I am looking at doing my first section hike this summer and this is by far the most straight forward non-gear snobby vid I have come across. Thanks for taking the time and energy to make the vid. Subbed
@Weird Science i prefer one to eat out of [unless i can cook it in the pouch like oatmeal and knorr sides] and one to drink my coffee out of after i boiled some water :D i agree. two pots
@@numbereightyseven That's hilarious. Have you traveled extensively here in the US? Actually one would need to live here for an extended period of time, and also travel extensively here to have much of an opinion on the level of "worldly" education we have.
Thinking of getting almost the exact same setup but I will be using a Trangia burner. Thanks for showing the nesting capabilities of the 2 cups and the bowl :)
Well done! Also the Toakes 550ml will fit inside of the Toakes "Light"700ml pot with the long handles. With the fuel canister inside the 550 the lid on the 700 won't fit in top though. Could go on the bottom of the stuff sack though. My current setup is the Toakes 750ml pot, BRS stove, MSR mini piezo igniter, 24"x12" Wildhorn Outfitters hand towel, Sea to Summit collapsible mug ( fits perfectly inside the 750ml pot) and a 4 oz fuel canister. ALSO I made a slide on coozy or if Reflectix for the 750 to insulate it when using it as a mug and it works awesome. It all fits inside the the stuff sack that came with the 750ml pot!
I was initially annoyed by the length of time you were taking until about six minutes in. All I can say is GENIUS! Great combination, man. You must be a Tetris champ, lol. Thanks for the video.
Tuba, after my hike this weekend I think I can get by with just the 550ml pot and no bowl. I just have to do 2 burns on the stove for coffee and a meal. I know you like to actually COOK though. I'm lazy. :)
Great video. I was using a Toaks 1100ml pot and pan with a 450ml cup nesting with a bottle. After watching your video, ordered the two bowls, which nest perfectly, and the 550ml pot. It's the most versatile setup ever. I can take it all if wife and kid join me, or leave the bowls and 1100ml pot at home if going solo. Haven't received it yet, but looking forward to try it out. Toaks really nailed it with their diameters available. 👍
I've received what I missed to make this set now. It's perfect. Just a heads up though, adding the 100mm will fits with this set, but the 550ml pot and the 100mm diameter bowl is a VERY tight fit. The bowl gets scratched with the folded handles of the pot taking it in and out. I wish the 100mm bowl was just a tiny bit wider. If instead of 100mm it was 102, it'd be no issue.
I am glad I stumbled across this. Since I am only reheating freeze dried I think I can get away with just the 550ml pot. 475ml to rehydrate with. While waiting for the meal to cook I can heat up more water for my coffee. Everything with one pot, I like it.
Your setup seems very good to me, though for my personal needs I tend to want something like soup for dinner. I would end up with a larger pot/bowl, like maybe an MSR Seagull (stainless steel and heavy). Still for your purposes, it looks like the choices you made are very good. Thanks for showing us all the video and telling us the logic behind it.
robert childers soup only need a 1.3L msr size pot its just tall enough to prevent boiling over. Holds 2 cups of water for the soup then just eat out of the pot. No mug needed no bowl.
I've been looking to shave unnecessary weight and bulkiness from my pack, and this just tickles the nesting bug in me. I bought a standard mess kit when I started backpacking last year, but this is much more effective and efficient. Thank you for this sweet little setup!
I did something similar but I got the 1000ml pot with a frying pan. Not sure how practical the pan is but I like having a bigger pot for when I'm not soloing. I also got the 550ml cup for day hikes or super minimalist trips with an alcohol stove. The like the customizability of the kit. Great video!
I love seeing what people come up as personal solutions, especially when they share and others don't have to reinvent the wheel. Because I Moto camp, and have a fairly small budget, this doesn't apply to me, but it may be JUST the solution for someone else. Thanks for taking the time to put this together.
I have been looking for a little cook kit and that sweet combo fits the bill perfectly! So glad I watched your video. Seems like all the other combos were close enough but lacked something, price, size, quality, materials -- something just fell short with them. Not with that one, PERFECT! ♥️♥️♥️ it. 👍.
Love the setup. Wonder if there is another alternative for a mug than the 550, kinda on a budget and not trying to spend 60-70 bucks just on some pots 😭 let me know if there are any ideas!
Wow!! I have been planning to buy a toaks pot but man oh man I love what you've done here! What a great cook kit you've got there! I will definitely be doing this! Thank you for sharing!
Love the videos! Simple, to the point, well made. I'm putting together a cook kit based on your video with the Stanly cook pot. Thanks for the inspiration!
