    Statement from Isuzu on Check Engine Light:
    “the Check Engine Light was an alert to the fact that a Diesel Particulate Diffuser (our version of a DPF) regen was not completed.
    Due to the fact that the car was sitting around in the holding yard for weeks and was frequently started and driven for a short moment around the yard just to get to other cars, we believe that the DPD would have done its job by collecting particulate matter but would not have the operating temperature to complete the regen. When you ended up taking delivery of the vehicle and drove it for an extended period of time, the vehicle would’ve completed that regen once the vehicle reached operating temp, but the Check Engine Light would’ve remained prompting the driver to visit an Isuzu UTE Service Centre for a system check.”
    So, as expected! Glad it wasn’t anything more 😊

    First off, I have to say that I love these reviews, fun, funny and honest (if a bit misguided). But I have to pick you up on a couple of things - every MU-X review bangs on about “old technology” and the 6-speed transmission being “well below par where the benchmark is a 10-speed” etc. when the simple fact is, old technology is another way of saying “tried and tested”. There’s a reason they put this engine and transmission in the new BT-50, and that’s because the “new technology” of the variable oil pump in the Ford Ranger engines and the poxy transmission they were coupled to, made both the Mazda and the Ford unreliable.
    All the Ford fans will point to the sales figures, and that’s fine, but reliability is important when you’re going off road. And before the Toyota owners start (again), I’ve just spent 6 agonising, detestable years in a Fortuner, with its intrusively noisy engine, it’s (twice replaced in mine) useless transmission, it’s DPF issues and it’s underpowered (did I mention intrusively noisy) engine. The consistent air flow meter issues that sent it into limp home mode and the hideously uncomfortable interior meant it wasn’t even a comfortable place to wait for a tow truck. Hands down the worst car I ever owned and I only kept it 6 years because I was going to lose so much on it to sell it. Horrendous, end of story. So Toyota owners who think Toyotas are still reliable are living in the past. Thats the 90’s and early 2000’s.
    The “old technology” Isuzu is streets ahead of the Fortuner for reliability. The transmission in the new Ford is also plagued with issues, so the commenter who said that Ford reliability issues were a thing of the past, sorry, you’re wrong.
    Now back to this review - issues with the size of the infotainment screen? Comparing it to the size of the Ford screen? No electric tailgate? Neither of these things matter in real life. In your driveway or in the middle of nowhere, a car that starts when you need it to start is what matters. Would I take a 6 speed transmission over and CVT ever built, or any supposedly more sophisticated 10-speed box? Absolutely. Does anyone buy a 4wd for its zero to 100 speed? I hope not, because you’re going to be sadly disappointed. A touch charger for your phone? Eh, I can plug it in, it’s certainly not a hill I’d die on.
    People are looking at the Isuzu because it’s reliable, not because it has hooks to hang your shopping on. It needs to get me back from where I’m going to, I didn’t appreciate the paddle shift on my Fortuner, I’d rather it didn’t go into limp-home mode on a dusty road. I don’t want 4 extra gears and a great quarter-mile time if it means the transmission self-combusts before I get 100,000kms out of it.
    I watched your review, I read the comments, then I went and bought an Isuzu because none of the “negatives” offered in this review were actual negatives…..oh, and mine came with a stupid electric tailgate, for those too lazy to open it themselves.

      I’m not a Toyota fan boy but there’s a reason why Toyota has good reputation when it comes to such cars otherwise I’d take a gle or an x5 off-roading. At the moment the Prado and Everest are above every other car in their class. The fortune isn’t bad tbh and is better than the Mu-X. I don’t gate the hate he has towards it

      @@cmelft2463the brand literally speaks for itself look at the sales. A Toyota would outlive all of these cars and can do anything these cars can do maybe even better. At the end of the day it really is the persons preference

    • @cmelft2463
      @cmelft2463 6 місяців тому

      @@BrianChiedo Not denying that toyota is a good brand but sales is mostly due to worldwide sales, the fact that their cheaper end (corrolla, yaris) are cheaper to own compared to other brands due to them still being pretty basic (a lot of other companies are filling their cars with all sorts of tech).
      Dont forget toyota sales in "not so good" countrys. All add up to increased sales numbers.
      My point was, if the name speaks for itself (which is does) its very odd that toyota owners are still so defensive over them
      I have multiple friends with both the latest Prado and Ford Everest - neither have had issues but its hard to deny the ford comes with a lot more luxuries that the toyota fans keep ignoring putting down to the tired old "more stuff to fail" trope.
      My final point is that toyota owners Should be expecting more from the brand as they are lagging behind the rest all based on the fact they keep their tech the same and the fanboys dont want to admit it

