I watched the series and stupidly went to Internet Movie Data Base to read the "errbody's a critic" section. Idiots were kvetching about how Zoe Saldana did not look like a college student. Seriously? Ya'll missing the point!! Considering all the movies I've seen all my life where there this person or that person "doesn't look" like some image in a movie goer's head...I had to shrug my shoulders. None of that negativity diminished my enjoyment of seeing BLACK people portrayed on screen being yes....human. I loved what was said about the story's expansion from erotic love into agape love. The story went from a charming "boy meets girl" formulaic sort of thing to including married, divorced, gay, adoptees, soccer, food, art, kids in Watts, and Sicilian in-laws into the story. I think the only thing missing was a golden retriever, LOL! That expansive love spoke powerfully to me. The songs from Andra Bocelli and his son Matteo Bocelli...wow. At first I thought it was odd to have his song "Time to Say Goodbye" (its English title) in the movie. But gradually, it made sense, I knew that this was a story of a much-loved man who died before his time. Even in a wedding, a couple is saying goodbye to one form of themselves in order to welcome another form. I want to watch the series again, buy the book, find the soundtrack, and hope to find my own copy of the series on DVD so I can watch it repeatedly. Grazie tante!
