    Your video was so helpful, I wasn't sure whether the PDMovie Air 3 Smart would attach to my SmallRig cage and work with my Canon R5 having the Dual Fisheye lenses but you showed exactly how it all works in this video. No one to my knowledge has done this with the VR Canon fisheye lenses and I didn't want to be the trailblazer who orders the device only to find out that it doesn't integrate properly with the camera, lenses and cage. But now thanks to you I have full confidence that it will work. Thank you so much for posting this highly specialized and extremely relevant video.

      So happy to hear the video was of use to you! Yes, it did take a few tries to find the optimal mounting position but it definately worked. The cage you get can make a difference, ideally you would want to mount it with the actual lidar sensor directly above the VR lens, an in between the two lenses, because of the available mounting locations on this cage I was not able to get it in that exact location but it still worked perfectly. Also, please take note that this specific cage has areas on the side that petrude forward that limited how far back the lidar unit can go, and so the gear on the lidar unit is not 100% over the entire belt on the lens but it's still more than enough to contact to control the lens. Your cage might have better clearance than mine. This is a bit of a unique challenge with the VR lens because it's focus wheel is so darn close to the camera body, if that makes sense, at least in comparison with most manual lenses our there that you would normally use this with, with those, this is not really an issue because their focus rings are further away from the camera body so you have plenty of clearance. Keep this in mind when you get your unit and try out different mounting locations until you get one that works. For my specific camera and cage this was the best mounting option I could find that worked for me. It really is a super basic and super handy little lidar unit. I would love to hear about your experience with it once you get your hands on it.

      @@vrfrir I received my PDMovie Live Air 3 Smart Auto focuser a couple of days ago. It's working very well, I have a SmallRig cage and was able to locate the gear on the lidar unit over the entire gear width of the belt. You can see how I did that in the attached UA-cam video link that I made for my YT channel: ua-cam.com/users/shorts03ETDTI7cDU This amazing device increases the versatility of my Canon Dual fisheye lens by leaps and bounds. Before I had to keep my subject at a fixed distance because it was so awkward having to refocus the lens multiple times each time my subject moved toward and away from the R5. Now the camera can be used easily in a dynamic motion environment! Thank you again for opening my eyes to the possibility integrating this Auto focuser with the Dual fisheye lens! (Pete)

    Pulled the trigger for the PDMovie Air 3 Smart. In the queue, listening to the video again, I appreciated the history lesson from Insta360 EVO, gopro and finally the Canon r5c. Good run down of where we are today. I do have the EVO and the QooCAM EGO. I have the Canon r5 - so stuck with 8K and 30fps. It a great camera for photography. Anyway - waiting for the package to arrive to be able to focus the Canon r5 with 180lens. Thank you again for posting this!

      Thank you so much, I appreciate your feedback! I hope you enjoy it as well, I've actually also been loving using it on my manual non-VR lenses. I've got this 10mm fisheye manual lens that I love to use with this lidar system, it's like having an 8K 60fps gopro system.

    Thanks so much for this video. Quick question. I know you mentioned that you have the PDL-AFX-S model, but do you think it makes sense to order the PDL-AFX-RA-SP model with the more powerful Motor Smart? I'm not really interested in the Remote Air thing so I wish they offered a version with the Motor Smart with just the smaller focus knob. Just wondering if the focus has been fine with the Motor Smart Mini with the dual fisheye lens. Thanks, again.

    • @vrfrir
      @vrfrir  6 місяців тому

      It's been working perfectly fine, I will say that one thing I do like about the upgraded model is that it seems you can power via usb c, which this model does not support. That may not be something everyone is interested, but I like the option of being able to do that since their batteries are so proprietary.

    Awesome! Thanks for sharing! Any tips on using on the gimbal and setup for manual override? How long does the battery last? Thanks again

    • @vrfrir
      @vrfrir  7 місяців тому +1

      Thanks! Gimbal you just have to make sure you have enough vertical clearance. I don't typically use this system with a gimbal though, I prefer to use the moza extending slypod to move the camera back and forth from the main subject. When I do use a gimbal it's also with a flycam vest and arm combo so it's a whole bulky setup for very specific shoots. You can override but I don't recommend it unless you have a really good way to monitor the focus, it's really hard to nail the focus on the fly with VR specially if you are moving around with a gimbal but it's doable. I've shot with these for over an hour straight and the battery still has juice left, they should last a couple of hours at least, supposedly they can last up to 8 hours but that of course depends on use and other typical battery factors. Hope this helps.

      @@vrfrir thanks. Have you shot anything more using this setup of the LiDAR? How practical has it been? Especially since most stuff is stationary. Anything posted online using this outside of the cool office shots?