I love the GSI pot lifter. I ditched the extra bowls/pots for a cozy lined with a ziplock to use as a bowl. The total weight of my cook kit is 2.9 ounces/83 grams ...... 700ml Heine Pot, lid, windscreen, stove, spoon, cozy, pot lifter, and stuff sack.
I kind of wish I could find that nesting mug or something similar on its own to use with the less expensive titanium pot I got on AlliExpress. You can find regular sizes of titanium pots for half the price there, many of which seem to be the same design as Toaks but labeled differently. They've worked fine for me so far. The brand I've gotten was Tomshoo, I believe, but they kind of rotate the generic brands so don't necessarily just look for that specific brand. They do have titanium bowls on there, but the edges seem to round in, so that inhibits the ability to nest inside it cleanly. Also, a lot of people seem to like the idea of that BRS stove. All I can say is that I ordered one, it worked for only about 2 minutes, and never fired up again. I'm sure it was just a lemon, but once you start questioning the quality control of a product, you begin to be afraid that you might end up eating dry ramen at 14000 feet, so I went with the MRS PocketRocket2 to be on the safe side, even though it's about 2.5x the weight. So, you win some, you lose some, when it comes to trying to get by on the cheap. I've definitely developed a sense of where you can scrimp and where you have to spend over the past year or so. And combined with what I had previously, I've got about 3 complete camp set-ups now, of various weights! Just what a single guy needs. :D
It appears that hikers are always looking to lighten and improve there cooking system , including myself. You have a really nice complete system for yourself. I tend to go a lot more bare bones with a single pot and use alcohol as a fuel. A few days ago I lucked out and found a new 3.2 oz Toaks outdoor 700 Titanium Wide Mouth Pot with the lid on sale for $18.50. I plan on using it with a 1.2 oz Evernew Titanium burner and a .5 oz Evernew X stand. The pot was just to good of a deal to pass up.
looking forward to watching your review of that stove. I went pocket rocket 2 years sgo, was amazed by the size n weight reduction, this drops it even MORE! if the stove is decent. ..
This is a cook kit I might put together myself. Must admit though, I've got the Snow Peak Solo version 2.0, and they made some big improvements to it. *Edit:* Unfortunately for anyone wishing to put together the very same cook kit as shown, Toaks has already discontinued both sizes of their bowls.
@iPac9mm Same handles. However, Toaks did add a long folding handles variation of their 900ml pot to their line-up. They currently sell both. I did end up making a similar set-up to the one shown in the video. (And I wish I had gotten the new variation of the 900ml pot instead of the older one.) With a few changes though. Since the bowls were discontinued, I bought a small Ti pan/lid with folding handle from Toaks designed to fit their 900ml pot. The pan/lid can also be used as a small bowl. That did cause the height of the cook-kit to increase. However, the increased room inside allowed me to put in everything I wanted. Namely all the same contents our host put into his modified Stanley cook-kit from a different video. I'll be showcasing my variation (along with giving credit where it's due) on my UA-cam channel in the near future.
TheGoatMumbler Here in AZ 🌵during a no burn alert, you may cook with a stove that has an ON/OFF valve. An alcohol stove would not be compliant during the summer dry season. Just saying.
A sweet kit:) I've been using the heavier jetboil and traded its weight against the fab fuel economy. Toaks are a great product. I recently traded in my Sea To Summit Mug (like yours) for a large Toaks mug and have not looked back:) I'd def consider your system for longer hikes. Nice work. Love all the creative solutions out there!
I can appreciate how much trial and error it probably took to fuss with different products to get the nesting just right for this setup. Good work. You missed a perfect opportunity to have Mr. Bill carry the old setup and have his arm tear off because of the weight. ;)
Like many folks looking at Cook light weight sets, the function is a priority, but so is the total price. In the future, if you could itemize the prices of things, it will enlighten folks to the affordability of the total set. Thks.
Awesome video. Thank you for posting it! Just ordered the exact same Toaks setup but can't seem to find the appropriate sized ranger bands. Would you mind sharing w/ us where you got yours?? And what the diameter and width of the one in the video is?
Nice, I would stick the bic in the gsi pot grabber so it would ho under the canister. I am running at 13.2 oz with the gsi halulite minimalist. 4 oz fuel, mini bic, pot grabber, silicone sleeve, msr pocket rocket, spork, lid, 2 x 2 scotchbrite. 3 cups total, 24 fluid oz.
It’s so satisfying to see everything in one tidy little set up like that. I have a similar setup and found the pot gripper fits nicely in the groove at the bottom of the fuel canister. The magnet holds it there so it stays in place. And it may even fit with the lighter as well?
