  • In this video we explain the process of coloring or pigmenting translucent silicone to achieve life-like flesh tones. To do this we use a combination of silicone pigment and flocking mixed with translucent silicone.

I can’t wait to get the new pigments! Your videos are so helpful. And the flocking is a MUST HAVE!

If you're looking for ideas for more videos, I'd love to see some examples of mixing Asian or darker skin tones?

Until BITY gets around to making that video, you may find this short one by Emerge Prosthetics interesting: ua-cam.com/video/jxl6bjTxe34/v-deo.html

I have found the videos on mixing flesh tones very helpful. I am not a very artistically inclined individual, and I sometimes find starting ratios to be helpful (e.g. .4 grams XYZ pigment to 100 grams of Silicone). Including some information like that is helpful to a small portion of us that are wired differently.
Also, the most useful piece of advice (to me) from another video was match the base tone to the underside of an arm. It really helped me see the small differences the colorants made!

I am a novice full silicone doll painter. Do you suggest I use the SAM for my paint or use the A & B?

Exceptionally helpful, as always. This is why I won’t take my business elsewhere except in an emergency. (At which point I need to zoom to the local store, haha.)
Do you have any tips on correctly using a durometer? I want to fill some gouges in a damaged baby doll that I got for dirt cheap, but I want the silicone to match the texture so it’s not like…really weird. So I ordered a durometer, but I’ve never actually used one before.

Thanks! A durometer is pretty straight forward: you just press the tip into a given rubber surface until the base if the instrument is flush with the rubber surface. ua-cam.com/video/kKyeFFytypI/v-deo.htmlsi=LNF2ZL5nO2qzvgO8

Question. I have "heard" but never experimented with it, so I am wondering if you have experienced this. Have you seen the flocking settle to the lowest point in the mold using silicones that have a longer pot life and cure time, especially in larger batch runs (1 Gallon or more of mixed silicone)? I want to start using flocking in my silicone mask pours, but I dont want to potentially waste a gallon or more just test it out. Any input or thoughts would be helpful, thank you.

I have not seen that happen unless the flocking was in part A or B and unmixed.

Dude, shouldn’t you rename your “flesh” color in this day and age? Not all flesh is Caucasian. Other than that, great video.

Our "Flesh" color is part of our original line of standard silicone pigments. We retained the name to avoid confusion for those who have been purchasing this color for the last 19 years.

All skin has the same base colors. Yes, obviously some are heavily pigmented and others seem to be completely lacking. Their "flesh" coloring product is just a base. Its up to you how light or dark you want it to be. Think of it as a canvas when you paint. You want to start with a light canvas to be able to get the outcome you're trying to achieve. It's far easier to darken something than it is to lighten it up. There's an airbrushing video on UA-cam that illustrates how to achieve any skin tone from the one color. Depending on what values you ad and how you saturated or desaturate the color, you can get the exact skin tone you're looking for. So, once again, it just a base color. They're not being racist or prejudice if that's what you're getting at..
