Nicci Gilbert independently released a great solo CD in 2005, 'Grown Folks Music', that most Brownstone fans know nothing about.
They tick all the boxes when it comes down to a 90s R&B Female group 🙌🙌
Brownstone was an amazing girl group and is seriously underwater as one of the best.

This was one of their first singles. Their harmony is stellar from the giddy up. Their harmonies reminds me of Labelle. They were the first artist released on MJJ(MJ’s label). Nicki Gilbert is taking the lead on this song. She has appeared in a Tyler Perry play and the reality show R&B Divas. They have some more hits like 5 Miles To Empty and a cover of The Eagles I Can’t Tell You Why to name a few.
It was actually their third single. Their debut, “Pass the Lovin’,” was a relative flop, but they hit big with the follow up, “If You Love Me.” I’m actually surprised Empress hasn’t heard that one. It’s their biggest hit and a definitely banger!
That whole debut album slaps.

@@EmpressReacts Brownstone was the second-best R&B girl group of the 90s on pure vocals (no disrespect to SWV, TLC, Xscape, Jade, Ex-Girlfriend, etc.). I stan En Vogue over everybody, of course.
One of the best mid 90s female vocal groups. They had a line up change between their first and second albums but the vocals remained strong. Check out If You Love Me, 5 Miles to Empty, and I Can't Tell You Why (cover of Eagles song).

They also have another song you probably heard their 1994 debut single if you love me and it appeared on the same album as this song fun fact they was signed to Michael Jackson Record label mjj in 1994.

I wore this CD and track OUT back in the day! Don’t know who I was singing this to in middle school but this song had me going through it! I hope you check out more Brownstone and also check out one of their former members, Kina, who has an amazing underrated track called “Girl From the Gutter!” I know you will love it!

The one who sang the bridge had to leave the group due to health issues. The singer with the braids - Maxi - died a few years ago under circumstances I find very suspicious, but she had a smooth, alto voice.
Dang sad they had some hurdles due to illnesses