Lolololol bass ackwards....my dad used to say that all the time...hadn’t heard anyone else say that! It’s great! Thanks for sharing and making me lol literally:)
Great kit I am working something up at the moment to include a kovea spider, I have to have a floor reflector and windshield as well so working on that at the moment.
perfect stocking~!! i used Esbit 750ml pot with smallest gas canister + BRS stove (same) + folding spoon. if i change pots..I'll follow your way. thank you!!
Ha ha, you said bass ackward, like my dad used to. And pretty slick kit, I wish I bought the Toaks 550 ml instead of the 750, then I could have added the 900 and have the same kit.
I think the 550 will stack that all a little tighter if you put the canister in upside down...??? I'm trying to arrive at something very similar, thank you for the video:) very helpful
I use a MSR seagull pot (Titanium) + lid, can hold 700 ml at most, normally fill to 500, a plastic breakfast pot(sistema lunch) weighs 4, cleaning grams, Optimus wind Guard for stove, Optimus (crux) folding stove, cleaning sponge and a BIC standby lighter, which all fit together. Light and all easy clean, pot seldom gets dirtied.
I saw on another video where the guy put the fuel canister in upside down due to the way the pot bottom was shaped. He gained about 3/4 inch clearance that way! Just an idea!
All good background information...but how does it cook and clean up? How do the small dimensions work when stirring a stew or making a batter? How evenly does titanium spread heat? Or is this type of kit more for the hiker/camper who is satisfied with minimal breakfasts and a quick start or a quick meal before bedtime? Maybe that is for another video!
I didn't hear you mention this but may have missed it. If you haven't already tried, place your fuel canister in upside down, you gain a lot more room up top.
Do you know which 900 and 550 you bought? They show two different shapes for each of these sizes. Also they don’t list a bowl like the one in the video...., thank you for showing us the setup
Thanks for this video...this ended up being the 3 pots I bought except I have to figure out what to do with the extra lid and I want a pocket rocket which won't fit
Maybe for a 550 setup you can have smaller fuel canister and buy a connector to transfer the gas from the cheaper butane bottle (depending on the temperature though) that should still allow you to close the lid properly
I think Mr. Bill likes it. Let's see if we can make a cook kit out of this heavy cast iron pan and lid. Oops! It slipped. Watch out Mr. Bill "Oh no!" Millennials will have absolutely no clue what I'm talking about. 😉
Thanks! I've have been looking at different videos. I wish to have a little bit bigger than the Toaks 750 ml pot and this 900 looks right. I will make the switch from original Pocket Rocket if it won't fit. Am interested in adding a fry pan. This is because I try to stay out of motels and wash up in creeks and all or just pay for showers in town and go back out. On CDT, especially in CO where they are real expensive. I know If I go out to camp and have say a steak or something for a zero I can do it. Otherwise . . . i am on a pity party and get a motel. So a fry pan (titanium) as well as a little bigger pot would help as I could have some comfort food and still stay light. Thanks for the info. I am returning from section hiking CDT to do a full thru hike and will start, Lord willing, in April of 2023. Thanks again. -White Mexican
i like how your cooking system is all consolidated. I have crap all over because i dont have a system like this but this makes me want to change things up. Personally i think less is more for me im good with just one cooking cup. I like the heavy cover canteen mess kit. 700ml cup with cover and 1.1L canteen. But it doesnt hold all i meed to cook.
Great setup there. I'd like to know what size ranger band you're using. I need some to hold some of my bowls together and that looks like about the size I'd need.
Thrifty Survivor : Go to a bicycle shop and ask them for an old mountain bike tube (bigger is better - if you can get a 'fat-bike' tube they are huge, but a little less common). Cut it into dozens of ranger bands - for free! They'd usually just throw the tube in the trash. Take a six-pack of beer into the shop every week and you can get an unlimited supply of old tubes (ranger bands) for free! I'm thrifty too, and a bicycle mechanic.
I'm really amazed how this stuffs come together. I want this kit for my next hiking in Oregon. Could you please tell me where to find this stuffs? I know this sold separately. But I want the links or anything that I can lead me to order them.
Nice man! Do you think this setup would work to serve 2 people? Basically heating up water at night for freeze dried meals for two (eating right out of the package) and then having a cup of coffee per person in the morning..? Wondering if these are too big for drinking coffee
Hey, great kit! About to put togheter my first kitchen, what size is that gas cannister? 230 gram? Would be great if you could list all the items in the kit :). Thanks
Nice kit. Do you find that wind is an issue? A compact wind shield (or thick piece of foil at least) can make a huge difference, speeding up cook time and saving gas.

I like the set up. I use a jetboil but it's a bit clunky at times. I'm just starting out though.
Still using it? Or changed?