    • @vrfrir
      @vrfrir  7 місяців тому +1

      @floripilsl2671 Anytime! I have but it really depends what you will be shooting, I have a few kids so it's been perfect for family shoots because nobody can stand still for more than 2 seconds lol what I really enjoy about it also is that I can really use this lens opened all the way at f2.8 instead of f4 or f5.6 and have to raise up my iso or use more lights. If you don't shoot with moving subjects or if you don't move and mainly shoot all static scenes then you may not find as many use cases.

    • @floripilsl2671
      @floripilsl2671 7 місяців тому

      @@vrfrir thank you! How does it feel in the headset when viewing? I agree with you that with fast moving subjects. This would be a great way to get focus on them. I am still in the process of building up my kit, that’s why I’m asking so many questions. I like the idea of what you’ve done. So most of the stuff you’ve done is either on the moza monopod or just static tripod, correct? I have done some stuff on gimbal, but it only works if I have a reference that moves same as me, I am one of those people who easily gets sick
      Again, I appreciate your answers and the time to do that

    • @vrfrir
      @vrfrir  7 місяців тому

      @floripilsl2671 sure thing, yes I usually prefer to use the moza more than anything but if I need to move around I have to usually go full setup with the vest and arm and gimbal. I'm going to be recording a grand opening of an exhibit in a few months with the full setup. I'm pretty good with motion but if the horizontal leveling is wonky it can also get me pretty quick lol the trick for me is to move at a slow pace left and right, regardless of my subjects speed, I also like to combine movements of me stepping back while o turn left and right in order to minimize the amount I have to turn altogether and then simply walk forward again to get up close if necessary, if that makes sense. I trade off some left and right movement by stepping back to get a wider shot and turn less before I lock in again towards my new desired location before I move up again.

    you use VR glasses as an external monitor, then the question is, is it possible to connect VR glasses to display not a 3D image, but a regular two-dimensional image on the VR glasses?

    • @vrfrir
      @vrfrir  Рік тому

      Those are not actually VR glasses, they are only displaying a 2 dimensional image on my eyes. It's showing me a large flat 2D version of the camera view, same thing I would see if I connect the camera to an external monitor.

      Ah so if I used an HD Zero Goggles and that converter I would see the same.. interesting... thatbwould save me money, something I never thought about.
      Would be nice to add this gear to my Polar Pro Pivot rig.. I think there will be a massive market for 3D content as Apple are intending to concentrate on there VR gear due to thete already massive market share of devices.

    • @vrfrir
      @vrfrir  Рік тому +1

      @MichaelRyannz not sure about those glasses but if they have a standard HDMI input they should work. That adapter is needed for these glasses because they do not have a battery and so the adapter not only converts the hdmi from the camera I to usb c but they also provide the necessary power to the glasses and last 2-3 hours. If your glasses use a battery or have a separate power source you may not need the adapter you would only need a cable from the micro hdmi output of this camera to whatever input your glasses takes.

      @vrfrir  11 місяців тому

      Thank you! I love this Canon VR system, no regrets on it or this Lidar system either. I've seen the little Canon concept VR camera they recently showed off, that does 180 and 360, you mean that one or something else? That little concept camera looks great but I doubt it will have better specs than this system. I am excited to see its specs and price point, it should be another great entry camera that will probably be way better than the old Evo camera that never got an upgrade by insta360.

    • @tongiuqep
      @tongiuqep 11 місяців тому

      @@vrfrir That's the one I think. I don't doubt that it's inferior. I just figured it would be a good entry point before I committed to (presumably) much higher costs with this system. I would just be buying for personal use (documenting my kids while still young, etc.), and the system you have is a significant investment (I'm guessing with storage cards and permanent storage as well). I'm also considering experimenting with such a camera on an FPV drone (cinewhoop or similar) and accidentally smashing a cheaper system would be much less painful. Anyway...again...awesome video regardless. The focus issue was really holding me back and this solves it.

    • @vrfrir
      @vrfrir  11 місяців тому

      @@tongiuqep oh absolutely, I think that new canon camera, if priced well by canon, will be a great entry level camera. We can only guess what price Canon will have on that but I'm guessing probably in the 1.5 to 2k range, but if it ends up being less than that I might even consider getting one just to play around with. Not sure if you have also looked into another entry level camera that recently came out from a crowdfunding site and has actually already made it to consumers, its called CALF. Plenty of videos on yourtube, it looks like another good entry level system. I almost pulled the trigger on it but I had to hold back since I already have the canon system. Check it out if you can.

    Wow! Does this work with the R5 instead of R5C?

    • @vrfrir
      @vrfrir  8 місяців тому +1

      In theory it should work with any camera really, what you need to make sure is that you get a cage that will give you plenty of mounting options so you can install the lidar close enough to the lens. This particular cage I'm using has a bit of a large forehead that stick out towards the front and because the focus ring of the lens is so close to the body of the camera I don't get a full grip of it but it's still good enough to control the ring. Ideally you want a cage that doesn't have any forehead to it that sticks out past the front of the top of the camera. Hope this helps
