I was always told that the safety chains on a trailer are suppose to Chriscross. That way if the trailer came disconnected to the hitch the chain could cradle the tongue and hopefully save it.

    • @ChrisHessert
      @ChrisHessert 10 місяців тому +11

Agreed. And my understanding is that the chains should be tight enough to prevent the trailer tongue from dropping to the pavement if the trailer comes loose (off the ball). You can twist the chains to take up any slack.

This is the law in many states. If your not doing it this way your pulling a trailer wrong

@@GrumpyClaus Look at 27:26 there NOT crossed, also need to add the pin that keeps the coupler from letting go of the ball. Both are easy fixies.

That’s an awesome setup you have. Maybe a solar panel and controller so you don’t kill your battery when you’re off grid could be a good idea. Looking forward to seeing the show. We don’t have car shows that big in New Zealand so bring it on. 👍🇳🇿

Y’all’s positive attitude is what makes this Channel so interesting. Every time you face an unexpected challenge or problem you joyfully meet it with patience and discipline. You don’t gripe and complain and have a pity party. Lesson is that we all face adversity along our journeys, but it’s how we face them that really matters.

Guys, I think anyone who has ever ventured out like this surely had a good chuckle when Aaron asked " hey, want me to dig those up too?" My first wife asked if I could install her favorite toilet before we left, like 30 minutes, before we left! Lucky guys that have mechanical wives. Understanding is the key to compatibility. And a good sense of humor.

Its a wonderful little trailer, I would've put a deep cycle battery in instead of the car battery, you can draw down the deep cycle very low without damaging it. Also a 2nd battery was a great idea, just need to follow through with it. The bronco might be factory wired for brake controller, if so a factory pigtail will plug right into an aftermarket controller.

Ask your tire dealer about equipment trailer tires. They are made for more load ratings and have more plies. Sizes are typically compatible. Don't go with light truck tires. .

I absolutely love what you did with the small camper. Getting right in and finding the easy fixes to what Aaron thought were going to be major rewiring of the dome lights, And thinking ahead about if more went bad so getting a couple of spares
Then solving all the 3-way power systems for the fridge, stove, water heater, and bathroom looked so much easier than you thought.
When Emily complained about the lack of storage to her grandfather and he said great, it turned 180 degrees and became humorous. I thought he was going to say he could build new interior cabinets for you, when instead he said grandma always packs way too much.
It was a great episode packed with camping tips and knowledge on how it should be done. Making unique checklists for each of your campers might help ensure nothing is left out.
GREAT EPISODE. And I like the longer format too.

Great Episode- The camper is a good "modern way" to travel and go to work events. Props for Aaron and his cooking skills - If I may - another you tuber that I follow has some videos out and is sponsored by EcoFlow (no I don't work for them). They have a brand of solar products as well as battery operated products- one of the things they have is a portable Refrigerator (the Glacier) that actually makes ice cubes. The Bronco- 6 cylinder dual turbo - rated for 3500 pounds towing. If you are worried about weight distribution - I suggest taking the Bronco and the camper to a truck stop and weighing it there- you will have to pay but you can get the total weight of the Bronco and the camper (I'd also have it loaded like you were going on a trip because that would give you a true weight picture). Also - gas/fuel mileage - what was your fuel consumption pulling the trailer?

On the lower storage they sell a tray that rolls out to either side so you can get to all your stuff that ends up in the middle. If it is too much weight you can build it out of wood and use Masonite to Masonite to allow it to have less friction.

We have had a 2015 F150 with the 1st gen 2.7 twin turbo and I agree that it is a very powerful motor for it's size but keep in mind that power creates heat. At just over 100k miles a $70 heat sensor in one of the heads fails and initiates the limp in mode. Limped into a dealer and when the mechanic tried to remove the sensor it broke and one thing lead to another requiring the replacement of the head and $7,000 later it is just like new! We are guessing that the camping trip to Vegas complete with dragging our 24 foot camper up and over several mountain passes resulted in producing more heat than the cooling system could safely dissipate even though the temperature gauges never indicated a problem. Give her a rest.

Awesome content. It’s cool to see y’all are friends with Derrick, Jessica and the boys. I love seeing families enjoying families and enjoying the beautiful outdoors. Love your Bronco/camper setup. These days, minimalism makes good sense. To often we go for the bigger is better routine and it becomes more costly to travel and maintain the big rig. I’m pleased to see Arron is healing well. At age 67, with lots of old man aches and pains from deterioration…pain is disabling. Hang in there and keep enjoying life. Blessings.

Very excited for you about the RPOD! Our departure time is always blow up. And my wife always brings a small potted flowering plant to make it homie. I also have that same brake control, i'm on my second since the first escaped after a large pot hole. I drilled a hole in the thin plastics on the top and secure it to the tow vehicle each trip. The frame outriggers often are too weak to hold up the walls of the trailer. Many Rpod owners add more of them. Replace the screws under the black vinyl strips with longer stainless steel screws as the originals rust out and fail.

Looking at where the trailer brake plug goes in There's a bolt 🔩 to the Left of it, Maybe a bit of plate steel something like Angle line, Cut to length and the end folded up with a hole in it so that the Bolt can go through to Brace it, The flattened ledge of the Angle line goes under the trailer brake attachment to Support it.. Probably sounds confusing but you will understand what I mean 😉😉😉

You can deal with the tongue weight by how you load the trailer with your supplies. By shifting most everything to the rear, your tongue weight will be reduced.
Most 3 way fridges draw a LOT of 12V amps, but also, most fridges will stay lit on propane while you drive down the highway. Give it a try.

Love the camper. The three things I found mor useful (for me) was a battery powered drill to put the legs down, a rear camera wired to Bluetooth on the camper and a tyre pressure monitoring kit for it.

I love the camper and the way you two are making it your home on the road. I can't wait to see what you do next with it and where you take it. Great stuff! Have fun!

Chock your trailer wheels and disconnect from vehicle. That’ll get you level from front to back. The hardest leveling is side to side.

Put a receiver hitch on the back of the camper, then you can use your motorcycle carrier with it.

transmission temp is important ,if it gets too hot ,it will destroy your clutches.a trailer that size shouldn't cause problems, but stay aware of transmission temperature

Agree about the leaks. Our son had an RPOD and the slide leaked. It spent almost a year at the factory getting repaired

I would add a sway control for peace of mind, during high winds and trucks passing.
If you fold your door rail/ handle forward, it is another level of safeguard, your camper door will not open while traveling.

Aaron, I hope you know how good you have it. Your wife is the best and so easy going. I'm sure it's not all roses but she is still a super cool gal.
