I loved that R&B groups were dabbling in the Electro sounds of the early to mid 80s that evolved out of disco. Midnight Star were the best example of that. 3 dudes out of Detroit (Kevin Saunderson, Derrick May and Juan Atkins) took that sensibility and the House sound of Chicago and created Techno.
Ruth KILLED this one. One of the most unique lead vocals of the 80s. I also like the lyrics -- equating love (or lust) with a device malfunctioning. I don't remember the intro being that long, though...they must have cut out about a minute for radio.

According to Ruth, it was bc they couldn't find anyone to sing the low note. June and Anita looked at the producer and said Ruth could sing it. When asked by the interviewer if she was the one hitting the lower notes, she confirmed it
