better choice than Kiernan Shipka.
@@idknemore525Um Kiernan looks just like Sabrina and definitely had the bubbly personality for it. I didn’t see a thing wrong with her acting. It was just the script wasn’t good as the series progressed. This is coming from someone who had the original cartoon series and the animated ones. She was like a combination of both.
I remembered watching “Sabrina the animated series” back when I really little,I forgot most of it but I remember bits of like one episode I think the plot was about Sabrina was like going to prom and she needed a date but the mean girl Gem was also asking out Sabrina’s love interest Harvey (by the way I totally forgot about the names I think when I was little I didn’t know the characters names lol so I had to look it up),it’s really interesting to hear about Sabrina the teenaged witch history,as I mostly forgot about this show and my most knowledge about Sabrina as a whole was her animated show and her being a part of the ‘Archie’ comics, thanks for proving this lil history about Sabrina it’s really good :).
@@Sophia-if7zk thank you so much! I find the animated series really charming, I do watch it from time to time :)
@ You’re welcome,up and until i watched this video I completely forgot about it lol, this video really helped informed me about Sabrina the teenaged witch I be excited to watch your other content as they are funny, informative and fun :).
I loved this video! I loved the 90s show growing up and the Netflix adaptation as well, despite its underwhelming ending. I was shocked when I found out a while back that Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa actually wrote the CAOS as a comic book first, and it was so cool to hear you explain all the other iterations of her story. Also I could not stop laughing at the hard R when you say Roberto Aguirre-SaRcasa 😂

Sabrina was my favorite show as a kid. I was a big fan of Clarissa Explains It All so I followed Melissa Joan Hart to Sabrina. I'm glad I'm not the only one mad when Libby was written out. Although I did like Martin Mull's Mr. Kraft as antagonist too.
@@stuffingtonjfluffypantsiii Martin Mull slays every season he's in, honestly I would have accepted him as a chancellor or something in the college years. But yeah justice for my girl Libby

If I remember correctly from an interview, Kieran Shipka didn't know that she was allergic to cats until they had to film. In scenes where they had her with an actual cat they had given her anti-allergen medication that made her really groggy. I wonder if that had affected the number of appearances Salem had in the show?
Great video, Gabi. The exciting beginnings of a promising channel. Will be watching your rise!
Please keep posting! I thoroughly enjoyed this video
@@Beanaleann I will! Thank you for the kind comment :)
How dare you. The 2nd animated series theme song is a bop. How dare you
I'm dissappointed to hear about how CAOS went because I really enjoyed the comic, and on the surface, the show seems like exactly the kind of thing I would like. This tends to happen with a lot of spooky/supernatural media I really want to enjoy.
@@moongem4489 yes! This! I love to revisit the comics but I literally couldn't finish my rewatch of CAOS...
I am SHOOK THAT YOU DONT HAVE MORE SUBS, what this is so well edited?!
@@SummerFlowers-rl8pp you're too kind! Thank you!

This video was a fun trip down memory lane; I grew up with the sitcom and your video reopened the memories I had of played the spellbound video game and I owned a few books (can’t remember which ones though!) and I never finished chilling adventures but it was fun to see how much actually relates to the past comic history. Subscribed - hope to see more of your work in the future!
Obsessed with all you do and could watch a thousand more of these on any topic thank you
Scooby and the Gang are the same way. It's depressing because both could be good if they had more consistency and weren't just a canvas to make money.
The fact there was never an Archie-verse crossover (aside from Josie) is a crime. I've grown tired of superhero and celebrity crossovers. The Courage one was probably my favorite ( even if I'm still pissed they didn't consult John Dilworth, the creator)
AGREED!!!! Really great point.
I loved this video! It's been years since I've thought of the sitcom. I definitely want to rewatch it now xD
For my sister, learning there was a show with her name on it instantly had her hooked onto it. She pretty much watched and read everything they had to offer. Even grown up, she still has a love for it.
But yah, it is a series that has gone all over the place and very much a deserved cashcow.
I recommend the current comic series! It's great!

@@joshs7188 I ran out of time and stopped my comic commentary but you are correct! The Kelly Thompson comics are delightful and I LOVE the art style
I think my favorite incarnation of Sabrina is actually from the most recent comic line. She just feels like a perfect translation of Sabrina in the modern day and it’s a shame more people don’t know about it.
YES! I'm sorry I didn't have time to cover this - the current run of comics that's not the CAOS comics are so good. Love the art, love the coloring, love this Sabrina

Loved the Filmation those Saturday morning cartoon series as a kid. And the different Archie comics were a blast; so many titles, onky the true die hard fans got them all or else we'd never have had money for DC, Marvel or Harvey. Funny to learn that two of the big series got canceled not long after I stopped collecting them. I'd just assumed they'd kept going even to this day. Good research and video.

I actually love the last five episodes of the sitcom's final season. I think they are some of the best the series put out, and definitely the strongest of the last three seasons.