Totally copied this after watching your video. Right down to the hot lips. Great stuff. Thank you for sharing.
I kind of wish I could find that nesting mug or something similar on its own to use with the less expensive titanium pot I got on AlliExpress. *Edit:* Unfortunately for anyone wishing to put together the very same cook kit as shown, Toaks has already discontinued both sizes of their bowls.
@iPac9mm
Same handles.
I'll be showcasing my variation (along with giving credit where it's due) on my UA-cam channel in the near future.

this is exactly what I was looking for. I can't seem to find the bowl anymore though
Yeah I been looking for that bowl too
Agree. Can't find bowl anymore (October 2022)

Greetings from Alabama. Nice work! 😁
This was incredibly helpful! I do have a question though, what size of fuel canister is it that you show in this video?
It is a 110g fuel canister.
Pretty nice work. That´s a nice and light kit.
I think the 550 will stack that all a little tighter if you put the canister in upside down...??? I'm trying to arrive at something very similar, thank you for the video:) very helpful
Since the 106mm bowls are discontinued, what do you recommend as a substitute for the Toaks 106mm bowl?
I used the Toaks BWL-550-D103 bowl.
I love your videos! So informative and helpful!

I’ve been using the ponytail bands for stuff like this
Very nice setup! I want to experiment with a home-made stove from an old coffee can....
Thats a nice little set up there.
I saw on another video where the guy put the fuel canister in upside down due to the way the pot bottom was shaped. He gained about 3/4 inch clearance that way! Just an idea!
Viola! That's the way to go...nice!
very well put together cook set and very nice...Great content
Great kit! Any idea if you can fit a PocketRocket Deluxe or Soto WIndmaster in that kit?
All good background information...but how does it cook and clean up? How do the small dimensions work when stirring a stew or making a batter? How evenly does titanium spread heat? Or is this type of kit more for the hiker/camper who is satisfied with minimal breakfasts and a quick start or a quick meal before bedtime? Maybe that is for another video!
If you're making stew, pancakes, etc you may want to investigate some of the larger cook kits that are coated.
Nice kit fella!
No, I'm Mister Bill :-) Great little video!
Nice setup!
The empty fuel canister seems like useless excess weight though 👀
im sure it was for demonstration purposes .... duh
Beautiful... you've got me sold!
I think Mr. Bill likes it. Let's see if we can make a cook kit out of this heavy cast iron pan and lid. Oops! It slipped. Watch out Mr. Bill
"Oh no!"
Millennials will have absolutely no clue what I'm talking about. 😉
LMAO
I'm sure Mr Bill has a facebook page, so they can look him up. Lol
Older millennials do.
The pot grabber will stick to the bottom of your canister, works good.
PERFECT little set up!!!
Let me see if I can fit everything together that I just took apart.
Great but do you need three bowls for one person?
Great video. You covered everything perfectly. Thank you
i like how your cooking system is all consolidated. I have crap all over because i dont have a system like this but this makes me want to change things up. Personally i think less is more for me im good with just one cooking cup. I like the heavy cover canteen mess kit. 700ml cup with cover and 1.1L canteen. But it doesnt hold all i meed to cook.
Thank you for the video. I appreciate the info.
Very helpful video. Thanks for the ideas. 😊
@@nathansharp3193 GREAT TIP!!
Impressed yet so simple. Thanks for sharing, sub'd after watching a few of your vids.
You're welcome.
Wow I was looking at a toks cook ware. Being a jetboil owner for awhile I’ve wanted to streamline my setup. Thanks for showing this.
I'm really amazed how this stuffs come together. I want this kit for my next hiking in Oregon. Could you please tell me where to find this stuffs? I know this sold separately. But I want the links or anything that I can lead me to order them.
I need this exact same setup but so need mine to nest a 230g fuel canister. I cant seem to find a proper setup for that
solid! I'm go after it. thank you!
Nice man! Do you think this setup would work to serve 2 people? Basically heating up water at night for freeze dried meals for two (eating right out of the package) and then having a cup of coffee per person in the morning..? Wondering if these are too big for drinking coffee
Yes, but you'd have to do a couple separate boils as most meals need 2 cups of water.
Hey, great kit! About to put togheter my first kitchen, what size is that gas cannister? 230 gram? Would be great if you could list all the items in the kit :). Thanks
110g fuel canister
Nice kit. Do you find that wind is an issue? A compact wind shield (or thick piece of foil at least) can make a huge difference, speeding up cook time and saving gas.
Wakuah Outdoors perhaps replace or wrap foil around the towel as well so it too sits inside ?
I wonder where you get that rubber grip thing to handle hot pot? I couldn't find anywhere
