At last, an Aussie talking about hardwood. It's hard to find information about axes and chainsaws that applies to our hardwood. The internet is flooded with yanks and their wood, which is fine, but it's just not useful to me... so thanks... subbed!
I have never seen a axe here in Australia that had the right angle. I have 30 mauls and splitting axes and the only one that was ground correctly was 2.7kg Estwing from America it had a 30° grounded edge. Even our own brand Cyclone needed to be reprofiled to the correct angles.
Good video. I've used various splitting mauls over the years (had to reprofile most of them for our hardwoods also) but find I prefer a splitting axe. Currently using a Council Tools 5 pound with a 28" handle that I really like. The overstrike guard on these Stihl mauls and axes are nice to have, I have a leather one on mine but it tends to ride up the handle.
I just got the Husqvarna s2800 splitting axe it has 22° main wedge and 25° bevel on edge. At 700mm long bit small for me. I like 800mm long. It works ok but I like the Stihl splitting axe better. At least with the Husqvarna S2800 no need to reprofile bevel edge they got it right like Fiskars

Winner. Had the same issue with a cheapo block splitter. Beveled the edge down with a flap disc, bobs ya auntie
Yes Ozzie hard or any hardwood will split better around 45° Bevelled edge

@@ChainsawUsers Just reprofiled my Husky and it became about 50% more efficient.