    • @BrianChiedo
      @BrianChiedo 6 місяців тому

      @@cmelft2463 I mean the older generation of Prado has been around for over a decade so ofc it’s going to be a little outdated but the new Prado that is yet to be produced seems to be on par with the Everest in terms of technology and luxury. I think Toyota has upped its game in the past few years. Their cars are starting to have things that most European manufacturers have. Toyotas usually didn’t have soft touch areas but most models if not all have soft touch on the door and dash and the cars come with apple car play. Again I’m not a fanboy but I’m trying to be as objective as possible.
      So yea you could say that for older Toyota models but the new ones eg. Prado now have nearly the same features as its European competitors. So the reliability argument seems fair but it can’t be used to excuse their past overuse of cheap materials.

    Still the best car in class.
    Everest’s have been plagued with issues for years and even the new ones are already having issues and the Mitsi’s are too small inside for a family.
    Little things you pointed out like the steering wheel and the incandescent blinkers are actually good things, I’m a truck driver who’s racked up quite literally a few million kilometres in my time and they are actually both great features to have. Steering wheels wear out, I’ve worn through a few, plastic is a nice thing because it will last longer. Also the incandescent blinkers are an absolute god send. I honestly can not think of a feature I get more angry at as a truck driver more than LED blinkers, purely for the fact that you can’t see them from any angle other than straight on… the amount of times I’ve had to slam on the brakes because a car has turned in front of me or at a roundabout or what not because I couldn’t see a blinker is uncountable.
    Both those things are benefits of lessons learned from a truck manufacturer making a SUV not a car brand making it.
    Looks are important but functionality even more so.
    Also as a lifelong 4WDer I can honestly say the Isuzu wins on every front, my holidays consist of loading the family and hooking up the camper trailer and heading bush, whether it be the Vic High Country, the Simpson Desert, Cape York or even a local State Forest and I can tell you the Isuzu will win hands down every time.
    In that environment I don’t want fancy constant 4WD or highly strung engines, the Isuzu’s 4jj3 engine is legendary reliability and the part time 4WD is exactly the perfect choice.
    It’s the joys of having a car that is built by one of the worlds best truck manufacturers, it’s all stress free, that engine will go for 500,000km easily because it’s capable of so much more but is so detuned for production which is also why they respond so well to a custom dyno tune.
    And by being a longer running model all the bugs are worked out, the early gearbox issues, gone, the constant dpf issues, gone (lol check engine aside but any car will have issues sitting for months), the cracking inner guards, gone, all issues that have been redesigned and fixed… No Ford Everest can say that.
    I am completely confident to head to the desert for weeks at a time in the MUX.
    An Everest or Sport or Fortuner, sorry but you miss the mark.

The Brizzy to Darwin bit was with the van always connected, so about 3000kms, we didn’t take it off and the 2021 MUX LST fuel economy according to the onboard trip computer was 13.8lt/100km, so roughly about 500km per 80lt tank. As a comparison when we do country driving without he van, the fuel economy is about 7.2 to 7.6lt/100km, so the van almost doubled our fuel usage.

The thing that really bugs me is all the hype of how reliable it is when there is ample evidence to the contrary. also that engine is not new it has some new parts and the DPF issue is an engine issue as the engine causes it. I drove the Fortuna but I've been stung with reliability issues with my Mitsy, so I'm researching & ultra sensitive to potential reliability issues. I don't like the new Toyota 2.8L 1-GD FTV engine that's in there. They've tried to lighten the engine components so it runs faster & pumps out more power but is more 'efficient'. You can see a video of the old KD engine vs the new GD engine on YT...The camrods are half the size/thinner (600g lighter) & are prone to bending. They viscous fan hub loses silicone oil & causes overheating. Need to catch it in time. They're trying to meet emissions & avoid the DPF issues of the older KD engine by sticking a 5th injector in there to dump fuel to promote burn off.

    i have current mux lst, Even though most reports comment on its good ride quality i find it is ruff on small sharp bumps all most as if it has bad body mounts or maybe just shock absorber probelm. it is allmost soft ride on larger bumps and undulations but little bumps it is annoying and gives me a sore neck. has anybody else noticed this ? cheers to you guys

I went to a 4wd adventure park with a new top of the line Ranger and they were having trouble with clearance and struggling a bit, where as the mux had no issues at all.

      15000km is too long between services for a modern diesel if you want to it to last. Watch a deconstruction video after failure, they get incredibly sooty inside. Manufacturers don’t want your vehicle to last.
