In June 2024, Chaka Khan appeared on NPR's Tiny Desk Concert series. At 71, she still sounds great!

***RUFUS....FEATURING....CK TRIVIA TIME!!*** ....So everlasting, like CHAKA....(4:00).....
    - ....A "Quiet Storm" CLASSIC, and the definitive Song that placed CK into her OWN 'lane'; the "Ask Rufus" LP was VERY anticipated, but this wasn't slated to be a single...It was an 'LP Track gone good', because of it's popularity, and because of CHAKA.....
    - ....Chaka showed what her voice can do on this track; she sounds like Wine, Incense & Honey; She was known for uptempo Funk numbers (like the first 2 singles, "Hollywood" & "At Midnight (My Love Will Lift You Up)" but this One was SO popular, it got released, Summer 1977, and hit #17 R&B........
    - ....It didn't matter, because it only made everyone want to buy the ALBUM......speaking of, *THAT COVER* (1:03) caused controversy, because Chaka didn't KNOW they were going to "50 Foot Woman" her on the cover!
    - ...ALL the members got 'individual' shots......as expected, the band members got mad CK was 'featured' so prominently, that it started to cause friction in the Band.....THEN they became "Rufus featuring Chaka Khan" (5:47) ....much like, "Gloria Estefan & Miami Sound Machine".....

Baby Empress is a happy baby, Empress.
    And Chaka Khan's vocal range!
She started the song with that sultry smoldering voice (she knew exactly how to make me feel).
Then she 'turned up the volume'.
Chaka Khan began to make her voice sound like a blaring trumpet.
With the control of a Myles Davis.
The first time I listened to "Everlasting Love", Chaka Khan had me in a trance.

Baby E's got a lot of baby video, she can sort through when she gets older. Maybe she can put together a Best of collection.

The group: Rufus featuring Chaka Khan. This is a very sensual and romantic song about love.

Rufus was such an awesome group. Chaka was obviously the headliner. But the group had a Chicago meets Los Angeles vibe that was very unique. Most of those guys were great session musicians🎼🔥

Chaka brought the vocals as usual. Chaka has such a beautiful and distinct voice. When you hear Chaka, you know that it’s Chaka.

The first time I heard this song was in the 1982 movie "Night Shift", a live version plays in the background in one scene. That version was recorded for Rufus' 'Stompin' At The Savoy' live album but didn't make the cut and has yet to be restored to, or added as a bonus track to, a reissue of the album. I wouldn't hear this studio recording of the song until I bought the 'Ask Rufus' album on CD in the '90s. The song wasn't a big chart success but it's a staple in Chaka's live show 'til this day. It was co-written by Rufus' then-new keyboardist Hawk Wolinski, who didn't make the album cover. Maybe he's behind Chaka.

O.K. This one was off of Ask Rufus. My favorite was their 3rd - Rufusized. The bit hit was Once You Get Started. I see they have a Midnight Special of that song, and another I'm a Woman (I'm a Backbone) This was another killer. Before her I'm Every Woman.

Not to be confused with Carl Carlton's classic of the same title from three years earlier (1974 vs. 1977). 😎
